As legend has it, the Frozen Throne, a hunk of the iciest crystal from the far reaches of the Twisting Nether, plummeted down to Northrend. Now, the impact didn’t just create a dent. Under the watchful gaze of the soul trapped within – the once mighty orc shaman Ner’zhul, now twisted into the entity known as the Lich King – they built. So, Icecrown Citadel (ICC) is the highlight of our Northrend shenanigans. It’s a behemoth with 12 bosses that’s more like climbing Mount Everest filled with undead nasties. The big climax? A dance-off with Arthas, the Lich King. The dude’s got some serious frosty anger issues.
Here’s the quick and dirty:
- Location? Icecrown, duh.
- 12 bosses, spread out over 5 wings.
- After clearing the entrance, you’ve got a mix-and-match choice for the next 3 wings before hitting the final showdown.

The big twist? Switching raid difficulties on-the-fly. So, while you’re in the middle of smashing undead faces, you could crank up the challenge, but with a catch. Want a taste of Heroic mode? Beat the Lich King in Normal first. And for the hardcore raiders, there was a “limited tries” gimmick for the toughest bosses. You got only so many chances each week to down Professor Putricide, Blood-Queen Lana’thel, Sindragosa, and our frosty boy, the Lich King. Run out of attempts, and you’d have to cool your heels ’til next week.

How do i Get to the Ice Crown Citadel?
- Hearthstone to Dalaran: Use your Hearthstone to teleport to Dalaran in Northrend. If you haven’t set Dalaran as your home, you can also fly there or use a portal.
- Fly to Icecrown: Once in Dalaran, mount up on your flying mount and head southwest towards the Icecrown zone.
- Coordinates: Once you arrive in Icecrown, the coordinates for Icecrown Citadel are approximately 53.6, 87.2.
- Land and Enter: Look for the towering spire of Icecrown Citadel, which is hard to miss. Land there and enter the instance portal.

- Melee: Hug Marrowgar to avoid Coldflame. Smash those impaled by spikes, and if you’re feeling spicy, use that Bone Storm for a DPS bump!
- Ranged: Either bait out Coldflame or stay in melee. Freeing trapped comrades = top priority!

Abilities:
- Mana Barrier: Absorbs damage by draining her mana. Gotta deplete it to start phase 2.
- Shadow Bolt: Pings random folks with some shadowy hurt.
- Death and Decay: A painful purple puddle. Stay out!
- Dominate Mind: Mind controls your pals. Be ready to deal.
- Frostbolt & Frostbolt Volley: A big ol’ icy pain spike.
- Touch of Insignificance: Reduces tank threat.
- Summon Spirit: Chases you with ghostly shades. Run!
Tank Duties:
- Point those Cult Fanatics away from others; nobody wants a Shadow Cleave to the face.
- See a Deformed Fanatic? Kite ’em if you can, they’re spicy!
- Juggle threat during Phase 2 – that Touch of Insignificance is a pesky thing.
Healer Chores:
- Prioritize removing Curse of Torpor.
- Stay spread but be ready to heal through Death and Decay and Frostbolt Volley.
- Prep for bursts after those Vengeful Blasts.
DPS Deeds:
- Melee: Stay away from Cult Fanatic fronts and pause AoE when Dominate Mind is off cooldown.
- Ranged: Spread out for Death and Decay and be on your toes for those Vengeful Shades.
- Everyone: Watch out for mind-controlled mates and get them out of the fray safely.

Gunship Battle: Naval warfare in the skies of Icecrown. You’ll be blasting the opposite faction’s ship, defending yours from boarding parties, and occasionally hopping over to eliminate threats on their ship.
Abilities:
- Cannon Blast: The cannon’s primary damage ability. Generates heat.
- Incinerating Blast: Powerful AoE cannon blast using accumulated heat for each 8 seconds.
- Below Zero: The enemy Battle-mage’s spell that freezes your cannons. Neutralize him ASAP.
- Rocket Artillery: Creates explosive zones on your ship’s deck. Avoid these!
Tank Jobs:
- Keep aggro on the invading forces on your ship. Keep them grouped for AoE damage.
- When boarding the enemy ship, taunt and control Muradin Bronzebeard/High Overlord Saurfang. As you already know, to taunt muradin bronzebeard only if you’re play the horde Keep them at bay while your DPS deals with the Battle-mage and other threats.
Healer Duties:
- Focus primarily on the tank dealing with the Commander on the enemy ship.
- Top off raid members hit by Rocket Artillery.
- Triage and prioritize. Some members might take more damage depending on their role.
DPS Deeds:
- Cannon team: Blast the enemy ship, but watch the heat. Use Incinerating Blast as needed.
- Boarding party: Prioritize the Battle-mage to unfreeze your cannons. Then, assist with clearing out enemy forces. Return quickly to your ship to deal with boarders.

Deathbringer Saurfang: A brute of a boss with emphasis on smart execution and efficient raid DPS. He’s got some tricky mechanics that can put the pressure on your healers, especially with the Mark of the Fallen Champion.
Abilities:
- Blood Link: Fills Saurfang’s Blood Power meter.
- Rune of Blood: Forces a tank switch, or Saurfang gets a big heal.
- Boiling Blood: Periodic damage on random players.
- Blood Nova: AOE damage on a ranged target and neighbors.
- Call Blood Beast: Summons creatures that are a threat to squishy members.
- Frenzy: He gets mad at 30% health. He attacks faster.
Tank Jobs:
- Swap when Rune of Blood is on you. If you do not swap on the Rune of Blood, it’s a memento more wipe.
- Keep him facing the ship for Blood Beast spawns.
- Use defensives when his Blood Power is high, especially during his Frenzy.
- Control the Blood Beasts, but avoid getting hit.
Healer Duties:
- Stay spread due to Blood Nova.
- Mark of the Fallen Champion is a priority – keep them alive at all costs. If you skip the mark of the fallen champion it’s a memento wipe in 60 seconds.
- Coordinate defensive cooldown rotations during Saurfang’s Frenzy.
DPS Deeds:
- Ranged: Spread out! You don’t want Blood Nova hitting more than one of you.
- Melee: Watch out for AoE when Blood Beasts spawn.
- Blood Beasts are priority targets. Control them, but focus-fire them down.
- Use your personal defensive cooldowns if you get Mark of the Fallen Champion and during his Frenzy.

Festergut: Big ol’ undead dude in the Plagueworks. It’s a race against a 5-min timer. Watch out for that nasty gas!
Abilities:
- Gaseous Blight: Deadly gas fills the room.
- Inhale Blight: Buffs his damage by sucking in the gas.
- Pungent Blight: Massive raid-wide shadow damage.
- Vile Gas: It’s as gross as it sounds, targeting randoms.
- Gas Spore: Shadow resistance mechanic.
- Gastric Bloat: Tank debuff. At 10 stacks? Kaboom!
- Malleable Goo (Heroic): Dodge the green goo!
Tank Doing:
- Swap tanks at 9 stacks of Gastric Bloat. Don’t wanna explode, right?
- Pop those defensive cooldowns when he’s got three stacks of Inhaled Blight.
- Get within range of Gas Spore for resistance buffs.
Heals Doing:

- Vile Gas (Heroic): Spread out. Don’t group vomit.

- One holds Rotface center, other kites the Big Oozes.
- Kiting tank: Generate threat early, kite around walls, dodge Ooze Floods.

- Stay spread at least 8 yards to dodge Vile Gas.

- Malleable Goo: Watch for bouncing goo and dodge!
- Choking Gas Bomb: Nasty clouds you’ll want to avoid. It’s not a wipe mechanics in the normal, but if you slept choking gas bomb for a 35 seconds in the heroic, it’s an automatically wipe you.
- Mutated Strength: Boss hits harder and infects with an escalating damage debuff.
- Mutated Plague: A ticking raid-wide damage that increases per stack.

- Rotate based on Mutated Plague stacks and communicate swaps.
- Keep boss away from Choking Gas Bombs and Slime Puddles.

- Kinetic Bomb: Floating bombs that explode if they reach the ground.
- Shock Vortex: A force that deals damage and knocks back players.

Prince Keleseth:

Blood-Queen Lana’thel’s basically the final boss in the Crimson Hall. She’s got this annoying timer of 5:30 minutes. If you don’t drop her in that time, she’ll go bananas and wipe your crew. Keep an eye on that Vampiric Bite stuff; it’s the key to mega DPS boosts!
Boss Moves:
- Ground Phase:
- Blood Mirror: Basically, she slaps your main tank and the buddy next to them, mirroring the damage. So pick a secondary tank to take that mirrored slap.
- Delirious Slash: Nasty bleed on the second tank.
- Shroud of Sorrow: Think of this as her emo aura. Hurts everyone in range, except the mirrored tank.
- Twilight Bloodbolt & Pact of the Darkfallen: This one’s a doozy. You’ll be tied to some buds. Run to the center and hug it out to break the bond.
- Swarming Shadows: Purple ground badness. If you’re targeted, run to the wall and leave a purple trail. Avoid it, please!
- Air Phase:

Valithria‘s not just any dragon, but the boss of Icecrown Citadel we gotta save! Instead of smacking a boss, the entire raid’s healing her up. Healers, you’re on Valithria-watch. The rest of the gang, fend off the baddies throughout the fight! To defeat the lich king you should pass through this boss, too… To be honest, to defeat the lick king, you should pass through all the lich king’s power servants.
The Baddies and Their Shenanigans:
- Blazing Skeleton (350k HP) – Not the type you want at your party. These boneheads have a Lay Waste trick that’s inflicting shadow damage to the entire raid. Melee DPS, these guys are top priority.
- Suppresser (151k HP) – They’re trying to pull off the Suppression move on Valithria. Squash ’em before they reach her!
- Risen Archmage (390k HP) – Watch for their Frostbolt Volley. Interrupt it, and ranged damage dealers should focus them down.
- Blistering Zombie (302k HP) – They’re dealing massive damage with their Acid Burst. Make sure to move away when they go kaboom!
- Gluttonous Abomination (1.3M HP) – Big ol’ meatball that off-tanks should handle. Oh, and they spawn Rot Worms. Ew.

- First things first, main tank, make sure you position this boss at the edge of the platform.
- Got Frost Breath coming? Ensure you’ve got frost resist and ready those cooldowns. An off-tank might be handy to swap when needed, especially during phase 1.
- The entire raid’s depending on you to position her right. Keep her away from the raid and on her toes!
Healer Heads-up:

To get the Reins of Invincible…the ultimate trophy mount that screams, “I conquered Icecrown Citadel and all I got was this legendary undead horse.
To be honest, there’s nothing special you haven’t to except, defeating the lich king in the hardest of possible difficulties. There’s only one limitation, and it’s called the drop. Only one player per-run can get the reins of invincible, so or you have at least 25 different guilds, which are able you to play with them, and close lich king 25 times a week, and ask for each time for drop the mount… or just suffer, and wait 25 weeks, until you’ll get the mount.
