To unlock the extra weekly Nebulous Voidcore in Midnight 12.1.5, complete two quests before weekly maintenance during the week of October 6: accept "In the Catalyst's Shadow" from Decimus in Voidstorm, then pick up "Prismatic Potential" from Orin Straylight in Silvermoon City. Turning in "Prismatic Potential" starts Orin's research, and the quest chain only pays off once that research finishes.

The two quests to finish before October 6

Do them in this order:

  1. Accept "In the Catalyst's Shadow" from Decimus in Voidstorm.

  2. Travel to Silvermoon City and pick up "Prismatic Potential" from Orin Straylight.

  3. Complete and turn in both quests before weekly maintenance during the week of October 6.

The order matters because "Prismatic Potential" is only available from Orin in Silvermoon City, and Decimus's quest is the entry point that sends you there. Getting both done early is what puts you ahead of the chain when the mid-season refresh begins.

    What the research timer gates

Turning in "Prismatic Potential" is not the end of the chain — it is the start of a wait. Once it is turned in, Orin can begin his research, and a progress timer appears above his head. You cannot skip this timer; the next quest is only offered after the research completes.

After his research finishes during the week of October 6, Orin offers "Umbral Blessings of the Catalyst". Completing that quest unlocks the ability to trade gold, Voidlight Marl, or Veteran Mistcrests to Orin for one additional Nebulous Voidcore a week. So the two prepatch quests plus the timer are the full gate between you and the extra bonus roll.

What the extra Voidcore actually does

During realm maintenance the week of October 6, Orin Straylight begins offering one additional Nebulous Voidcore a week to bonus roll for additional loot. The Voidcore is a bonus roll currency — the unlock is what lets you spend gold, Voidlight Marl, or Veteran Mistcrests on it each week.

The rest of the Orin chain

The Nebulous Voidcore step is only the first part of Orin's Season 2 mid-season refresh chain, and the later steps run on their own schedule:

    When
Quest
What it unlocks

Realm maintenance, week of October 13
"Ancient Depths, Ancient Venom"
Orin begins research into Ascendant Venomstones

Realm maintenance, week of October 20
"Ascending with Venomstones"
Ascendant Venomstones become obtainable

Ascendant Venomstones drop from every Heroic or Mythic raid boss, Mythic+ Keystone dungeons at +10 and above, Tier 11 Bountiful Delves, and Nightmare Prey Hunt Champion gear chests. Collect 10 of them and use them near the Catalyst in Silvermoon City to raise the item level of a fully upgraded Season 2 Hero, Myth, or maximum-quality Tidal Crafted weapon, trinket, or necklace. The crest cap is lifted the week of October 20 alongside Ascendant Venomstones.

What 12.1.5 brings with the refresh

The mid-season refresh lands with the 12.1.5 content update, which also adds the Labyrinth of Kindo'jan — a nine-chamber, Delve-like challenge with a Tier 11 solo challenge and Mythic gear — and the single-boss raid The Unbinding of Kith'ix, fought with Lady Liadrin at your side across Story Mode, Raid Finder, Normal, Heroic, and Mythic difficulties. Mythic Kith'ix takes a flexible group of 15–25 players. Aqir Invasions run as zone-wide public events in Eversong or Zul'Aman for ten minutes every hour, with six scenario types and eight possible affixes on the combat scenarios. Keystone Myth returns for Season 2 with the "Midnight Keystone Myth: Season 2" achievement at a Mythic+ rating of 3600, rewarding "the Venomous Contender" title and Timelost Saddle.

If you would rather have the character ready for the patch without running the leveling yourself, the Midnight Leveling Boost handles that part of the work.
