If after a few weeks you have still been unlucky with gear, you can use crafted gear to improve the item level for that slot, because a max-rank craft with Mistcrests reaches item level 331. Before you spend anything, get your four-piece tier set moving, since the Catalyst Unbound achievement lets you naturally loot Catalyst charges from raids, Mythic+ and Delves once you have your 4-set bonus.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"what-changed-in-season-2-crafting\">What changed in Season 2 crafting<\/h2>\n<p>Midnight Season 2 arrived with Patch 12.1 and introduced some changes to gear acquisition. Crafting sits at the end of that chain rather than the start: you use it to patch holes in a character that is already running Mythic+ and raids, not to skip the early climb.<\/p>\n<p>A crafted piece made with Mistcrests at max rank lands at item level 331. Compare that with what drops around it \u2014 Mythic 0 dungeons drop item level 292 Champion track gear from every boss \u2014 and you can see why a craft is a targeted fix, not a general upgrade path.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"should-you-craft-first-or-chase-tier-set-first\">Should you craft first or chase tier set first?<\/h2>\n<p>Chase the tier set first. Blizzard introduced the Midnight Season 2: Catalyst Unbound achievement, and once you have your 4-set bonus you naturally loot Catalyst charges from raids, Mythic+ and Delves. That means finishing your four-piece early pays you back in charges for the rest of the season.<\/p>\n<p>The practical order is to clear the raid on as many difficulties as you can to pick up tier pieces, then catalyze the slots you are still missing to close out the 4-set. Doing this even on weak gear is worth it, because it starts the extra charges flowing sooner and you regain the charge you spent quickly. Earning Ahead of the Curve, Keystone Master or 1800 rating in PvP grants an additional Catalyst charge.<\/p>\n<p>Only after that does a craft compete for your attention. The order of operations is:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Save your crafting sparks for embellished gear for the first few weeks of the season.<\/li>\n<li>Get your 4-set bonus before spending sparks on filler slots.<\/li>\n<li>Use crafted gear to raise the item level of a slot you have been unlucky in.<\/li>\n<li>Craft at max rank with Mistcrests to hit item level 331.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"embellishments-the-part-that-actually-decides-your-craft\">Embellishments: the part that actually decides your craft<\/h2>\n<p>Embellishments are the extra player power you add to crafted gear, and you can only have two equipped at the same time. That cap is what makes your first craft a real decision: whichever slot you embellish is competing for one of two slots for the rest of the season.<\/p>\n<p>Patch 12.1 added a batch of new embellishments across professions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hunter&#39;s Ritual Stone (Blacksmithing) \u2014 grants secondary stats while doing Prey<\/li>\n<li>Coiled Snake-Eye (Engineering) \u2014 random secondary stat proc, selecting your highest secondary when triggered by a crit<\/li>\n<li>Polished Ammolite (Jewelcrafting) \u2014 random crit proc<\/li>\n<li>Snakeskin Lining (Tailoring) \u2014 random nature damage over time proc<\/li>\n<li>Adorned Fang (Leatherworking) \u2014 haste proc<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To remove an embellishment from crafted gear you buy a Lucky Keychain from the Auction House and recraft the item with it in the Optional Reagents slot. The keychain only works on items where you added the embellishment yourself \u2014 pre-embellished items such as the Loa Worshiper&#39;s Band cannot have it removed. Recrafting this way removes the embellishment and grants +1 Sparkle, which gives no additional power but an extra chance at a special jumping animation. If you only want to swap to a different embellishment on the same item, buy the new one and select it in the optional reagents slot while recrafting, no keychain needed.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"crests-and-materials-you-need\">Crests and materials you need<\/h2>\n<p>Crests are the gate on how high your craft goes. In Season 1 the pattern was 80 crests per craft at the top end, and Season 2 uses Mistcrests for the same job, with crafted gear reaching 331 when made with Mistcrests at max rank. Mythic+ is where those crests come from: keystone level 10 and above rewards Myth track loot in the Great Vault and gives Mythic Mistcrests, and you want key level 12 or above for the maximum Mistcrest award.<\/p>\n<p>Patch 12.1 also added new materials gathered from mining and herbalism: Neutralized Venom Clot from Venom Infused nodes and Cursebound Globe from cursebound nodes. Blacksmithing gained Odious Alloy, crafted from Umbral Tin Ore, Luminant Flux and Refulgent Copper Ingot. Jewelcrafters can refine rank 1 Crystalline Glass and Duskshrouded Stone up to rank 2.<\/p>\n<p>One more thing worth doing early: Patch 12.1 lets you reset your profession knowledge points once per Midnight profession, which unlearns any recipes you unlocked by spending those points.
