Epic IceCrown Citadel Guide Trailer for WoW Classic

Hey dude! Let me guess… This is your 100th Icecrown Citadel guide. You’re still not ready to push the Lich King in his citadel, which is why you’re looking for archives and new guides about the Wrath of the Lich King’s last raid. And it’s reasonable, because after the Wrath of the Lich King, the golden era of classic Warcraft will end.

Icc 25 Man Guide

So, you’re here, and maybe you’re searching for:

  1. What to do in the Wrath of the Lich King Icecrown Citadel?
  2. What to farm in the Icecrown Citadel?
  3. How to defeat the Lich King?
  4. How to catch all those legendaries, like Shadowmourne?
  5. How to collect the best mount in the world of Warcraft ever?
  6. What else can you obtain in the ICC?
  7. What to do with a Shadowmourne if you’re not a Paladin, Warrior, or Death Knight?

Or maybe you’re interested in some dull facts about the ICC, like when it was invented? What interesting things are hidden in the ICC? How to earn the Glory of Icecrown Citadel achievement?

So, we’ll strive (but not sure if we’ll succeed) to tell you about:

  1. Tactics.
  2. Facts.
  3. Loot.
  4. Gear.
  5. Builds.

Let’s defeat Arthas Menethil together! But before we continue our tale about tactics, rotation routines, and World of Warcraft hints, let’s go back in time together and spend a little of our time on what? Yup! For the lore and the history of the Icecrown Citadel…

What about IceCrown Citadel by a Warcraft Lore & Plot?

Icc 25

Because as you might been known, there wasn’t any icecrown citadels before the WOW. There was a little Frozen Throne, with a suffering orc soul inside. But how the little throne was transformed into a Scourge menace? Let’s find answer together.

In a land where cold gnawed at bones and hope was but a fleeting dream, the Icecrown Citadel stood. This wasn’t just any heap of snow and rock. No, this was a monument, a testament to a power so vast and chilling that even the bravest heroes would think twice before knocking on its frosty doors.

As legend has it, the Frozen Throne, a hunk of the iciest crystal from the far reaches of the Twisting Nether, plummeted down to Northrend. Now, the impact didn’t just create a dent. No. It pulsated with an eerie power, a beckoning for dark beings to gather. And gather they did. Under the watchful gaze of the soul trapped within – the once mighty orc shaman Ner’zhul, now twisted into the entity known as the Lich King – they built. Not a cozy cottage, but a fortress of doom: The Icecrown Citadel.

Enter Arthas Menethil, a once shining prince turned puppet of malevolence. He was driven, possessed by an insatiable need to claim Northrend and all its secrets. His journey led him right to the heart of Icecrown. And when he merged with the Lich King, sealing his fate and asserting his reign, the Citadel wasn’t just a structure. It was a living, breathing entity of cold and death, mirroring its master’s heart.

But why was the Citadel built, you ask? Ah, dear adventurer, that’s where things get murky. Some say it was to guard the Lich King as he consolidated his power, while others whisper it was built as a challenge, a gauntlet thrown to the world that said, “Dare you enter? Dare you defy?”

Throughout its halls echoed the cries of souls lost, the groans of the restless undead, and the secrets that only a place as ancient and mysterious as Icecrown could keep.

It’s not just a place. It’s a saga, etched in ice, waiting for brave souls to uncover its tales and, perhaps, to challenge the dark lord sitting on his Frozen Throne.

IceCrown wotlk Raid Overview

Icc 25 Guide

So, Icecrown Citadel (ICC) is the highlight of our Northrend shenanigans. It’s a behemoth with 12 bosses that’s more like climbing Mount Everest filled with undead nasties. The big climax? A dance-off with Arthas, the Lich King. The dude’s got some serious frosty anger issues.

Here’s the quick and dirty:

  • Location? Icecrown, duh.
  • 12 bosses, spread out over 5 wings.
  • After clearing the entrance, you’ve got a mix-and-match choice for the next 3 wings before hitting the final showdown.
  • Eyeing some Tier 10 raid gear? Bosses drop the tokens for ’em.
  • Feeling flexy? You’ve got 10-player and 25-player modes, and for those feeling extra spicy, Normal and Heroic flavors.
  • If you’re all about that bling, you could score the Shadowmourne, a Legendary axe that’s cooler than Northrend itself.

While you’re in there, buddy up with The Ashen Verdict gang for some special loot. And keep an eye out for Primordial Saronite; it’s like ICC’s version of a collector’s card.

And just a quick heads up for those late to the WotLK party: raids come in two sizes – a cozy 10-player and the epic 25-player. Same chilly fun, but the 25er’s got shinier toys to grab.

So, ready to dive into the frosty heart of Northrend?

IceCrown in Wrath of the Lick king | how it was in 2010?

Icecrown Citadel Wing

Back in 2010, Blizzard threw us into the frosty embrace of Icecrown Citadel (ICC). Instead of letting us face the Lich King right off the bat, they dangled him in front of us like a carrot on a stick, releasing ICC in chunks. Crafty devils! First up, they gave us the Lower Spire. A few weeks later, they teased us with the Plagueworks, and then the Crimson Hall. By the time February rolled around, they finally gave us the full icy monty, opening up the Frostwing Halls.

ICC 2010 Release Timeline:

  • Lower Spire 12/24/09;
  • Plagueworks 01/19/10;
  • Crimson Hall 01/19/10;
  • Frostwing Halls 02/02/10.

The big twist? Switching raid difficulties on-the-fly. So, while you’re in the middle of smashing undead faces, you could crank up the challenge, but with a catch. Want a taste of Heroic mode? Beat the Lich King in Normal first. And for the hardcore raiders, there was a “limited tries” gimmick for the toughest bosses. You got only so many chances each week to down Professor Putricide, Blood-Queen Lana’thel, Sindragosa, and our frosty boy, the Lich King. Run out of attempts, and you’d have to cool your heels ’til next week.

And man, the community was buzzing! Some loved the phased releases; it built anticipation. Others? Not so much, feeling like they were kept on a leash. And that limited try system? Whew, talk about pressure. But hey, that’s what made ICC an epic raiding memory for many!

Blood-Queen Lana’thel

Icc 25

Blood-Queen Lana’thel’s basically the final boss in the Crimson Hall. She’s got this annoying timer of 5:30 minutes. If you don’t drop her in that time, she’ll go bananas and wipe your crew. Keep an eye on that Vampiric Bite stuff; it’s the key to mega DPS boosts!

Boss Moves:

  1. Ground Phase:
    • Blood Mirror: Basically, she slaps your main tank and the buddy next to them, mirroring the damage. So pick a secondary tank to take that mirrored slap.
    • Delirious Slash: Nasty bleed on the second tank.
    • Shroud of Sorrow: Think of this as her emo aura. Hurts everyone in range, except the mirrored tank.
    • Twilight Bloodbolt & Pact of the Darkfallen: This one’s a doozy. You’ll be tied to some buds. Run to the center and hug it out to break the bond.
    • Swarming Shadows: Purple ground badness. If you’re targeted, run to the wall and leave a purple trail. Avoid it, please!
  2. Air Phase:
    • She flies, you cry. She’ll scare everyone with Incite Terror. When she’s airborne, she sends a rain of Bloodbolt Whirl on y’all. Spread out and dodge that.

Tank Tactics:

  1. Main tank on Lana’thel. Second tank stands close by for that Blood Mirror link.
  2. When she takes to the skies, just chill. She’ll return to the main tank afterward.

Healer Hints:

  1. Keep everyone patched up during those nasty Bloodbolt Whirl phases.
  2. Cleanse those with Pact of the Darkfallen if they’re too slow getting to the center.
  3. Pop the big heals and CDs when Lana’thel does her air phase thing.

DPS Do’s:

  1. Got bitten? You’re a vampire now! Bite your assigned bud when it’s time (don’t be late!)
  2. Move out when there’s purple fire on the ground.
  3. Ranged pals: Keep your distance to minimize splash damage.

That’s the rundown!

Valithria Dreamwalker

Icc 25 Boss Guide

Valithria‘s not just any dragon, but the boss of Icecrown Citadel we gotta save! Instead of smacking a boss, the entire raid’s healing her up. Healers, you’re on Valithria-watch. The rest of the gang, fend off the baddies throughout the fight! To defeat the lich king you should pass through this boss, too… To be honest, to defeat the lick king, you should pass through all the lich king’s power servants.

The Baddies and Their Shenanigans:

  1. Blazing Skeleton (350k HP) – Not the type you want at your party. These boneheads have a Lay Waste trick that’s inflicting shadow damage to the entire raid. Melee DPS, these guys are top priority.
  2. Suppresser (151k HP) – They’re trying to pull off the Suppression move on Valithria. Squash ’em before they reach her!
  3. Risen Archmage (390k HP) – Watch for their Frostbolt Volley. Interrupt it, and ranged damage dealers should focus them down.
  4. Blistering Zombie (302k HP) – They’re dealing massive damage with their Acid Burst. Make sure to move away when they go kaboom!
  5. Gluttonous Abomination (1.3M HP) – Big ol’ meatball that off-tanks should handle. Oh, and they spawn Rot Worms. Ew.

Tank Tactics:

  1. Main focus is those Gluttonous Abominations. Off-tank, that’s your cue! Always face them away from the raid.
  2. Melee attacks from Blistering Zombies hurt. Give ’em a slap, but don’t hug ’em.

Healer Hints:

  1. Jump into the Nightmare Portal Valithria drops. Grab that Emerald Vigor and supercharge your healing!
  2. During phase 1, keep a couple healers out to manage raid damage. Others, hop in those portals!

DPS Do’s:

  1. Melee DPS, prioritize: Blazing Skeleton > Suppresser > Risen Archmage > Blistering Zombie. Ranged damage dealers, keep those Archmages in check.
  2. Everyone, if you see someone summoning dark nucleus, take ’em out fast! AOE damage abilities are gonna shine here.
  3. Watch those Zombies. If they’re about to pop, move away.

In Short:
Heal our dragon buddy, fend off the baddies, and watch those portals.

Sindragosa

Wotlk Icecrown Citadel 25 Guide

Sindragosa, the boss of Icecrown Citadel, is your level 83 drama queen dragon. With various health amounts, she’s the big blockade before the Lich King. It’s a two-phase dance with a sprinkle of aerial diva behavior. This boss encounter will test the entire raid’s coordination.

The Icy Toolkit:

  1. Cleave & Tail Smash: Watch out melee DPS, Sindy’s got moves! Stay away from her front and back; instead, opt for her side to dodge these melee attacks.
  2. Frost Aura: This cold aura will trouble the entire raid throughout the fight. Healers, you’re gonna have to hustle!
  3. Frost Breath: Tanks and off-tanks, this one’s for you. Every 20 seconds, she’s blowing this chilly wind. Make sure to pop those defensive cooldowns.

Tank Tactics:

  • First things first, main tank, make sure you position this boss at the edge of the platform.
  • Got Frost Breath coming? Ensure you’ve got frost resist and ready those cooldowns. An off-tank might be handy to swap when needed, especially during phase 1.
  • The entire raid’s depending on you to position her right. Keep her away from the raid and on her toes!

Healer Heads-up:

  • Frost Aura is like that annoying level 80 gnome that won’t go away. It’s gonna tick on the raid throughout the fight.
  • Any raid member with Unchained Magic is a ticking time bomb. Time those heals right to avoid massive damage.

DPS Do’s and Don’ts:

  • Melee DPS, those Chilled to the Bone stacks are your enemy. Keep an eye out and don’t let them stack every 2 seconds for too long.
  • Ranged damage dealers, spread out when Unchained Magic hits the fan. Your positioning is vital. Maybe even assign ranged DPS specific spots.
  • Got an Ice Tomb? Remember, they’re not just obstacles; they’re shields. Don’t be that guy who breaks them too early.

Quick Tips:

  • Entire raid, when she does that Icy Grip move, remember the motto: move away, move away, move away! And when you think you’re safe, move a little more just in case.
  • Keep a sharp eye on raid damage, especially with Frost Aura doing its thing.

The Lich King

Icecrown Citadel Wotlk Bosses

Oh, man, the Lich King! Who can forget Arthas Menethil chilling (literally) in Icecrown Citadel? That dude turned from a promising young prince to the icy overlord of the Scourge. Picture this: massive winter storm outside, and there he is, ready to summon dark nucleus, inflict shadow damage, and dish out some serious pain to anyone brave (or foolish) enough to face him. Just, you know, maybe bring some friends… and a warm coat.

How Do I Get To Icecrown Citadel

Oh man, when you’re trying to defeat the Lich King, it’s a real roller-coaster! First, he’s there, chilling in the middle of a massive winter storm, and bam! 30 seconds in, he’s already trying to summon a dark nucleus and raging spirits. And don’t get me started on phase 1.5; that summon raging spirit is a nightmare! You’re there with your squad, and suddenly, in just 10 seconds, three random party members are targeted, and you’re scrambling to defend them and the other nearby party members. Oh, and Darion Mograine? He’s shouting out warnings while you’re trying to dodge the deadly plague, which can jump 5 times between infected party members. Every attack, every bit of damage dealt, even the Lich King’s physical damage, it’s all amped up! Phase 2.5 is no joke, and it feels like a full 2 minutes of pure chaos, with a 60 seconds hell, and increasing Arthas attack speed to infinity. And if you’re in melee range, brace yourself for some real pain. But hey, that’s the natural raid progression, right? Good luck, and watch out for that shadow damage!

Icecrown Citadel World Of Warcraft

Ok, but first things, goes first.

Foundamental mechanics

Icecrown Citadel Wing

Lich King’s battle is quite the spectacle. Let’s dive into the main mechanics of this chilly dude’s fight, Arthas-style:

  1. Phase 1: Let’s Break the Ice!
    • Infest: You get a debuff, you get a debuff, everyone gets a debuff! Over time, if your health drops too low, this baby ticks harder and harder. So, healers? Keep everyone topped up!
    • Summon Drudge Ghouls and Summon Shambling Horror: Arthas’s entourage. Not the kind you want autographs from. Kill ’em before they overwhelm you.
    • Necrotic Plague: The game of hot potato begins! This is a disease you actually want to spread… but strategically. Pass it between players and let it jump to his minions for maximum effectiveness.
  2. Transition Phase 1.5: Ice-skating, Anyone?
    • Remorseless Winter: Arthas turns the arena into an icy disco. Avoid the edges and the spinning balls of doom he summons.
    • Summon Raging Spirit: These guys will pop out and focus someone down. Protect your friends and give these spirits a quick trip to the afterlife.
  3. Phase 2: Defiled Ground & Flying Babes!
    • Defile: Arthas doesn’t like clean floors, so he makes a growing puddle of shadow. Don’t stand in it. Ever. It grows when you do.
    • Summon Val’kyr Shadowguard: These ladies will lift you and try to drop you off the edge. It’s not the scenic tour you’d hope for, so burn them down before they toss you off!
  4. Transition Phase 2.5: Return of the Frosty Disco!
    • A repeat of Phase 1.5 but with the added joy of Vile Spirits. Floating heads that want to explode on you. Kite them, avoid them, and maybe write a stern letter about personal space.
  5. Phase 3: Soul Searching and Explosions
    • Harvest Soul: Someone gets dragged into Frostmourne for a face-to-face with old memories and Terenas Menethil II. Inside, help Terenas heal and defeat the Spirit Warden. Outside? Survive and prepare for Arthas’s next move.
    • Vile Spirits keep coming: Yep, those explodey heads are back. Deal with them ASAP.
  6. Endgame: Fury of Frostmourne
    • Arthas has had enough of you. He’ll try to end it all with a big ol’ smackdown. Spoiler: He might succeed. But that’s just part of the story.

And there you have it, the grand showdown with the icy monarch himself! Whether you’re there to dethrone him or just want to survive the cold, this fight’s one for the ages.

Main abilities

Icecrown Citadel Bosses

Alright! The Lich King, Arthas Menethil, has a collection of abilities that can give any adventurer a run for their gold. Let’s take a gander:

  1. Infest: Oh boy, he loves this one. He’ll just casually toss this at your group, and the longer you let it sit, the more damage it’ll deal. A healer’s nightmare!
  2. Summon Drudge Ghouls: Arthas is never alone, and with this, he summons a pack of buddies. More like cannon fodder if you ask me, but don’t underestimate them!
  3. Summon Shambling Horror: As if the ghouls weren’t enough, he brings out the big guns with this ability. These guys hit hard and have some nasty abilities themselves.
  4. Necrotic Plague: It’s like he’s giving you a deadly cold. This plague jumps from player to player, and each jump makes it stronger. Better pass it around quickly or things get dicey!
  5. Pain and Suffering: I mean, it’s in the name. This one’s a pain (pun intended). It’s a nasty shadow damage over time.
  6. Defile: Stand in bad, get dead. Seriously, this shadowy pool grows with each tick, so you better move your boots out of it ASAP!
  7. Remorseless Winter: It’s a massive skill, which grants AoE damage abilities that literally turns his platform into a skating rink of doom. Dancing skills required!
  8. Summon Raging Spirit: More friends! These remaining raging spirits are keen on making your life miserable. You better deal with them swiftly less than in 15 seconds, or the 10 hp will be all you have for your target and surrounding allies.
  9. Quake: Like a toddler throwing a tantrum, Arthas shakes the ground. Just… more deadly.
  10. Soul Reaper: This one? Ouch. If you’re his target, you’ll want those healers on their A-game. It’s a ticking time bomb of damage.
  11. Harvest Soul: This is where he tries to yank a player into Frostmourne to have a ‘chat’. It’s less tea and cookies and more survival of the fittest.
  12. Summon Val’kyr Shadowguard: These flying gals? Their main goal is to grab you and take you off the platform. Not for a scenic flight, mind you, but to drop you to your doom!
  13. Vile Spirits: Floating heads that explode on contact. It’s like a bad fireworks show, and you’re the main attraction.
  14. Fury of Frostmourne: When he gets REALLY mad? He uses this. And trust me, it’s not a pretty sight.

Tank

  • Necrotic Plague: You’ll need to manage this carefully. Let it stack a bit, then pass it off to a minion or another tank, depending on your strategy.
  • Soul Reaper: This one’s a stinger! When Arthas casts this on you, it’s time for cooldowns and extra love from your healers.
  • Raging Spirits during transitions: Grab ’em quickly! They pack a punch and will wreak havoc on your raid if left unchecked.
  • Taunt-swaps: Arthas hits like a truck, especially as the fight goes on. Work with your co-tank to swap when things get dicey or when mechanics demand.

Heal

  1.  Infest: You know the drill, the lower a player’s health, the harder it hits. Keep those HP bars shiny and high to reduce the damage. No slacking!
  2.  Necrotic Plague: It’s like playing ‘whack-a-mole’, but with diseases. Dispel it when it’s strategic to let it jump, especially to undead adds. But keep an eye out, don’t let it overwhelm the raid!
  3.  Defile: Some folks just love to stand in bad. Be ready for spike damage if someone doesn’t step out fast enough.
  4. Inside Frostmourne: If you get pulled in, your priority is to keep Terenas Menethil II alive. He’s the MVP in there.

DPS

Adds: Between Drudge Ghouls, Shambling Horrors, and Raging Spirits, you’re going to be busy. Prioritize, and burn them down.

Val’kyr Shadowguards: These ladies are top priority! They’re trying to play catch with your teammates, off the edge. Not cool. Kill them ASAP.

Vile Spirits: They’re like floating pinatas, but instead of candy, they explode. Kite, damage, and ensure they don’t reach the raid.

Defile: If you get targeted, make some distance and place it well away from the group. Your healers will thank you.

How to earn Glory of IceCrown citadel achievement

Icecrown Citadel Bosses

Hey guys, conquering the Lich King is cool and all, but why stop there? If you really want to flex your Icecrown prowess, let’s aim for that shiny “Glory of the Icecrown Raider” achievement! Ready to spice up those boss fights? Let’s dive in starting with our bony friend, Lord Marrowgar! Oh, almost forget. If you need maximally concentrated guide in how to earn the glory of the icecrown raider you can get it by the link.

Lord Marrowgar: Boned

Tactic: Defeat Lord Marrowgar without any raid member remaining impaled for more than 8 seconds. Break out players from Bone Spike Graveyard ASAP.

2. Lady Deathwhisper: Full House

Yo, team! For this boss, it’s not just about knocking Lady Deathwhisper’s health down to zero. We gotta juggle some adds too. Keep a colorful mix of her crazy cult fan club alive: Fanatics, Adherents, and whatever twisted forms they decide to turn into. Remember: it’s not a party without a full house!

3. Icecrown Gunship Battle: I’m on a Boat

Heads up, mateys! For this airborne showdown, don’t let anyone die while rocking that sweet Rocket Pack. That means, don’t be a hero and fly off into the sunset, only to plummet into the cold abyss below. Keep your boots (mostly) on the deck, blast the enemy ship, and save those cool aerial stunts for another day.

4. Deathbringer Saurfang: I’ve Gone and Made a Mess

Alright, gang! For big ol’ Saurfang Jr. here, we’ve gotta be a tiny bit messy. The deal is: defeat him before Mark of the Fallen Champion hits its fifth victim. This means we’ve gotta pump out the damage FAST. Put on those DPS shoes, and let’s show him how we roll.

5. Festergut: Dances with Oozes

Okay, squad, time for a jiggly waltz with Festergut! We need to take him out while there are still 3 living Gas Spores. So, let those lovely spore balloons spawn and keep ’em alive while we bash the big bloated guy. Easy-peasy, right?

6. Rotface: Flu Shot Shortage

Rotface is up, and he thinks he’s got the nastiest flu around. Our job? Prove him wrong! Defeat him without anyone getting more than 2 stacks of Inoculated. Spread out, dodge the oozes, and let’s show this slimeball what’s what!

7. Professor Putricide: Nausea, Heartburn, Indigestion…

Alright, science nerds, here comes the mad Professor! We gotta defeat him while under the effects of 4 unique potions. So, before kicking his butt, make sure to take a sip from all the different vats around the room. Bottoms up!

8. Blood Prince Council: The Orb Whisperer

Gather ’round, team! For this trio of vampiric nobles, we gotta keep it cool. The goal is to defeat them without anyone in the raid taking more than 25k spell damage in a single hit. So, keep an eye on those shiny Dark Nuclei orbs, and make sure they don’t supercharge the princes too much!

9. Blood-Queen Lana’thel: Once Bitten, Twice Shy (10/25 player)

Alright, lovebirds! This one’s a two-parter:

  • First, take down Lana’thel without becoming a vampire. No neck biting!
  • Next time, let her give you the good ol’ vampiric smooch with Essence of the Blood Queen and then finish her off. Embrace your inner Dracula for a bit!

10. Valithria Dreamwalker: Portal Jockey

Healers, you’re the MVPs here! We need to keep the big green dragon up while closing at least 20 Nightmare Portals. So, while the DPS and tanks handle the mobs, healers need to dive into those portals and shut ’em down. Remember, more portals, more glory!

11. SindragosAll You Can Eat (10/25 player)

Hey, ice queen alert! For Sindragosa, no one should get more than 5 stacks of Mystic Buffet. This is a game of magic debuff hot potato, so run out when you’re about to hit that sixth stack. It’s a dietary challenge, folks!

12. The Lich King: Been Waiting a Long Time for This (10/25 player)

Listen up, this is the big one! We need to let Necrotic Plague stack up to at least 30 before we finish off Arthas. So pass that plague around like you’re sharing snacks, but carefully! Keep adds alive for it to jump to and watch those stacks grow.

Reward for Glory of ICceCrown citadel achievement

Ah, the sweet, sweet loot! Let’s talk rewards:

For 10-Man: Glory of the Icecrown Raider (10 player)

  • You get to strut around on the Bloodbathed Frostbrood Vanquisher, a wicked cool frost wyrm that says, “Yeah, I kicked the Lich King’s butt and all I got was this awesome dragon.”

For 25-Man: Glory of the Icecrown Raider (25 player)

  • You’ll be flying high on the Icebound Frostbrood Vanquisher, the icy-blue sibling of the 10-man mount. Because nothing says “I’m a big deal” like riding a frozen undead dragon, am I right?

Either way, you’re gonna look like an absolute legend cruising around Azeroth.

To get the Reins of Invincible…the ultimate trophy mount that screams, “I conquered Icecrown Citadel and all I got was this legendary undead horse.

To be honest, there’s nothing special you haven’t to except, defeating the lich king in the hardest of possible difficulties. There’s only one limitation, and it’s called the drop. Only one player per-run can get the reins of invincible, so or you have at least 25 different guilds, which are able you to play with them, and close lich king 25 times a week, and ask for each time for drop the mount… or just suffer, and wait 25 weeks, until you’ll get the mount.
