Open the Crucible node in the Director and select the Competitive Division playlist, then complete the seven placement matches to receive your starting Division. After that, every win awards Division points and every loss removes some, letting you climb from Copper through Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Adept and finally Ascendant.
Standard Crucible playlists use a mix of skill, connection, and team-size matchmaking, tuned per playlist. Competitive Division, however, is primarily rank-based, matching you by Division first and then using skill as a secondary factor, which is why matches there often feel tighter than in Quickplay.
Ranked Crucible is the Competitive Division playlist: a high-stakes 3v3 ladder where you progress through seven Divisions (Copper to Ascendant), each with three internal tiers. Promotion and relegation series apply around Adept and Ascendant, and your Division also controls how many times per week you can focus Competitive weapons like Rose, Mercurial Overreach, and newer reward guns.
The Competitive ladder runs from Copper III at 0 points up to Ascendant at the 15,000-point cap, with Ascendant III reached at 8,750 points and above. Hitting Ascendant III during eligible seasons unlocks The Great Pulse emblem, while pushing higher just increases your rating within the top Division.
Competitive Crucible drops powerful playlist weapons such as Belisarius-D, Deadlock, Mercurial Overreach, The Riposte, Solemn Remembrance and similar Comp-only guns. Higher Divisions increase how many times per week you can focus these weapons at Shaxx, so climbing to Ascendant gives the maximum number of focuses plus a stronger Crucible Rank bonus in other PvP playlists.
Yes. At the start of a new Episode/Season, your previous Division is soft-reset, and you run a fresh placement series to determine your new starting rank. Past rewards, such as emblems or weapons you’ve already earned, stay on your account, and each season introduces a new featured Competitive weapon to chase.
