The tiers follow the current PvE rankings and change with each class tuning pass.

Affliction Warlock sits alone at the top of the MoP Classic DPS tier list for Phase 5, with the rest of the field spread across the tiers below it. This ranking reflects Siege of Orgrimmar progression and reclearing, where throughput matters more than utility and the raid is assumed to have appropriate item level. Every spec here can clear all Phase 5 content, though lower-ranked picks make it harder.

DPS Tier List for Tier 16 (Phase 5 of MoP Classic)

Tier

Specs

S

Affliction Warlock (up from A)

A

Balance Druid (up from B), Feral Druid (up from C), Arcane Mage, Fire Mage (down from S), Windwalker Monk (up from B), Combat Rogue (up from C), Demonology Warlock, Fury Warrior (up from C)

B

Beast Mastery Hunter (down from S), Survival Hunter (down from S), Retribution Paladin, Shadow Priest, Assassination Rogue (down from A), Subtlety Rogue, Elemental Shaman (down from A), Enhancement Shaman (down from A), Destruction Warlock (down from S), Arms Warrior (down from A)

C

Frost Death Knight (down from A), Unholy Death Knight (down from S), Marksmanship Hunter, Frost Mage

S Tier

The single spec in this tier combines top-tier single-target damage with the best multi-target scaling in the game.

Affliction Warlock

Affliction Warlock had a rough start but has come into its own by scaling extremely well with gear. When it uses Soul Swap to spread dots onto several targets, its damage becomes unmatched, and Siege of Orgrimmar contains numerous encounters where this is effective, for example The Fallen Protectors and Kor'kron Dark Shamans. Even on fights where cleave is not valuable, it can extend snapshotted dots from effects like Bloodlust, Unerring Vision of Lei Shen and Sinister Primal Diamond by Soul Swapping non-boss targets. It brings little utility, so a 25-man raid already running three or four Warlocks is better off bringing another class.

A Tier

These specs see heavy representation, and several of them are the best in the game at a specific job.

Demonology Warlock

Demonology Warlock has powerful burst and excels where the raid wants strong single-target throughput with short bursts of cleave. It has become more of a niche pick because of how strong Affliction is.

Windwalker Monk

Windwalker Monk has unparalleled cleave damage through Rushing Jade Wind and Storm, Earth, and Fire clones. It lacks utility compared to other classes, though at this stage of the phase that is not necessarily an issue for most raids. The spec was boosted by a mastery buff in Phase 3 and the introduction of Rune of Re-Origination, which supercharged its throughput.

Feral Druid

Feral Druid is a single-target throughput machine when it can keep enough uptime on the boss as a melee. It brings utility similar to Balance Druid but earns its high placement purely through throughput despite limited raid utility.

Balance Druid

Balance Druid has incredible output and can cleave without losing much damage on its main target. Its toolkit includes Stampeding Roar and Heart of the Wild, Tranquility for raid healing, and Bear Form as a safety option. Throughput remains very high in Siege of Orgrimmar and it should scale well with gear.

Fire Mage

Fire Mage is very dependent on gear, and as the raid approaches full best-in-slot and high crit levels it can perform extremely well. The spec is prone to RNG, with large throughput swings depending on how crits and cooldowns line up. It synergizes with Warriors' Skull Banner, and Sinister Primal Diamond further amplifies its burst window.

Fury Warrior

Fury Warrior has cemented itself as the go-to Warrior spec because it scales much better with gear, leaving Arms Warrior a tier below. Warriors bring Skull Banner, Rallying Cry, Demoralizing Banner and Vigilance, and can use Die by the Sword to cheese mechanics or enable solo-tanking strategies. Skull Banner's value comes from stacking it with the raid's cooldowns during the Bloodlust window, so its utility drops off after the third back-to-back use. Rallying Cry is a raid-wide defensive cooldown that grants all party and raid members 20% increased maximum health for 10 seconds.

Arcane Mage

Arcane Mage has solidified itself as a standout pick, especially as kill times shorten and stat budgets grow. It has been through several buffs and nerfs across Mists of Pandaria Classic but remains solid in Siege of Orgrimmar at both low and high item levels.

Combat Rogue

Combat Rogue brings solid throughput plus utility from Smoke Bomb and Tricks of the Trade, and handles incoming raid damage well thanks to Feint. Rogues are highly valuable on the tier's hardest bosses, Siegecrafter, Paragons of the Klaxxi and Garrosh. Combat stands out among the Rogue specs, particularly once players get Assurance of Consequence. Its stat priority favors weapon damage and Agility, then Haste and Mastery, with Hit and Expertise capped at 7.5% and Critical Strike taking a back seat.

B Tier

These specs are not bad to bring, but they are not the ones you prioritize when building a roster for throughput or utility.

Retribution Paladin

Retribution Paladin is essentially the mirror of Arms Warrior, trading offensive utility for strictly defensive tools: double Hand of Sacrifice and Hand of Protection via Clemency, plus Devotion Aura for raid magic-damage reduction. It is one of the best single-target burst damage dealers in the game but lacks good cleave. It received several buffs going into Phase 3, and Devotion Aura and Hand of Sacrifice stay valuable during Siege of Orgrimmar progression.

Beast Mastery Hunter

Beast Mastery Hunter sits on the lower end of the damage spectrum but earns its place through progression strength. It deals damage well while handling mechanics, and Misdirection has several powerful uses. Its passive cleave is very strong in this raid.

Arms Warrior

Arms Warrior is an excellent pick for AoE and cleave, with Sweeping Strikes letting it always cleave extra targets and Thunder Clap applying Deep Wounds to all targets hit. Its banners, Skull Banner and Demoralizing Banner, provide the bulk of its utility, and Vigilance is one of the most powerful tank externals in the expansion. Skull Banner gives the whole raid 20% bonus critical damage on a 3-minute cooldown and does not stack, so multiple Warriors should agree on an order. Charge no longer requires a minimum distance indoors, making Glyph of Bull Rush the strongest glyph choice.

Enhancement Shaman

Enhancement Shaman is a great alternative thanks to offensive raid utility from Stormlash Totem and defensive utility from Ancestral Guidance. Its throughput may be slightly lower than other specs in this tier, but the utility makes up for it.

Elemental Shaman

Elemental Shaman is a strong utility pick for Stormlash Totem, with Ancestral Guidance adding defensive value. It can swap into Restoration easily when needed. During progression it brings burst AoE for mechanics such as Crawler Mine on Siegecrafter Blackfuse, but its single-target throughput is not the strongest, so stacking several is not advised.

Shadow Priest

Shadow Priest brings Mass Dispel, which is situationally necessary, along with Vampiric Embrace and Divine Star for utility. Its damage is quite low, though it can compete with most classes when played well. Dispersion also lets it soak mechanics.

Destruction Warlock

Destruction Warlock has been the main single-target Warlock spec and can deal outrageous single-target damage when funneling while using Rain of Fire on adds. It gains the least value from Sinister Primal Diamond of the three Warlock specs and will likely take a backseat to them. It remains a potent spec that can be played at the highest levels.

Subtlety Rogue

Subtlety Rogue brings solid throughput plus Smoke Bomb and Tricks of the Trade, and deals with incoming raid damage well through Feint. Rogues are highly valuable on Siegecrafter, Paragons of the Klaxxi and Garrosh, the tier's hardest bosses.

Assassination Rogue

Assassination Rogue offers solid throughput with the same Smoke Bomb and Tricks of the Trade utility, and Feint helps it survive raid damage. It remains an important part of the roster for the tier's hardest encounters.

Survival Hunter

Survival Hunter is on the lower end of the damage spectrum but is placed here for its progression strength. It deals damage while handling mechanics, Misdirection has powerful use-cases, and its passive cleave is very strong in Siege of Orgrimmar.

C Tier

These are currently the worst-performing specs, though the gap to the tiers above is small compared to past expansions.

Frost Death Knight

Frost Death Knight has fallen further behind since the launch of Phase 1 because it scales poorly with gear. It has niche use where heavy cleave is valued. It brings the same utility as its Unholy counterpart.

Unholy Death Knight

Unholy Death Knight deals a lot of damage without needing gear scaling and performs extremely well where execute damage matters, thanks to Soul Reaper. Anti-Magic Zone has been lackluster due to its short duration but finds much more use in Siege of Orgrimmar, particularly on Garrosh Hellscream. Gorefiend's Grasp is great but loses value quickly once a second Death Knight is in the raid.

Marksmanship Hunter

Marksmanship Hunter performs similarly to the other Hunter specs in offensive throughput. It is punished by movement and requires much more effort to use its full kit, which drops it a tier during progression.

Frost Mage

Frost Mage had a strong start to the expansion but has taken a backseat to the other two Mage specs because its throughput is lower and it brings no unique utility. Recent buffs of roughly 10% make it more attractive, especially at lower gear levels, but it falls off near best-in-slot.

Biggest Changes in Phase 5

The Phase 5 tier list was revised on August 17, 2026, moving Demonology Warlock, Windwalker Monk, Feral Druid, Fire Mage and Combat Rogue up into the A tier. Beast Mastery Hunter, Survival Hunter, Elemental Shaman, Enhancement Shaman, Arms Warrior and Shadow Priest dropped to the B tier, while Unholy Death Knight and Marksmanship Hunter fell to the C tier. Earlier in the phase, the June 2, 2026 Siege of Orgrimmar progression update had already moved several specs down and pushed Shadow Priest, Beast Mastery Hunter and Survival Hunter up. The list is skewed toward progression power levels and will change as gear improves and content gets easier.

If you want the gear side of that progression handled for you, the MoP Classic Tier 16 Set Boost covers the work of collecting your class set.

The MoP Classic DPS tier list for Phase 5, explaining where each spec stands in Siege of Orgrimmar and what changed this patch.

[5,3
386,385,384
113,115,97
127
post-29195","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-wow-classic","category-all","tag-mists-of-pandaria-5-4","tag-wow-mists-of-pandaria","tag-wow-mop-5-4","author-dina

Affliction Warlock is the only spec in the top tier, and it is the current leading specialization at 602.3k DPS in Heroic Siege of Orgrimmar.
