How to get Necrochasm

This guide to Necrochasm in Destiny 2 walks the quest in order.

1. Pick up the quest from the Spoils vendor at the end of Crota's End.
2. Take Husk of the Pit and its quest. Players who cleared the raid on contest mode within 48 hours of release already received Necrochasm, Husk of the Pit, Eidolon Ally and the catalyst quest automatically.
3. Kill 100 Hive anywhere with Husk of the Pit; kills inside the raid grant bonus progress.
4. That awards Eidolon Ally and unlocks the next step, which requires 20 Essence of the Oversoul.
5. Turning in the Essence awards Necrochasm.

Necrochasm needs a free-to-play account. Raid Exotics have an estimated base drop rate of around 5%, but a quest Exotic like Necrochasm is effectively a 100% drop once you finish the quest.

How to farm Essence of the Oversoul

• First full clear each week: two Essences of the Oversoul.
• Later full clears that week: one additional Essence each.
• Repeated encounters: a random chance at Essence.
• Killing Crota during a full run: a small chance to grant all the Essence needed for both the weapon and the catalyst at once.
• Raid triumphs: they improve the drop rate but will not hand over all the Essence required.

Update 7.2.0.4 increased Essence of the Oversoul drop rates across the board.

How to get the Necrochasm catalyst

The catalyst comes from the same Bottomless Pit quest and unlocks after 35 Essence of the Oversoul in total, 15 beyond the weapon's 20, with no combatant defeats needed.

Update 8.0.0.1 rebuilt the catalyst, replacing Outlaw with One for Thrall: damaging 3 combatants in quick succession provides a period of increased damage, range, and aim assist. The same update also gave the intrinsic perk increased reload speed after precision kills.

Necrochasm perks and stats

• Cursebringer: precision final blows with the weapon trigger a Cursed Thrall explosion, and final blows with those explosions refill the magazine.
• Desperation: reloading after a precision final blow or a final blow with a Cursed Thrall explosion increases rate of fire and improves stability and aim assist.
• Intrinsic reload: the intrinsic perk provides increased reload speed after precision kills.
• Cursed Thrall explosion burn: it lasts 3.5 seconds against combatants, up from 2.
• Necrotic Grip: the Warlock gauntlets enable a hidden interaction that chains Cursed Thrall explosions to surrounding enemies.
• Curated roll: Arrowhead Brake and Ricochet Rounds fill the barrel and magazine slots.

Necrochasm is a Rapid-Fire Frame auto rifle in the Kinetic slot with Primary ammo, introduced in Season 22.

Is Necrochasm good?

Necrochasm is A-tier for PvE and B-tier for PvP. It is an add-clearing weapon that can set off a chain reaction of constant explosions. What holds it back is its lack of synergy with any subclass, which makes it hard to work into a build. Since its Cursed Thrall explosions were buffed by around 30%, it has been steadily rising toward the top of the meta.
