Project Camelot & Classic Plus WoW: Everything We Know About the Rumored New Mode

“Classic Plus” is the community’s shorthand for a hypothetical version of Vanilla-style Warcraft Classic that keeps the original foundation but builds genuinely new content on top of it, rather than replaying old expansions. It’s not an official Blizzard product name.

The short answer

• Is Classic Plus officially confirmed? No.
• Is a real internal project called Project Camelot in active development? The build data and licensing strings say yes.
• Is it connected to WoW Classic? All the public evidence points that way.
• Is it the long-rumored “Classic Plus”? That’s the leading theory, but Blizzard hasn’t said so.
• Announced at BlizzCon on September 12–13, 2026? Plausible, not confirmed.

Rule of thumb: technical plausibility isn’t proof. Camelot claims only become more credible when they’re backed by evidence independent of the original leaker.

Blizzard’s Official Classic Plus Teases

Classic Plus speculation predates Camelot, but Blizzard’s clearest official signal came after Season of Discovery.

The strongest official breadcrumb came on May 27, 2025, when the Classic team confirmed work on its “next major project in the original WoW design space,” describing “found photographs” content in original Azeroth and carrying forward SoD’s lessons. Two later teases reinforced it: at the January 29, 2026 State of Azeroth, Holly Longdale told players they had more to look forward to, started to announce something, then said it would be saved for later. Blizzard’s 2025 Yearbook also said the team had gotten to work on the “long-term future of WoW Classic,” with plus signs drawn beside the text — real wording, but reading those as literally “Classic+” is interpretation, not confirmation.

Project Camelot Datamining: What We Actually Know

Version 1.60 first appeared internally in October 2025; datamining tied it to “Project Camelot” only in June 2026. Even before that link, the version number stood out — prior branches ran 1.13 (Era), 1.14 (Mastery), 1.15 (SoD), so 1.60 was a bigger jump than expected. “Camelot” is an internal name; nothing confirms it’s the eventual consumer-facing title.

Evidence this is real and substantial:

• Heroic/Epic licensing tiers tied to “World of Warcraft Camelot” surfaced, suggesting something more product-like than a disposable internal test.
• Vendor activity: the 1.60 branch briefly appeared on a vendor environment July 30 before returning internal; its purpose is unknown.
• Continued development: wowdev2 moved to 1.60.1.69141 on August 6, while wowdev5 also picked up the 1.60.0 build.
• Still encrypted: classes, zones, and systems remain hidden, so no leaked feature list has been verified against the client.

Two common overreads: nothing proves that “1.60” means a permanent level-60 cap, and Camelot using modern WoW architecture wouldn’t be unusual—Classic already runs on modern code with old game data layered on top.

Other Project Camelot Evidence and Signals

Josh Greenfield (Aggrend) shifted toward long-term Classic game design in early 2026, while several major Classic creators visited Blizzard HQ that May without disclosing why. Blizzard has also stepped up legal action against major private servers, including Turtle WoW and Ascension WoW, though ordinary IP enforcement is enough to explain that timing.

China-exclusive Titan Reforged is stronger contextual evidence: it remixes Vanilla, TBC, and Wrath raids into a custom progression with bespoke balancing. It doesn’t reveal Camelot’s contents, but it shows Blizzard is willing to treat Classic as something that can evolve rather than only be preserved.

Whether Camelot is seasonal or permanent remains unknown. Licensing tiers and continued builds make permanence plausible, not proven.

When Could WoW Classic Plus Actually Release?

Even a BlizzCon reveal wouldn’t settle the release date. Blizzard has precedent at both extremes: original WoW Classic was announced at BlizzCon 2017 and didn’t launch until August 2019, while SoD was revealed at BlizzCon 2023 and went live that same month. Camelot’s build activity makes a short turnaround conceivable, but no beta, PTR, or launch date has surfaced.

WoW Classic Plus Leaks: New Races, Classes, Zones, and More

This part is pure speculation. Three of the more detailed anonymous leaks are worth comparing — and they contradict each other:

• “Fisher King” (Jul. 15): Azeroth-only, no Outland; original talent system and 9 classes; Paladins/Shamans faction-locked; new races never seen in retail; no SoD runes; dual spec; slower, world-focused leveling.
• “October 13th” (Jul. 6): New zones, a PvP island, cross-faction combos like Dwarf Shaman and Tauren Paladin, new elf races, dungeons including a returning Karazhan Crypts, Scarlet Enclave as a raid, ranked PvP, a battle pass, and an Oct. 13, 2026 launch — barely a month after BlizzCon. Blizzard has precedent for both fast releases (SoD) and multi-year waits (original Classic), so timing alone can’t validate the date.
• “2025 Preview Build” (Jul. 13, since deleted): three new classes, selectable Gilneas, a new zone, new professions, modern UI features, and a built-in damage meter.

They can’t all be right. Fisher King keeps Paladins and Shamans faction-locked, while the “October 13th” leak allows Dwarf Shamans and Tauren Paladins; their race claims also conflict. Later posts mostly recycle the same ideas.

More importantly, many of these features were already public. Blizzard surveyed players about High Elves, Alliance Shamans, and new race/class combinations; a separate community survey showed strong demand for Dual Spec and Vanilla-style progression; Blizzard has already announced modern UI work for Classic, while Midnight publicly has a built-in damage meter. Matching known surveys, community preferences, or announced features isn’t corroboration.

“Infinite Classic” is another older anonymous rumor label with no backend evidence tying it to Camelot.

Could WoW Classic Plus Revive Cut Vanilla Content?

SoD already proved Blizzard can turn unfinished Vanilla ideas into real content: Karazhan Crypts became a level-60 dungeon, followed by the Scarlet Enclave raid. That fits Blizzard’s “found photographs” framing—expanding familiar old-Azeroth spaces rather than abandoning them. Community Classic Plus wishlists regularly point to Gilneas, Grim Batol, Dalaran, Timbermaw Hold, and cut race concepts such as Naga. None is confirmed for Camelot.

One leak claims Classic Plus diverges when players stop Lord Kazzak from opening the Dark Portal. It’s unverified, though the portal really was unfinished Vanilla design space: former designer Alexander Brazie described a scrapped server-wide Warlock event built around reopening it. That’s historical context, not Camelot evidence.

Watch continued wowdev2/wowdev5 activity, further vendor or licensing movement, the BlizzCon schedule (Sept. 12–13, 2026) for a dedicated Classic panel, and whether any leaked feature surfaces in real datamining.

Camelot itself rests on datamined builds and licensing data. Separately, Blizzard has repeatedly teased a major future for Classic and confirmed work on its next major project in the original WoW design space. What Camelot contains, whether it’s that project or officially becomes “Classic Plus,” and when it launches remain open questions. Treat every feature list as speculation until Blizzard confirms it or a claim gains independent support from decryptable client data or another reliable source.
