You get six starting jobs plus six more unlockable at level 30, but you cannot leave the original zones, trade, use the auction house, or hold more than 100,000 gil. Expired trial accounts are reactivated automatically when the update lands, so an old character becomes playable again without a support ticket.

What changed in the FFXI free trial update

The overhaul came in two parts: the level cap rose from 50 to 75, and backend account changes removed the time limit entirely. The old trial allowed a single character to level 50 with a 14-day limit before a subscription was needed. Producer and director Yoji Fujito said the level-50 cap created a bottleneck at the Shadow Lord mission, where a level 50 character becomes too difficult to beat, and that raising the cap will make the trial "more fun".

How far you can progress without paying

You can level to 75, which restores the progression experience that defines the game for paid users. Six jobs are available from the start, and six more unlock at level 30: Paladin, Beastmaster, Dark Knight, Bard, Ranger, and Summoner. The trial still limits you to base game content only.

FFXI free trial restrictions

You cannot leave the original zones.

You cannot trade.

You cannot use the auction house.

You cannot shout or yell.

Your account cannot hold more than 100,000 gil at any one time.

You can join a party but cannot form one.

You are limited to three trusts at a time.

FFXI free trial download and account requirements

You need a Square Enix Account to play the FFXI free trial, and you are only eligible if you do not already possess a FINAL FANTASY XI account. Log in to your Square Enix Account, select "Select Service" and choose FINAL FANTASY XI, then click the PlayOnline button and enter your free trial registration key to receive a PlayOnline ID and password.

The FFXI free trial is playable only on Windows PC. Download the free trial client, then install the PlayOnline Viewer first and FINAL FANTASY XI second, and launch either "FINAL FANTASY XI.exe" or "PlayOnline.exe".

If you already have a version of the client installed, uninstall all instances of the game including the free trial, then go to C: → Users → [Username] → Documents → My Games and delete or rename the "FINAL FANTASY XIV – A Realm Reborn" folder or any folder containing the game's name.

What the trial does not give you

Trading, running the auction house, and leading a party all require a subscription. If the parts of an MMO you love are trading, market speculation, and player-run social spaces, the trial will hold you back until you subscribe.

The FFXI free trial now has no time limit and a level 75 cap, with six starting jobs, six unlockable jobs, and zone, trade and gil limits.

[93,3
1417,1420,1419,1418
115,97
127
post-41651","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-ffxiv","category-all","tag-ffxi-free-trial","tag-ffxi-free-trial-download","tag-ffxi-free-trial-update","tag-ffxiv","author-dina

Yes.
