Until that routing is fixed, players have reported that mailing to an alt as &quot;Alpha-Beta&quot; worked, that returning misdelivered mail sends it to the correct character, and that missed dungeon loot can arrive through <a href=\"#\" data-wowhead=\"npc=248753&amp;domain=forever\">Steamwheedle Lost and Found<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"why-mail-is-broken-in-the-beta\">Why mail is broken in the beta<\/h2>\n<p>Forever is realm-less and uses first and last names, which means <strong>first names are no longer unique<\/strong> identifiers. In other versions of World of Warcraft, names are unique to a server, so routing mail to a name poses no problems; Forever&#39;s two-name, no-server-tag system broke that routing.<\/p>\n<p>Mail is now delivered based on the recipient&#39;s <strong>first name<\/strong>, regardless of whether that is the correct character. One player tested it by deleting a character and found that all mail they sent went to their warrior, and after deleting that character it went to a different character they had not logged in to.<\/p>\n<p>The failure shows up in three ways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Misdelivery:<\/strong> mail addressed to one alt arrives at another character that shares the first name.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Self-mail block:<\/strong> sending from one shared-first-name character to another is rejected because the game treats it as mail to yourself.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Disappearance:<\/strong> mail sent to alts and friends vanishes, and some players report never receiving items a friend sent to a correctly typed name.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The problem is not limited to alts. Horde players have received mail from the <a href=\"#\" data-wowhead=\"zone=1519&amp;domain=forever\">Stormwind<\/a> auction house, and the issue spread as more players mailed each other and bought from the auction house. One player reported that mail they sent was greyed out for a while before the send button lit up again.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"workarounds-players-have-tested\">Workarounds players have tested<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Hyphenate the recipient:<\/strong> mailing to an alt as &quot;Alpha-Beta&quot; instead of &quot;Alpha Beta&quot; worked for one player, who suspected the last name is being treated like a server name.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Return misdelivered mail:<\/strong> when mail lands on the wrong character, returning it sends it to the correct one.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Avoid shared first names:<\/strong> players who made all their alts with the same first name and different surnames are the ones hitting the self-mail block, so a distinct first name per character avoids it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Do not delete characters to fix it:<\/strong> one player deleted two alts hoping the remaining character would become the default recipient, then could not restore the deleted character because the game claimed an identical character already existed on the server.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"getting-dungeon-loot-back\">Getting dungeon loot back<\/h2>\n<p>Dungeon items you miss can arrive through Steamwheedle Lost and Found, a beta recovery service associated with <a href=\"#\" data-wowhead=\"npc=214954&amp;domain=forever\">Rix Xizzix<\/a>. It covers loot you did not collect during the run, including items that did not fit into full bags.<\/p>\n<p>The recovery mail is not a catch-all. It is aimed at dungeon loot the client failed to deliver during the run, not at every item you leave anywhere in the world. No delivery time, no complete list of recoverable item qualities, and no guarantee for every full-bag situation is established.<\/p>\n<p>To limit the damage while the bug is unresolved:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Clear bag space before the dungeon so fewer items need recovering.<\/li>\n<li>Finish the run and check the mailbox on a character whose mail you can open immediately.<\/li>\n<li>Note the dungeon, the item, and the approximate completion time if the message does not arrive.<\/li>\n<li>Report it with the item, sender, intended recipient, and actual destination.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2 id=\"what-the-official-notes-say\">What the official notes say<\/h2>\n<p>The <strong>September 24<\/strong> beta build notes list a fix for an issue where in-game mail could <strong>ignore surnames<\/strong>.
