Four core pillars guide every addition: approachable and familiar, the world as the main character, the journey before the destination, and protecting the social experiences that make Azeroth feel alive. In practice that means no flying mounts, no level scaling, and a level 60 cap that stays put while new content arrives instead of new levels.

The four core pillars

Blizzard measures every addition to World of Warcraft: Forever against the spirit of the original game and the feeling that it belongs in a world worth getting lost in. The pillars are approachable and familiar, the world as the main character, the journey before the destination, and protecting and nurturing the social experiences that make Azeroth feel alive.

Leveling remains just as important as endgame, effort continues to matter, and rewards come from playing the game: leveling up, running dungeons, making friends, exploring the world, and taking on new challenges together. The team is also being thoughtful about convenience, because every quality-of-life choice can shape the way players meet, gather, and make memories together.

Why Blizzard slowed the pace

Associate production director Clay Stone says there is "a real longing for that slower, more deliberate pace," and describes "a deliberate pushback on this 'go go go' nature". He points to the amount of information and noise players face constantly, and to the distractions of everyday notifications, as part of why that pace appeals.

Stone also credits the response to Classic and to Hardcore in 2023, where players who had never played before came in because of the slower pace. He notes that many players skipped Season of Discovery simply because it was a season and felt ephemeral, and that Forever is built as a package that is not going anywhere.

No flying mounts

You cross Azeroth on the ground, by boat, by zeppelin, and by flight path, just as in Classic. Travel keeps you in the world, where chance meetings with other players can turn a trip into a story.

Mount costs work differently from Classic: the up-front cost moves into riding training, and learning the riding skill grants you a mount. The developers still want a mount to feel earned, so seeing someone riding reflects the time and effort they have put in.

No level scaling

Zones keep their fixed level ranges, so dangerous places stay dangerous and every level you gain is real progress. Blizzard wants Azeroth to remain a world where preparation and teamwork matter, challenging without being difficult for its own sake.

Level 60 stays the cap

Forever is built as a long-term home rather than a version that raises its level cap, and the roadmap adds raids, dungeons, world content, PvP updates, and quests across the level 1–60 journey instead. New content does not invalidate what you have already earned.

The game grows through new raids, dungeons, zones, and quests rather than new levels. Horizontal progression is the shape of that plan, answering the question of whether it is too late to start with a no.

The journey to 60

More than a thousand new quests run through the level 1–60 journey, with four new and reimagined regions and unfinished corners of the original world opened up. Quest rewards are updated with more options for more classes and roles, so the end of a long questline hands you something you can use.

Riverglades: a rugged frontier of rivers, grasslands, trade routes, struggling communities, and old grudges, with more than 150 new quests across much of the mid-30s to mid-40s.

Zephras Isle: an elemental, skybound starting experience for levels 1 to 12 that blends Classic Warcraft aesthetics with architecture inspired by Skywall.

Mount Hyjal: a recovering land where you explore the aftermath of Archimonde's defeat and journey through Darkwhisper Gorge.

Shen'dralas: a long-hidden mystery between Mulgore and Desolace tied to the Shen'dralar, Eldre'Thalas, Dire Maul, and the region's centaur tribes.

Dungeon experience

Dungeon experience is tuned so that a first run is far more rewarding than repeating the same dungeon, which pushes players back out into the world. Blizzard wants people out in the world and interacting with others, and the change is meant to disincentivize farming one dungeon over and over. Players may favor questing in the new zones, exploring, or finding a new dungeon to complete instead.

The experience curve itself is unchanged, so hitting level 60 takes the same total experience as before even though the activities that grant it may change with the new zones.

Social and non-seasonal systems

Camping lets you craft campfires in the outdoor world so other adventurers can stop by, contribute through professions, and share campsite buffs. Campsites allow any player to rest and gain benefits such as vendors, repairs, tradeskill workspaces, and buffs, and each player can place an object from one of their professions to grant a buff to everyone at the campsite. Those buffs match various class buffs and cannot be stacked, so you cannot hold both a Herbalist's Incense Candle and a Mage's Arcane Intellect.

Legacy progression supports players who love leveling and running alts. Professions feed into it: you earn a Legacy Point the first time you level each tradeskill to 150, 225, and 300, and Legacy Points can be spent on perks in Legacy trees, including a Professions tree.

If you would rather spend your play time on the parts of the journey you enjoy, an WoW Forever leveling boost can take the leveling itself off your hands.

World of Warcraft Forever design changes mean no flying mounts, no level scaling, and a level 60 cap that stays put.

[1460,3
1527,1503
97
127
post-42438","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-wow-forever","category-all","tag-world-of-warcraft-forever-design-changes","tag-wow-forever","author-dina

Forever is built around level 60, and the game grows through new raids, dungeons, zones, and quests instead.

Do I have to buy a mount after learning to ride?

No. The cost is part of riding training, and you receive a mount when you learn the skill.

World of Warcraft Forever design changes mean no flying mounts, no level scaling, and a level 60 cap that stays put.
"url2x":"https://epiccarry.com/blogs/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Dina-avatar.webp"},"0":null,"1":"","2":"","3":"","4":"","5":"","6":"","7":"","8":"
["GET
