The Diablo 4 Spirit runeword is crafted in the Horadric Cube by combining a Common white base item with four lower-ladder runes: Tal, Thul, Ort, and Amn. It creates a Unique-tier item granting +5 to All Skills, Attack Speed, Maximum Resource, Impairment Reduction, and a weapon-or-shield conditional bonus. Players can equip Spirit starting at level 25 across several one-handed and off-hand weapon types.

Spirit runeword recipe and base items

Crafting Spirit requires the Horadric Cube, unlocked by playing through the Lord of Hatred campaign. Place four specific runes and an eligible white item inside the cube:

  • Tal
  • Thul
  • Ort
  • Amn
  • 1 Common (white) compatible base item

Spirit accepts ten base item types: Axe, Dagger, Flail, Focus, Mace, Scythe, Shield, Sword, Totem, and Wand. The base item must be Common white quality, as runewords cannot be made in the Horadric Cube using Magic, Rare, or Legendary items.

Socket counts do not matter on the base gear, meaning unsocketed items work without modification. Using an Ancestral Common base produces an Ancestral runeword variant with higher Item Power and potential Greater Affixes. Once assembled in the cube, clicking Transmute converts the components into the finished item.

Spirit stats and item affixes

Spirit functions as a Unique-quality item with set affixes. It can be tempered, and players can enchant, socket, and recycle it like ordinary items. The ability to enchant runewords gives them extra flexibility, value some players appreciate.

  • +5 to All Skills
  • +[25.0 – 35.0]% Attack Speed
  • +[20 – 56] Maximum Resource
  • 50% Impairment Reduction
  • +50% Damage on weapons
  • Maximum Life on shields

Classes able to equip the sword variant include the Sorcerer, Druid, Barbarian, Rogue, Necromancer, Paladin, and Warlock.

Rune ladder upgrades for Spirit

All four runes required for Spirit sit on the lower rune ladder. If you lack raw drops, lower runes can be upgraded inside the Horadric Cube using fixed conversion rates:

InputOutput
3 × IthTal
3 × RalOrt
3 × OrtThul
3 × Thul + Chipped TopazAmn

Runes also drop across various Season 15 endgame activities, with targeted yields available from Kurast Undercity runs using a Greater Tribute of Harmony. If you want to plan out higher-tier crafts, consult our guide on how to make Ber Rune in Diablo 4.

Runewords serve as premier leveling options, with players calling them amazing early gear. Some players express concern that these seasonal runewords might not remain craftable in the Eternal realm.
