The Hothead is a Legendary Arc Rocket Launcher with an Adaptive Frame, sitting in the Heavy slot. It’s a Nightfall weapon that can also drop as The Hothead (Adept) from Grandmaster Nightfalls, giving access to Adept Mods and extra stat value.
You get The Hothead by completing Nightfall strikes during weeks when The Hothead is the featured Nightfall weapon. After you obtain your first copy from a Nightfall drop, it can also appear via Vanguard focusing / legacy focusing at Zavala, depending on the current system, at the cost of Vanguard Engrams and other ritual currency.
For heavy rounds, yes. Rocket Launchers remain one of the strongest heavy options in PvP, and The Hothead can be tuned for high blast radius and fast projectile speed. A PvP setup with Volatile Launch + Black Powder + Impulse Amplifier catches enemies who think they are safe outside the impact zone, while Explosive Light punishes teams that leave Orbs uncollected. It’s limited by heavy ammo spawns, but when you pick up heavy, The Hothead converts bricks into reliable kills.
Yes. The Hothead is still a reliable PvE DPS option for raids, dungeons, and high-tier Nightfalls. Rolls with Impact Casing + Auto-Loading Holster / Field Prep + Explosive Light or Lasting Impression deliver strong boss damage while giving you either more rockets per mag, better reserves, or safer “fire and swap” rotations. It may not be the absolute top rocket in every meta patch, but it remains a very solid, widely recommended heavy choice.
The Hothead (Adept) is earned from Grandmaster Nightfalls when The Hothead is the weekly featured weapon. Adept variants roll with extra perk options, gain more stats when masterworked, and can use Adept Mods, which is why most endgame players prefer Adept if they’re committing to a full DPS setup.
No. The Hothead and The Hothead (Adept) are drop-only weapons; there is no pattern or crafting path. If you want a specific roll, you need to farm Nightfalls/Grandmasters or use any available Vanguard focusing.
