Stygia is an unusual currency used specifically in the Maw for purchasing various commodities from Ve’nari. We say unusual because it is a byproduct coming from a horrid process of the soul’s violent destruction.
Nonetheless, Ve’nari will accept it and will open the doors of its merchant store in exchange for Stygia. Ve’nari becomes available after your first descend to the Maw which will happen right after you choose your Covenant. Afterward, you will need to acquire and use Stygia for any purchase you wish to make from Ve’nari.
Having said that, Stygia poses as an important resource that makes a difference in your hero’s development. With it, you can purchase sockets for hero’s gear, permanent upgrades, or rare legendaries with a couple of exclusive items.
Let’s cut to the chase and shed light on acquiring enough Stygia for all those cool stuff Ve’nari sells.
Stygia mechanics
The simplest source of Stygia is killing mobs you encounter in the Maw. Although this seems easy, it actually isn’t, because it requires you to constantly gauge two things.
First, you’ll need to determine which mobs are most profitable Stygia-wise and devise a basic strategy to hunt them down. Second, you’ll need to keep away from The Eye as it will monitor every activity you do in The Maw. Furthermore, there are 5 levels on the attention scale, and moving up the ladder will bring more of his torments upon you.
Jailer will torment you by placing and playing with two debuffs over you and those are:
- debuff that decreases healing ability by 10% per stack;
- debuff that decreases Stygia & Rep straight to zero.
These restraining debuffs will mark your downfall by ultimately draining your health and making all your looting efforts preposterous.
Back on point, capping level 5 of the Eye of the Jailer will leave 200 seconds to cash in on Stygia and Rep. Use this time to sneak in a few rares who are near Ve’nari and proceed to encash your Stygia. Now, let’s see how the levels of the Jailer’s torments.
The Eye of the Jailer scale
Level 1 – Will get Soulseekers to attack you.
Level 2 – Will make the Towers hostile to your hero and they’ll bomb you inflicting strong damage. Avoid them by moving away from the swirls that will form below you.
Level 3 – Jailer sends his assassins to hunt you down inflicting Shadow damage and adding attention points
Level 4 –Makes Stygian Abductors abduct you by lifting you up while causing damage and adding points to attention scale. Kill them fast to prevent them using a deadly strike to mutilate your hero with enormous damage, hurling it down.
Level 5 – Gradually decreases your healing to -100% after which it drains life force out of your hero until it kills him. Now is the time to use those 200 seconds for cashing in Stygia. Besides, you will get prohibited to loot any more Stygia or get Rep for the whole day.
Now that we are familiar with Stygia mechanics, let’s show you ways to acquire this precious currency.
How to earn Stygia
Finally, let’s cover all the ways to successfully farm Stygia.
Killing mobs
The best way to get Stygia is slaying mobs and the types that drop more Stygia, draw more attention. High levels of this unwanted attention skyrockets torments over you and if it hits the ceiling your demise begins.
Next, normal and regular elite mobs will drop 1 Stygia and get the least attention from the Jailer. Defeating a rare from a special event nets 45 Stygia with more attention raised. Ultimately, slaying minors and majors gives 75 Stygia with varied levels on the attention meter — minors 300, majors 500 points.
Earning Stygia from quests
Doing daily and weekly quests are a great stream of Stygia, giving 140 and 425 of it respectively. However, dailies and weeklies also fill the attention meter with 500/1000 points respectively.
Nonetheless, the soul well event happening daily will give 105 Stygia with only 100 eye points, making it the best balanced source.
Similarly, completing Perdition / Beastwarrens weekly quest allows you to rake in 700 Stygia and 1000 eye points. It’s pretty risky but well worth the effort considering your eye points.
Wrath of the Jailer & Beaswarrens event
This event appears once every hour and you should reap its abundant benefits weekly. When you defeat the event’s boss expect a reward of 100 Stygia and 500 points on attention scale. We recommend doing a group play to defeat it and he can also drop level 183 legendary items.
After unlocking Beastwarrens feel free to do Hunts which reward 300 Stygia and 1000 eye points. For that, send the Beastwarren’s boss to the grave and claim your victory. This strategy is far more profitable than the previous event.
Final words
These are the most efficient methods for earning Stygia and here is some final advice.
Assess the risk carefully while balancing your strategy in terms of Stygia vs The Eye’s points. Doing dailies and weeklies is a priority, following with other specific events. Next in line is killing mostly minor rares coupled with majors/common ones here and there.
Not to forget, calculate farming efficiency of activity by dividing Stygia obtained from it with the attention points. That way you will have numbers working in your favor, showing you how to prioritize your activities in the Maw.
