Battle for Mount Hyjal opened on August 27, 2026, alongside Black Temple as one of the two Tier 6 raids in TBC Anniversary Phase 3. It doesn’t play like a normal raid. The first four bosses — Rage Winterchill, Anetheron, Kaz’rogal, and Azgalor — are each locked behind eight waves of trash, and a wipe on the trash or the boss resets that whole event. Archimonde skips the waves entirely and just punishes mistakes directly. Here’s what to have sorted before you walk in.

In this guide, we cover:

  • Mount Hyjal raid structure and where to find it
  • Hyjal trash waves, mob priorities, and trash farming value
  • Preparation for all five bosses
  • Archimonde, Tears of the Goddess, and Air Burst
  • Consumables, epic gems, and profession opportunities

Mount Hyjal Raid Quick Facts

  • 25-player, level 70 raid with five mandatory bosses, located in the Caverns of Time; progression is linear
  • Final boss: Archimonde
  • Rewards reputation with the Scale of the Sands, Mount Hyjal’s raid reputation faction
  • Epic gems can be mined inside Mount Hyjal at 375 Mining and also appear as rare drops in Black Temple
  • Tier 6 tokens drop here too: Azgalor drops Glove tokens and Archimonde drops Helm tokens — exchange them with Tydormu at the Hyjal entrance (see our Tier 6 Token Priority Guide for class priorities)
  • Loot ranges from item level 141 on regular boss/trash epics to 146 on Tier 6 pieces and 151 on Archimonde’s non-tier drops

Planning to clear both Tier 6 raids instead of stopping at Hyjal? Our TBC Anniversary All Phase 3 Raids Bundle covers all 14 Black Temple and Mount Hyjal bosses, both Phase 3 attunements, five guaranteed items, and the raid reputation earned along the way.

Where Is the Mount Hyjal Raid Entrance?

Tbc Anniversary Mount Hyjal Raid Guide: Survive 32 Waves &Amp; Beat Archimonde 13

Battle for Mount Hyjal is inside the Caverns of Time in Tanaris. Once inside the Caverns, follow the forested path past the Night Elf glaive throwers to reach the Hyjal Summit raid entrance.

How Mount Hyjal’s 32 Trash Waves Work

Rage Winterchill, Anetheron, Kaz’rogal, and Azgalor each sit behind eight waves of trash. A full wipe during those waves, or on the boss itself, resets the whole event — you’re back to wave one, not back to the boss attempt. That single rule shapes how you should approach the raid: a sloppy pull on wave six doesn’t cost you a boss try, it costs you the entire run-up again. Archimonde breaks the pattern. No waves precede him, but he doesn’t need them — one bad mechanic response is enough to end the night on its own.

If repeating all 32 waves while progressing five bosses isn’t how you want to spend your lockout, our TBC Anniversary Hyjal Summit Boost covers the full five-boss raid clear with opportunities for Tier 6 Gloves and Helm tokens plus ilvl 141–151 gear.

Mount Hyjal Trash Priority: What to Kill First

Tbc Anniversary Mount Hyjal Raid Guide: Survive 32 Waves &Amp; Beat Archimonde 14

The waves aren’t random — each is a fixed composition of the same handful of mob types, repeated with escalating size. A few things make them go smoothly:

  • Establish tank threat before AoEing. Protection Paladins are particularly strong here, since Consecration holds large packs while ranged targets get pulled into the kill zone.
  • Necromancers get priority. They cast dangerous ranged Shadow spells and can cast Unholy Frenzy to double another mob’s attack speed, so interrupt, silence, or force them into melee before they get the chance.
  • Watch for Abominations. They can stun the tank while other mobs are already attacking, which is where damage spikes come from, and their Disease Cloud punishes stacking — split or kite large packs rather than balling them up.
  • Recover fast between waves. Res the dead and drink immediately — Hyjal runs on fixed wave timing, not the leisurely pace of normal trash.
  • Engineers can help too. Arcane Bombs silence clustered caster mobs and make it easier for tanks to pull ranged enemies into the AoE stack.
  • Later waves add new priorities. Banshee Curse cuts physical hit chance by 66% and should be decursed quickly; banshees also cast Anti-Magic Shell, so lean on physical DPS rather than spells to burn them down. Fel Stalkers should be controlled before repeated Mana Burns chew through healer and caster resources.
  • Bring flying mobs down cleanly. Gargoyles start airborne and can be pulled toward the ground by a ranged player holding threat; Frost Wyrms should be focused fast, since Frost Breath splashes roughly 8 yards and hits nearby players too.
  • Plan for Giant Infernals. Their Immolation aura stacks dangerous Fire damage when several are tanked together, so split them where needed or assign a Fire Resistance tank.
  • Use the faction camps on progression. Fighting waves inside the Alliance or Horde base lets Jaina, Thrall, and their guards contribute damage and gives the raid more recovery time between waves than aggressive spawn-camping.

Mount Hyjal Trash Farming: Hearts of Darkness, Rep & BoP Drops

Tbc Classic Phase 3 Mount Hyjal Guide: How To Clear Every Boss &Amp; Trash Wave
Tbc Anniversary Mount Hyjal Raid Guide: Survive 32 Waves &Amp; Beat Archimonde 15

Beyond clearing a path to the bosses, Hyjal trash has real standalone value — it can drop Hearts of Darkness, Marks of the Illidari, and a handful of valuable BoP epics, including Choker of Serrated Blades, Boots of the Divine Light, and Hammer of Judgement. Hearts of Darkness matter early in Phase 3 specifically because they feed into crafted gear and the Shadow Resistance sets you’ll want for Black Temple’s Mother Shahraz.

If those Hearts of Darkness are part of your Black Temple preparation, our TBC Anniversary Resist Gear Boost can handle the 170 Shadow Resistance set needed for the next stage of Phase 3 progression without making you source every piece yourself.

Organized groups can also repeatedly clear the early Rage Winterchill waves and reset the defense event before killing the boss, farming eligible trash for reputation, materials, and BoP drops outside a normal progression clear — a viable gold and reputation source on top of your weekly clear.

Mount Hyjal Boss Guide: Key Mechanics for All 5 Bosses

Mount Hyjal has five mandatory bosses in a fixed order: Rage Winterchill, Anetheron, Kaz’rogal, Azgalor, and Archimonde. The first four appear after eight trash waves each, while Archimonde is fought separately at Nordrassil. Here’s what matters most for every encounter.

Rage Winterchill Strategy: Icebolt, Death and Decay, and Frost Nova

Rage Winterchill is the first Mount Hyjal boss and mostly tests movement, dispels, and individual survival.

  • Icebolt hits a random player for heavy Frost damage, stuns them, and continues dealing damage while the stun lasts. A PvP trinket or Living Action Potion removes the stun and stops the remaining damage, making either one worth having ready for progression.
  • Death and Decay covers a large area and deals percentage-based damage, so move out immediately even if it means giving up DPS. Frost Nova can leave players rooted inside dangerous ground effects and should be dispelled quickly.
  • Melee should also account for Frost Armor, which applies Chilled and reduces both movement and attack speed. Free Action Potions can prevent that slowdown and help maintain uptime.
  • Rage Winterchill also matters outside Mount Hyjal progression. Players completing the Black Temple attunement quest An Artifact From the Past need to loot the Time-Phased Phylactery from him before continuing that chain.

Rage Winterchill is only one stop on the Black Temple access chain. If you’d rather have the remaining requirements handled as well, our TBC Anniversary Black Temple Attunement Boost completes the full chain and secures the Medallion of Karabor, so your character is ready to enter BT.

Anetheron Strategy: Carrion Swarm, Infernals, and Vampiric Aura

Anetheron puts much more pressure on healer positioning and add control.

  • Carrion Swarm reduces healing done by 75% on affected players, so healers should spread around the encounter rather than stacking together where one cast can cripple several of them at once.
  • Anetheron’s Vampiric Aura heals him for 300% of the melee damage he deals. Keep a healing-reduction effect such as Mortal Strike, Wound Poison, or Aimed Shot active throughout the fight.
  • Towering Infernals need to be picked up quickly and moved away from both the raid and Anetheron. Keeping them more than 25 yards from the boss also prevents Vampiric Aura from making their own melee attacks heal them.
  • A dedicated Infernal off-tank should prepare roughly 200–250 Fire Resistance plus strong Stamina. High-DPS raids can leave the Infernals on that tank and focus Anetheron, while slower groups may need to kill individual Infernals before too many accumulate.
  • Anetheron also periodically casts Sleep on random players. It cannot be dispelled or manually broken; taking damage wakes the target. Backup healing coverage is therefore more important than trying to cleanse it.

Kaz’rogal Strategy: Manage Mana or Explode

Kaz’rogal is primarily a mana-management check.

  • Mark of Kaz’rogal drains 600 mana per second for five seconds, for a total of 3,000 mana, and is cast more frequently as the fight continues. If a drain tick hits a player who does not have enough mana remaining, that player explodes and damages everyone within 15 yards.
  • Mana users should remain comfortably above 3,000 mana and use tools such as Super Mana Potions, Dark Runes, Mana Tide Totem, Innervate, and Shadowfiend proactively rather than waiting until their resource bar is nearly empty.
  • Kaz’rogal also casts Cripple, reducing movement speed, attack speed, and Strength. Normal dispels do not remove it, although abilities such as Blessing of Freedom and Cloak of Shadows can help.
  • His War Stomp stuns players within 15 yards, making Free Action Potions useful for melee and tanks. Malevolent Cleave splits its damage among targets caught in front of him, so a second tank can help soak it if the main tank is taking excessive damage.

Azgalor Strategy: Doom, Rain of Fire, and Howl

Azgalor revolves around planned deaths, Doomguard control, and keeping healers functional through repeated silences.

  • Doom marks a random player and kills them after 20 seconds, spawning a Lesser Doomguard at their location. Establish a fixed Doom location and assign an off-tank or dedicated Doomguard team before the pull so these adds do not appear throughout the raid.
  • Keep that team away from the main group. Lesser Doomguards bring both War Stomp and Cripple, adding unnecessary crowd control if they are allowed into the raid stack.
  • Warlocks can prepare Soulstones for selected Doom targets, allowing those players to recover after the forced death without consuming a combat resurrection.
  • Howl of Azgalor is a Shadow-school raid-wide silence. Shadow Resistance can increase the chance to resist it, while healers should preload HoTs on the main tank before each cast. Improved Concentration Aura in a healer group can reduce the five-second silence to roughly 3.5 seconds.
  • Rain of Fire only targets players within 30 yards of Azgalor. Ranged DPS and healers who can operate beyond that distance should stay outside the targeting range, while melee need to move immediately when Rain of Fire lands near the boss.

Archimonde Strategy: Survive Doomfire, Fear, and Air Burst

Archimonde is Mount Hyjal’s final boss and the raid’s biggest personal-responsibility check. Raw DPS matters far less than keeping every player alive, because one death can quickly trigger several more.

  • Tears of the Goddess. Speak to Tyrande before the pull and make sure every player has this item keybound. Air Burst launches players high into the air, and Tears must be used shortly before landing. Activating them too early can let the slow-fall effect expire before you reach the ground.
  • Air Burst. The ability hits its target and everyone within roughly 13 yards. If you’re targeted, move away from nearby players before it goes off so you don’t launch multiple people at once.
  • Doomfire. Moving fire trails spawn near Archimonde and travel through the raid, dealing heavy Fire damage and applying a lingering burn. Give them plenty of room, especially before Fear. Being feared through Doomfire is one of the easiest ways to turn a clean pull into a wipe.
  • Fear. Archimonde regularly fears the entire raid. Tremor Totem should be part of the raid’s preparation, with PvP trinkets available as backup when positioning or timing goes wrong.
  • Grip of the Legion. This long-duration Shadow-damage curse needs to be removed quickly. Assign reliable decursers across the raid instead of relying on someone noticing it reactively.
  • Finger of Death. Archimonde only begins using this lethal ability when nobody remains in melee range. The main tank must maintain contact with the boss, including immediately after Fear or Air Burst disruptions.
  • Soul Charge. Every player death gives Archimonde a Soul Charge that can be unleashed as raid-wide damage with an additional class-dependent effect such as silence, mana loss, or increased physical damage taken. One preventable death can therefore trigger the next, making survival more valuable than squeezing out extra DPS.

Once Archimonde reaches 10% health, the encounter is effectively won. Tyrande grants the raid Protection of Elune, making players invulnerable while the wisps finish the fight.

  • Elixir of Demon Slaying: Especially strong during Hyjal’s demon-heavy later waves and bosses. Early sections contain plenty of Undead, though, so it isn’t a universal choice for the whole raid. Because it disappears on death, some progression groups prefer Flask of Relentless Assault for consistency between wipes.
  • Nightmare Seed: Keep one available for Archimonde as an emergency health buffer. Survival matters more than squeezing out extra DPS on a fight where one death can trigger a Soul Charge chain.
  • Mark of the Illidari flasks: These Shattrath flasks work in Mount Hyjal, SSC, TK, Black Temple, and later Sunwell content. Access requires Exalted with The Sha’tar, Cenarion Expedition, and either Aldor or Scryers. Our TBC Anniversary The Sha’tar Boost and TBC Anniversary Cenarion Expedition Boost can help finish those reputation requirements faster.

Still missing Exalted with your Shattrath faction? Our TBC Anniversary Aldor/Scryers Rep Items Boost delivers Fel Armaments or Arcane Tomes directly to your mailbox, letting you push Aldor or Scryers reputation without another reputation-farming session.

  • Epic Gems: Epic gems can be mined from nodes inside Mount Hyjal and also appear as rare drops in Black Temple, making them one of Phase 3’s most valuable new resources.
  • Jewelcrafting: Jewelcrafters need 375 skill to cut epic gems. Many designs are locked behind Scale of the Sands reputation with Indormi, while additional epic gem designs can drop from any Mount Hyjal boss. Our TBC Anniversary Jewelcrafting Boost can get you to 375 before demand peaks.

Need 375 Jewelcrafting before epic-gem demand takes off? Our TBC Anniversary Profession Kits Boost delivers the materials needed to level your selected profession up to 375, along with leveling instructions, without the usual gathering grind.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many bosses are in Mount Hyjal in TBC Anniversary?

Mount Hyjal has five mandatory bosses: Rage Winterchill, Anetheron, Kaz’rogal, Azgalor, and Archimonde. The raid follows a fixed, linear boss order.

How many trash waves are in Mount Hyjal?

The first four bosses are each preceded by eight fixed trash waves, for 32 waves in total. Archimonde is fought without a preceding wave event.

Do Mount Hyjal trash waves reset after a wipe?

Yes. Wiping during the trash waves or on the following boss resets that entire event back to wave one. This makes clean trash execution especially important during progression.

Where is the Mount Hyjal raid entrance in TBC?

The Mount Hyjal entrance is inside the Caverns of Time in Tanaris. Follow the forested path past the Night Elf glaive throwers to reach the Hyjal Summit portal.

What is the Mount Hyjal boss order?

The boss order is Rage Winterchill, Anetheron, Kaz’rogal, Azgalor, and finally Archimonde. The raid is linear, so bosses cannot be completed in a different order.

Does Archimonde have trash waves before him?

No. Archimonde does not have an eight-wave defense event before his encounter. Once you reach him, the challenge shifts entirely to executing his mechanics cleanly.

Which Tier 6 pieces drop in Mount Hyjal?

Azgalor drops Tier 6 Glove tokens, while Archimonde drops Tier 6 Helm tokens. The tokens are exchanged with Tydormu near the Mount Hyjal entrance.

What item level gear drops in Mount Hyjal?

Regular boss and trash epics are generally item level 141, Tier 6 pieces are item level 146, and Archimonde’s non-tier loot reaches item level 151.

What drops from Mount Hyjal trash?

Hyjal trash can drop Hearts of Darkness, Marks of the Illidari, reputation, and valuable BoP epics such as Choker of Serrated Blades, Boots of the Divine Light, and Hammer of Judgement.

Can you farm Mount Hyjal trash for Scale of the Sands reputation?

Yes. Eligible Mount Hyjal trash grants Scale of the Sands reputation, and organized groups can repeatedly clear early waves and reset the event for additional farming.

How do you farm Scale of the Sands reputation in Mount Hyjal?

Run the raid and kill eligible trash and bosses. Early Rage Winterchill wave resets can also be used by organized groups to farm additional reputation without completing the entire raid.

What Mount Hyjal trash mobs should you kill first?

Shadowy Necromancers are a major priority because of their ranged Shadow attacks and Unholy Frenzy. Later waves also make Banshees, Fel Stalkers, flying mobs, and Giant Infernals important targets depending on the composition.

How do you beat Rage Winterchill in TBC?

Move immediately out of Death and Decay, dispel Frost Nova quickly, and be ready to remove Icebolt’s stun and damage. PvP trinkets and Living Action Potions are especially useful for Icebolt.

How do you deal with Rage Winterchill’s Icebolt?

A PvP trinket or Living Action Potion can remove the Icebolt stun and stop its remaining periodic damage. Players should have one of those options ready before the pull.

How do you handle Anetheron’s Infernals and Carrion Swarm?

Spread healers so Carrion Swarm does not reduce the healing output of several at once. Pick up Towering Infernals quickly and tank them more than 25 yards away from Anetheron and the main raid.

How much Fire Resistance does the Anetheron Infernal tank need?

Around 200–250 Fire Resistance combined with strong Stamina is a useful target for a dedicated Infernal off-tank during progression.

How much mana do you need for Mark of Kaz’rogal?

Mark of Kaz’rogal drains 600 mana per second for five seconds, or 3,000 mana total. Mana users should stay comfortably above 3,000 and use recovery tools proactively.

How do you handle Doom on Azgalor?

Assign a fixed location for Doom targets and a dedicated tank or add team for the Lesser Doomguards that spawn when those players die. Prepared Soulstones can also help selected Doom targets recover afterward.

How do you use Tears of the Goddess for Archimonde’s Air Burst?

Pick up Tears of the Goddess from Tyrande before the fight and keybind it. After Air Burst launches you, activate Tears shortly before landing rather than immediately after being thrown into the air.

How do you survive Archimonde’s Doomfire, Fear, and Soul Charges?

Stay spread for Air Burst, avoid Doomfire trails, prepare Tremor Totems or PvP trinkets for Fear, and decurse Grip of the Legion quickly. Most importantly, avoid unnecessary deaths because every death gives Archimonde a Soul Charge that can trigger further raid damage.
