The Destiny 2 Renegades mission list is short: the campaign has six main missions, and you unlock each one by advancing the Renegades quest rather than by meeting a separate requirement. That quest runs 58 steps (Part 1 has 13 steps and Part 2 has 45 steps), so the step you are on is the clearest gauge of how far you have left. Expect roughly five to six hours for the story, with Lawless Frontier runs and the Fire and Ice Exotic mission slotted between the main missions.
All Renegades campaign missions
The six main missions, in campaign order, are:
- Imperium
- Welcome to the Frontier
- Fearsome Retainer
- Out in the Cold
- The Long Con
- Glory Beyond
How to access each mission
Access is tied to the Renegades questline, not to a separate unlock. The quest walks you through Cantina conversations, Jobs on Mars and Venus, and story missions in sequence.
| Mission | Quest step that starts it | Notes |
| Imperium | Campaign opening | The campaign's first mission |
| Welcome to the Frontier | Step 11 | The second story mission |
| Fearsome Retainer | Step 10 | Follows Jobs on Mars and Venus |
| Out in the Cold | Step 28 | Beacons and walkers |
| The Long Con | Step 41 | After the Praxic Temple visit |
| Glory Beyond | Step 44 | Near the end of the quest |
Lawless Frontier activities sit between Imperium and Fearsome Retainer, and again before Out in the Cold. Fire and Ice, the Exotic mission that drops your Praxic Blade, lands on step 33 of the Renegades quest.
What happens in each mission
Imperium opens the campaign. Welcome to the Frontier is the second main mission, and Fearsome Retainer is the third, reached after you aid the Syndicates with Jobs on Mars and Venus to recover stolen keycard caches. Out in the Cold has you place three sensor beacons around an enemy base while indestructible Behemoth walkers patrol; later you use a Strand gun to break walker shields and fire Strand needles, and walkers only count toward the mission total if you kill them with that weapon. The Long Con follows your visit to the Praxic Temple with Aunor. Glory Beyond is the final push against Dredgen Bael, where the Praxic Blade you unlock late in the campaign comes into play.
Renegades campaign difficulty
Renegades campaign story missions are launched on Normal (Be Brave) or Legendary (Become Legend) difficulty, while Lawless Frontier Jobs default to Normal and can be set to Expert when launching for greater rewards. Completing Jobs on either difficulty does not affect Legendary campaign completion triumphs.
Renegades campaign bugs to know
In the Imperium mission, the jammer in the trash compactor cannot be destroyed with Anti-Barrier weapons, so bring non-Anti-Barrier weapons to progress. If Out in the Cold loads with no waypoints or instructions, restart the game; it may take several reloads before the quest loads correctly. If you are progressing the campaign in a fireteam, avoid joining missions in progress or swapping characters mid-campaign so your progress records correctly.
If you would rather not work through the campaign and its Lawless Frontier runs yourself, the Destiny 2 Renegades Campaign Boost has a team clear the story missions on your account. For the wider systems behind the expansion, see the Destiny 2 Renegades guide.
