Shatter skate in Destiny 2 is a Hunter Stasis movement tech: swing an Eager Edge sword with a heavy attack off an edge, then press jump and Shatterdive in quick succession before you leave that edge. The three inputs go heavy attack, jump, Shatterdive, fast enough that they read as one motion. The Hunter version still works and has not been patched.

The input sequence

  1. Equip an Eager Edge sword. The perk is required for skating.
  2. Run off an edge and use a heavy attack with the sword.
  3. Before you leave the edge, press jump.
  4. Immediately follow the jump with Shatterdive.

The timing is the whole trick: heavy attack, jump, Shatterdive in quick succession, and you land it every time once the rhythm is down. Too slow and you Shatterdive straight into the ground.

Controller setup

On console, bind Shatterdive to a single button press — something short and simple. One player put it on the sit emote button, on the logic that you never emote in the air and never Shatterdive on the ground.

Players also report that binding your Super to a d-pad direction or R1 makes the fast input timing easier for both shatter and well skating. Turn auto-melee off: leaving it on is a common reason the technique fails.

Practice in a private match until the inputs are consistent; most players say it works manually without a macro.

Sword and gear

Eager Edge is the only hard requirement. Vortex frame swords such as THE SLAMMER (ADEPT) can carry you further than adaptive frames, at the cost of ammo.

Stompees help you hold momentum longer after the launch. No specific Exotic armor piece is mandatory, but the sword perk makes the biggest difference.

Hunter vs Warlock

Shatter skate is the Hunter version, built on Stasis Shatterdive. For Warlocks, the counterpart is well skating: it relies on Well of Radiance, and its timing is stricter — Super activation and the jump must occur precisely at that moment within the heavy attack animation. Both use Eager Edge swords. Players say shatter skating is easier to learn than well skating.

Is it patched?

The Hunter shatter skate has not been patched. Bungie has called the similar Warlock Snap Skating an "unintended movement technique" and plans to address it, but that statement covers Snap Skating, not shatter skating. When the technique fails, players usually trace it to auto-melee being on or to timing, not to a patch.

Opinion in the community is split, with some treating it as fun movement and others wanting it removed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does shatter skate need a macro?

No. Most players do it manually with practice, though some use macros for consistency.

Why does my shatter skate fail?

The usual culprits are auto-melee being enabled and input timing that is too slow.

Can I shatter skate on console?

Yes. Bind Shatterdive to a single button and practice the same three inputs.
