Glory of the Hero Achievement Full Overview

Glory of the Hero Achievement Full Overview

This article will give you complete and exhaustive information about the Glory of the Hero meta-achievement. We will give you a concise description of each smaller achievement and the way it may be completed. We will also try to find some hints, tricks and useful tips for each of them, so you could make your way to a reward easier. Make yourself comfortable and let’s begin.

The Achievement System

Ever since the achievement system was integrated into the game, players have come across more or less interesting and desirable achievements and rewards they offer. There are several major categories of achievements:

GeneralAll achievements, which can’t fit into concrete groups, like the ones where you have to /love different creatures of Azeroth or fall from high altitude without dying.
QuestEverything, which is related to quests of all sorts.
ExplorationFully explore each zone on every continent; Outland and Northrend are included.
Player vs PlayerA large category of achievements, which players get while participating in solo or group PvP activities, such as Arenas and Battlegrounds.
Dungeons & RaidsThe largest and miscellaneous group of all. Most material rewards are also here.
ProfessionsMaster chosen professions to get achievements.
ReputationsThe more factions will respect you, the more achievements you will get.
World EventsThere are a number of different events which take place throughout the year. They are usually related to various feasts from the real world, such as Fool’s Day or Thanksgiving. Taking part in these events rewards players with achievements.
Feats of StrengthThis category includes really hard-to-complete achievements, or the ones that are available for a short period of time; all the lootable mounts’ achievements also go here.

Rewards

Most achievements reward you with special points. The more points you have, the cooler you are. But you will get fewer points if the achievement is easy. The only exception is the Feats of Strength category. These achievements are really hard to accomplish; some of them may even be completed only once. That’s why these achievements award no points at all, but consider being more significant. You may compare your achievements with anyone you like from your faction, and frankly speaking, this is a thrilling process indeed, as you may always find new achievements you had no idea existed, and thus find new goals and challenges.

If we speak about material rewards, they may be of all sorts. Often titles for various accomplishments like reputations, or tabards for Northrend Exploration, for example. But the most desirable reward is a new mount, of course. Many achievements reward players with a new transport, but they are sometimes extremely hard to get. For example, a rideable Black War Bear is given only to those who managed to kill all leaders of the opposite faction.

But the most lavish category is Dungeons & Raids, where mounts are a regular reward. The Glory of the Hero is a typical representative of this group. Each following expansion had its own Glory of the Hero, and each had a new mount to collect. Such mounts are not usually completely unique, but they always attract views of other gamers.

GotH Achievement Dungeons

The Glory of the Hero is a huge meta-achievement that comprises 34 minor ones. All of them may be completed in 12 Northrend Dungeons, and each has several achievements to accomplish. All four dungeons from the Icecrown zone are not included for some reason.

Below you may find a short table with the dungeons under discussion and a brief information about them.

Glory of the Hero Achievements

Here are all thirty-four achievements you need to accomplish to receive your prize, and below you may see a full list. Please note that all achievements are to be done in Heroic mode and may not be completed on Normal difficulty.

After everything is completed, persistent players will receive their reward – the Reins of the Red Proto-Drake. This is a flying mount, which will become a perfect addition to the transport collection. And even though there are several other proto-drakes, this one is one of the coolest due to its dark-blood skin colour and flamed jaws.

You may see right away that the task is time-consuming and complicated. You have to not only travel along the Northrend dozens of times, but spend hours in heroic dungeons, trying to complete a certain task in a certain way. This is surely an immense challenge for every mount collectionner. That’s why we offer a Red Proto-Drake Boosting Service. This is a perfect opportunity to get a beautiful mount without redundant inconveniences and time investments. Our boosters will do the job and you may relax meanwhile. We will try to present you with this dragon as soon as we can, so you could rise to the cold skies of Northrend.

GotH Achievements Detailed Description

Let us inspect each achievement, so you could know all the particularities beforehand. We shall combine the achievements by dungeons they are related to, so you could find the ones you need in no time.

Utgarde Keep

On The Rocks

Description: Defeat Prince Keleseth in Utgarde Keep on Heroic Difficulty without shattering any Frost Tombs.

Useful tips: Be careful: Frost Tombs are easily broken with Paladins’ bubbles, Mages’ Ice Blocks, with the help of Humans’ racial ability, and a PvP trinket.

You may heal a person who got stuck in a Frost Tomb – you will still get the achievement.

Azjol-Nerub

Hadronox Denied

Description: Defeat Hadronox in Azjol-Nerub on Heroic Difficulty before he webs the top doors and prevents more creatures from spawning

What to do: Evade the boss first, and kill it on the second try.

Watch Him Die

Description: Defeat Krik’thir the Gatewatcher in Azjol-Nerub on Heroic Difficulty while Watcher Gashra, Watcher Narji, and Watcher Silthik are still alive.

What to do: The watchers can be stunned, but cannot be affected by crowd control skills, traps, or fears.

You will need a Hunter.

Everyone, except for the Hunter, walks into the water on the right side of the entrance. Hunter sets an Immolation Trap in the “doorway” and walks aside. A pet aggros three packs of mobs and gets killed; as a result, mobs change their target to a Hunter and are caught in a trap. The guy sets a Frost Trap and dashes away.

Meanwhile, other members of the group use Bloodlust/Heroism and kill the boss.

Gotta Go!

Description: Defeat Anub’arak in Azjol-Nerub on Heroic Difficulty in four minutes or less.

What to do: Slow the boss’ casting time by all means, use DOTs and Bloodlust/Heroism.

Ahn’kahet: The Old Kingdom

Volazj’s Quick Demise

Description: Defeat Herald Volazj in Ahn’kahet on Heroic Difficulty in 2 minutes or less.

What to do: Use Bloodlust/Heroism after the first Insanity. It’s better to have a strong melee group with a Protection Warrior as a tank.

Respect Your Elders

Description: Defeat Elder Nadox in Ahn’kahet on Heroic Difficulty without killing any Ahn’kahar Guardians.

What to do: It’s better to have two tanks and two healers. Main tank keeps the boss in its place beside the wall. Healers and RDD stand in the middle of a room. Off tank moves a big add to the opposite wall. Repeat as many times as you need.

Volunteer Work

Description: Defeat Jedoga Shadowseeker in Ahn’kahet on Heroic Difficulty without killing any Twilight Volunteers.

Useful tips: Watch where you place DOTs to not damage adds. MDD is better to stay away from the boss while it is in the enrage mode.

The Nexus

Chaos Theory

Description: Defeat Anomalus in The Nexus on Heroic Difficulty without destroying any Chaotic Rifts.

What to do: The theory is pretty simple: each time the boss becomes immune to attacks, the entire party except for the tank goes either a bit lower (on to the next platform), or stands behind the tank’s back. In both cases, the tank has all the adds and lightning on him. These strategy plans require RDD mostly, but strong healers can deal with them as well. Actually, you are going to need powerful healers anyway, as adds, lightning, and the boss deal serious damage, especially on a final phase (around 25-10% of boss’ HP).

Split Personality

Description: Defeat Grand Magus Telestra in The Nexus on Heroic Difficulty after having killed her images within 5 seconds of each other during both splits.

What to do: Try to leave about 10% on every boss’ image and kill them altogether after, using AOE spells.

Intense Cold

Description: Defeat Keristrasza in The Nexus on Heroic Difficulty without allowing Intense Cold to reach more than two stacks.

Useful tips: Every man here is for himself, as it’s not a group-wide achievement. Use all dispelling skills your class has. Free Action Potion and PvP trinkets also help a lot.

Drak’Tharon Keep

Better Off Dred

Description: Engage King Dred in Drak’Tharon Keep on Heroic Difficulty and slay 6 Drakkari Gutrippers or Drakkari Scytheclaw during his defeat.

What to do: Keep torturing the boss until he summons all adds; kill raptors and the boss after it.

Do not slay raptors before pulling the boss. Luckily, there are seven animals in the stable, so you always have one in case of an emergency.

You have only one chance to do the achievement. There won’t be enough raptors if you wipe even once, as three of them won’t resurrect.

Consumption Junction

Description: Defeat Trollgore in Drak’Tharon Keep on Heroic Difficulty before Consume reaches ten stacks.

What to do: The easiest way is to kill the boss as fast as you can. Healer may change to DD as well. Use all CDs, Bloodlust/Heroism, and whatever you may think of.

Oh Novos!

Description: Defeat Novos the Summoner in Drak’Tharon Keep on Heroic Difficulty without allowing any undead minions to reach the floor.

What to do: Just don’t let the adds go downstairs. As simple as that.

The Violet Hold

Defenseless

Description: Defeat Cyanigosa in The Violet Hold without using Defence Control Crystals and with Prison Seal Integrity at 100% while in Heroic Difficulty.

What to do: This is one of the easiest achievements in this category. Use any AOE skill to not let the adds reach the door. Better have a DK or Paladin tanks – they deal with it easily. The Defence Crystals are placed on the walls, so just don’t click on them.

Lockdown!

Description: Defeat Xevozz, Lavanthor, Ichoron, Zuramat the Obliterator, Erekem, and Moragg in The Violet Hold on Heroic Difficulty.

Cheering up message: Good luck and pray for the God of Random.

Dehydration

Description: Defeat Ichoron in the Violet Hold on Heroic Difficulty without allowing any Ichor Globules to merge.

What to do: Watch the situation during the boss fight and activate a red crystal on the wall when the boss is about to split. The spell casts for 6 seconds, so the right timing is important.

A Void Dance

Description: Defeat Zuramat the Obliterator in The Violet Hold on Heroic Difficulty without killing any void sentries.

What to do: Seems to be the rarest of all Violet Hold bosses. Yet if you meet him, simply don’t touch void sentries.

Gundrak

Share The Love

Description: Defeat Gal’darah in Gundrak on Heroic Difficulty and have 5 unique party members get impaled throughout the fight.

What to do: It’s better to have either two tanks for this achievement, or a tank and a geared plate-user. There are several working strategies; the most frequent is the one, where the boss stamps right before impaling someone. The tramping throws the players about the room, and the closest to the boss gets a ride on the horn.

It is better to start with the tank and finish with the healer.

What the Eck?

Description: Defeat Gal’darah in Gundrak on Heroic Difficulty while under the effects of Eck Residue.

What to do: When the boss casts Eck Spit the entire party should come to the tank to get Eck Residue debuff. The debuff is easily removed by Divine Shield, Cloak of Shadows, Iceblock, and pretty much anything that can remove debuffs, including death; avoid using these abilities.

Eck Residue lasts for 60 minutes and has no harmful effects.

Snakes. Why’d It Have To Be Snakes?

Description: Defeat Slad’ran in Gundrak on Heroic Difficulty without getting snake wrapped.

A fun fact: you can’t get wrapped if you are dead, which means you will still get the achievement even if you didn’t survive till the end of the fight.

Less-rabi

Description: Defeat Moorabi in Gundrak on Heroic Difficulty while preventing him from transforming into a mammoth at any point during the encounter.

What to do: It is better to have four Damage Dealers for this achievement instead of three. The boss casts Transformation each 10 seconds while above 50% of HP, and each 5 seconds below 50%. Distribute casts between party members and interrupt them in time.

If the boss manages to cast Transformation, everyone jumps over the handrails and runs towards the place where the second boss had been; this will evade Moorabi and you can start over.

Halls of Stone

Good Grief

Description: Defeat the Maiden of Grief in the Halls of Stone on Heroic Difficulty in 1 minute or less.

What to do: The one and only thing you need is a proper group with high DPS. There may be various setups, according to your skills and gear, but it’s good to have these class/spec combinations: Protection Warrior, Unholy and Blood Death Knights, and a Hunter.

Use Bloodlust/Heroism.

Move into the nearest “storm”, when Maiden of Grief casts the Shock of Sorrow. It also can be dispelled by some skills.

Brann Spankin’ New

Description: Defeat the Tribunal of Ages encounter in the Halls of Stone on Heroic Difficulty without allowing Brann Bronzebeard to take any damage.

Useful tips: You are going to need at least two strong AOE party members, who should take care of mobs. Hunter’s Frost Trap at the entrance may also be of good use.

Abuse the Ooze

Description: Defeat Sjonnir the Ironshaper in the Halls of Stone on Heroic Difficulty and kill 5 Iron Sludges during the encounter.

What to do: The Sludges start to spawn when the Boss’ health is below 50%, but they stop spawning when the health is below 25%; keep it in mind.

The perfect situation is when you stop DPSing at about 30%, kill all 5 sludges, and then kill the boss.

Better keep the boss in the centre, the healer on the middle bridge, and damage dealers on side bridges. The thing is to keep all players as far from each other as possible.

Wait till small sludges transform into big and then defeat them. Repeat five times.

Halls of Lightning

Shatter Resistant

Description: Defeat Volkhan in the Halls of Lightning on Heroic Difficulty without allowing him to shatter more than 4 Brittle Golems.

What to do: No particular tactics; just slain the boss quickly.

Timely Death

Description: Defeat Loken in the Halls of Lightning on Heroic Difficulty in 2 minutes or less.

Useful tips: Restoration Shaman is a key to success. Holy priests are also an adequate variant, but they should have a good mana regeneration.

Lightning Struck

Description: Defeat General Bjarngrim in the Halls of Lightning on Heroic Difficulty while he has a Temporary Electrical Charge.

What to do: Kill adds first and the boss after them. Start the fight when the boss is buffed with Temporary Electrical Charge.

The Oculus

Make It Count

Description: Defeat Ley-Guardian Eregos in The Oculus on Heroic Difficulty within 20 minutes of Drakos the Interrogator’s death.

Useful tips: The most important thing to remember: do not loot corpses. Even bosses. You will have an opportunity to do it afterwards.

Community says the best setup for this achievement is two Ruby dragons, two Amber, and an Emerald.

Do not forget to dispense dragons before you start the dungeon; it will save you some time as well.

The group setup better have a Restoration Shaman and a Blood Death Knight.

Experienced Drake Rider

Description: On three different visits to The Oculus, get credit for defeating Ley-Guardian Eregos while riding an Amber, Emerald, and Ruby drake on Heroic Difficulty.

Useful tips: Everything is obvious except for one insignificant detail. You have to stay in the saddle no matter what until the very end. You won’t have an achievement if you are dismounted or dead.

Emerald Void

Description: Defeat Ley-Guardian Eregos in The Oculus on Heroic Difficulty without anyone in your party using an Emerald Drake.

What to do: The most common dragon setup is two Ruby and three Amber. There may also be a variant with four drakes – two Ruby and two Amber. In this situation, the healer stands on the platform without the dragon and heals a tank.

The healer may also ride a Ruby drake and be the first tank. When the healer’s drake falls, he will do his job from the platform.

There are about a dozen working strategies for this achievement, but whatever you choose, make sure you adhere to it. You won’t survive otherwise.

You may also try to combine this achievement with Amber Void (see below). You are going to need five Ruby drakes in such a case.

Amber Void

Description: Defeat Ley-Guardian Eregos in The Oculus on Heroic Difficulty without anyone in your party using an Amber Drake.

What to do: You may try to combine this achievement with Emerald Void (see above). You are going to need five Ruby drakes in such a case. It is also better to have two healers. The idea is: healers pull the boss and tank it. After their dragons are killed, everybody else tank the boss one-by-one, so healers could keep you all alive. The party has to be well played together or have a voice connection, like Discord.

Ruby Void

Description: Defeat Ley-Guardian Eregos in The Oculus on Heroic Difficulty without anyone in your party using a Ruby Drake.

What to do: Apart from more utilitarian strategies, there is one that is very long, but effective, and what is more important, you can do it solo.

Ride a green (Emerald) drake. Pull the boss with Leeching Poison, press Num Lock, and start flying in circles around the boss, using the same spell over and over. The boss is easy to evade, so try staying on the same high with it. Move smoothly not to get too much incoming damage. The entire process will take you about 40 minutes. It’s a real challenge, but it’s surely worth it.

Utgarde Pinnacle

King’s Bane

Description: Defeat King Ymiron in Utgarde Pinnacle on Heroic Difficulty without anyone in the party triggering Bane.

What to do: Dismiss all pets. Each time the boss casts Bane, stop DPS and click off him.

The Incredible Hulk

Description: Force Svala Sorrowgrave to kill a Scourge Hulk on Heroic Difficulty in Utgarde Pinnacle.

What to do: There is a Scourge Hulk beneath the staircase near the boss. Damage it until it has 10% of HP left. Pull the boss, lead the abomination to the altar and wait for the Ritual of the Sword spell to finish a hulk. If it wasn’t killed by the spell directly, you must finish it while DOT is active. Luckily, there are a few more abominations throughout the dungeon in case you fail; just don’t kill the boss.

My Girl Loves to Skadi All the Time

Description: Defeat Skadi the Ruthless in Utgarde Pinnacle on Heroic Difficulty after having killed Grauf from 100% to dead in a single pass.

What to do: Start the encounter and gather about eight harpoons from adds. Spread the harpoons and arbalests and start spamming triggers as soon as the dragon is ready.

The achievement may be done solo.

Lodi Dodi We Loves the Skadi

Description: Defeat Skadi the Ruthless in Utgarde Pinnacle on Heroic Difficulty within 3 minutes of starting the gauntlet event.

What to do: Start the encounter and gather about eight harpoons. Evade the boss by running out of the open gallery. Start the encounter again. Tank pulls all the mob packs except for the farthest and the party slains them. At the second stage, the tank gathers the pack he left and new mobs. Players with harpoons are ready, and when the boss is down, everyone starts massive DPS using as many AOE abilities as they can.

The Culling of Stratholme

The Culling of Time

Description: Defeat the Infinite Corruptor in The Culling of Stratholme on Heroic Difficulty.

What to do: Infinite Corruptor is a black-and-white dragonkin that waits for players to the left of the entrance to the square with Mal’Ganis boss. It exists for 25 minutes and will disappear immediately after the time is over. The event starts at the moment the first pack of mobs shows. If you manage to kill it within the timer, you will get Reins of the Bronze Drake as a reward. Drop chance is 100%, so the dragon is yours, just kill the guy in time.

The Infinite Corruptor will vanish even if you are in the middle of a fight with it and the time is over.

The main advice is to not waste your time in the dungeon.

Try to remember where the packs of mobs appear, so you could move between them more efficiently.

It’s better if all three damage dealers have AOE abilities.

Zombiefest!

Description: Kill 100 Risen Zombies in one minute in The Culling of Stratholme on Heroic Difficulty.

What to do: Pull the second boss and move it to the staircase in the tavern. Wait for about 4 minutes till all the zombies rise and kill the boss after. Kill the third boss. Everyone except for the tank goes to the back door and chills outside. Tank runs towards the dungeon entrance up to a fountain, pulls all mobs, and rushes back. He waits for all the zombies to gather and starts the show. Other group members use their AOE abilities as much as they can. Just control your DPS to not to reaggro mobs.

After this massacre finishes, you still have about 40 seconds and 30 zombies left. Heal the tank, exit the tavern and start pulling and AOEing literally everything you see. Yes, you will have quite a number of elite mobs on your tail, but that doesn’t really matter, since you have an obvious goal.

Tank may be exchanged with a group member with stealth.

Whoever pulls the zombies should switch off all damaging auras and buffs.

The entire party will heroically wipe, most probably.
