Updated October 30, 2026 for the run-up to the WoW Forever launch on November 4, 2026. Written from the beta; details can change at launch.
Level through your racial starting zone, combine nearby quest hubs through 30, then use the shared higher-level zones with dungeon quests along the way. This WoW Forever leveling guide prepares you for November 4, 2026 using beta-tested routes through 30 and provisional planning beyond that; testing ended October 23.
Starting zones and early zone level ranges
WoW Forever zone level ranges matter because enemies do not scale with your character. Use the following as recommended character-level routes, allowing for unfinished quests and overlapping zones.
| Race | Starting route | First mainland options |
| Human | Elwynn Forest, 1–10 | Westfall or Loch Modan, 10–15. |
| Dwarf or Gnome | Dun Morogh, 1–10 | Loch Modan or Westfall, 10–15. |
| Night Elf | Teldrassil, 1–11 | Darkshore or Westfall/Loch Modan, 11–19. |
| High Order Skyborne | Zephras Isle, 1–12 | Westfall or Loch Modan, 12–17. |
| Orc or Troll | Durotar, 1–10 | The Barrens or Silverpine Forest, 10–18. |
| Tauren | Mulgore, 1–10 | The Barrens or Silverpine Forest, 10–18. |
| Undead | Tirisfal Glades, 1–10 | Silverpine Forest or The Barrens, 10–15. |
| Windshaper Skyborne | Zephras Isle, 1–12 | The Barrens or Silverpine Forest, 12–15. |
Skyborne travel after Zephras Isle
In the beta route, Skyborne leave Valanaar by airship: High Order characters reach Dalaran, while Windshapers reach Skywatcher Plateau north of Thunder Bluff in Mulgore. High Order characters can continue through the portal to Stormwind before beginning mainland quests; Windshapers can descend toward Thunder Bluff and continue into The Barrens.
Do not treat arrival in Dalaran as a reason to begin its higher-level content immediately. The mainland routes above resume in lower-level questing zones.
Alliance route to level 30
Humans, Dwarves and Gnomes
After your starting zone, use these overlapping steps rather than trying to exhaust one zone at a time.
| Character levels | Questing options |
| 15–18 | Redridge Mountains or Darkshore. |
| 18–22 | Duskwood and Redridge Mountains. |
| 22–25 | Duskwood/Wetlands, or Stonetalon Mountains. |
| 25–30 | Duskwood/Wetlands, or Ashenvale. |
Sentinel Hill, Thelsamar and Auberdine serve the early questing steps; later hubs include Lakeshire, Darkshire and Menethil Harbor. Duskwood's focused route is 22–28, with most quests collected in Darkshire, while the Wetlands route concentrates on 27–31 around Menethil Harbor and Dun Modr.
Night Elves
| Character levels | Questing options |
| 19–22 | Ashenvale, or Duskwood/Redridge Mountains. |
| 22–25 | Stonetalon Mountains, or Duskwood/Wetlands. |
| 25–30 | Ashenvale/Stonetalon Mountains, or Wetlands/Redridge Mountains. |
Ashenvale's Alliance hub is Astranaar, and the mainland connection from Auberdine to Stormwind Harbor lets you switch to the Eastern Kingdoms route. For a concentrated Ashenvale itinerary, the Alliance route covers 19–29; its nearby dungeon is Blackfathom Deeps.
High Order Skyborne
| Character levels | Questing options |
| 17–20 | Redridge Mountains or Darkshore. |
| 20–25 | Duskwood, Wetlands and Stonetalon Mountains. |
| 25–30 | Duskwood/Ashenvale, or Wetlands/Redridge Mountains. |
Horde route to level 30
Orcs, Trolls and Tauren
| Character levels | Questing options |
| 18–22 | Stonetalon Mountains and The Barrens. |
| 22–25 | The Barrens/Ashenvale, or Hillsbrad Foothills. |
| 25–30 | Ashenvale/Thousand Needles, or Hillsbrad Foothills. |
The Barrens gives you quest hubs at the Crossroads, Ratchet and Camp Taurajo; Stonetalon's Horde hub is Sun Rock Retreat. In Ashenvale, collect quests and flight connections at Splintertree Post and Zoram'gar Outpost, then use Tarren Mill for Hillsbrad or Freewind Post for Thousand Needles.
Undead
| Character levels | Questing options |
| 15–22 | The Barrens and Stonetalon Mountains. |
| 22–25 | Hillsbrad Foothills, or The Barrens/Ashenvale. |
| 25–30 | Hillsbrad Foothills, or Ashenvale/Thousand Needles. |
The Sepulcher is your Silverpine quest hub before moving farther afield.
Windshaper Skyborne
| Character levels | Questing options |
| 15–22 | The Barrens and Stonetalon Mountains. |
| 22–25 | The Barrens/Ashenvale, or Hillsbrad Foothills. |
| 25–30 | Ashenvale/Thousand Needles, or Hillsbrad Foothills. |
The beta quest Exploring the Horde includes a visit to Lady Sylvanas Windrunner in Undercity. Combine that journey with other objectives rather than making a separate trip for every hand-in.
Zones and routes from level 30 to 60
The following routes are planning itineraries, not a tested launch walkthrough: beta play stopped at 30, and the higher-level plans combine existing quest data with the added zones. Treat each transition as a checkpoint to inspect your available quests.
Eastern Kingdoms route
| Suggested stage | Zone and quest hub |
| 30–34 | Hillsbrad Foothills: Southshore for Alliance. |
| 34–38 | Stranglethorn Vale: Rebel Camp/Booty Bay for Alliance; Grom'gol/Booty Bay for Horde. |
| 37–40 | Arathi Highlands: Refuge Pointe for Alliance; Horde's Hammerfall route runs 36–40. |
| 38–43 | Riverglades: Farholde Keep for Alliance; the Horde route uses Rog'mar at 41–45. |
| 40–43 | Badlands: Kargath is the Horde hub. |
| 42–45 | Return to Stranglethorn Vale for later quests. |
| 46–50 | The Hinterlands: Aerie Peak for Alliance; Revantusk Village suits Horde at 47–50. |
| 48–51 | Searing Gorge: Thorium Point. |
| 53–56 | Burning Steppes: Morgan's Vigil for Alliance or Flame Crest for Horde. |
| 54–60 | Western Plaguelands at 54–57, then Eastern Plaguelands at 56–60; use Chillwind Camp or the Bulwark, then Light's Hope Chapel. |
Riverglades' overall leveling bracket is 35–45, with more than 150 quests described for the mid-thirties through mid-forties. Alliance can approach from Redridge, while Horde can enter from the Badlands; the faction bases have flight masters, and Powderfuse Port connects by boat to Tanaris.
Kalimdor route and alternatives
| Suggested stage | Zone and quest hub |
| Early thirties | Finish Thousand Needles; the Alliance itinerary uses Mirage Raceway at 30–35 and the Horde itinerary Freewind Post at 28–33. |
| Mid-thirties | Desolace: Nijel's Point for Alliance at 33–38, or Shadowprey Village for Horde at 32–36. |
| Late thirties | Dustwallow Marsh: Theramore for Alliance at 38–41, or Brackenwall Village for Horde at 37–41. |
| 44–47 | Tanaris: Gadgetzan. |
| 45–48 | Feralas: Feathermoon Stronghold for Alliance or Camp Mojache for Horde. |
| 50–54 | Un'Goro Crater: Marshal's Refuge. |
| 52–55 | Felwood: Talonbranch Glade for Alliance or Bloodvenom Post for Horde; Azshara offers Talrendis Point or Valormok. |
| 56–60 | Winterspring: Everlook. |
| 57–60 | Silithus: Cenarion Hold. |
Desolace's added Gelkis and Magram quest content begins at 35. Shen'dralas sits beside Desolace, between Feralas and Mulgore, with quest connections to Razorfen Downs and Maraudon.
Mount Hyjal is a level-60 destination reached through Darkwhisper Gorge in Winterspring. Save it for the end of the leveling journey.

What to do when you run out of suitable quests
- Check neighboring hubs before fighting harder enemies: the early routes deliberately overlap several zones at the same character levels.
- Keep useful unfinished quests when changing zones; remove grey quests or those you do not intend to return for.
- Gather objectives into local circuits: the beta quest log holds 40 quests, and nearby objectives can be completed together before returning to town.
- Use a dungeon with its quests, another zone or ordinary enemy kills to bridge a level requirement.
- Inspect your weapon and trained abilities if ordinary fights become slow; enemies above your level and outdated equipment can both hinder progress.
Green quests can still be useful: one beta creator estimated that they retained 80–90% of their original quest XP, while taking less effort to finish. Weigh completion time against the next available quest rather than discarding a quest solely for its color.
The calculated higher-level itinerary has specific gaps: its Alliance example needs extra XP before Feralas at 42, Searing Gorge at 46, Blasted Lands at 48 and Un'Goro at 50; the Horde example needs bridging before Blasted Lands at 48 and Un'Goro at 50. Those are calculation checkpoints, not measured leveling times.
The quest data also gates later objectives behind 45 in the Horde Stranglethorn/Feralas routes and behind 55 for the remaining Western Plaguelands steps. Return after reaching the requirement instead of waiting at a hub with nothing suitable to accept.
A WoW Forever Leveling Boost takes the character-leveling work off your hands.
New dungeons by level bracket
| Dungeon | Level bracket | Location |
| Hall of Thanes | 13–18 | Beneath Ironforge. |
| Ruins of Lordaeron | 15–20 | Undercity entrance area. |
| Excavation Site: Wetlands | 26–31 | Wetlands. |
| City of Dalaran | Recommended 28–34 | Alterac Mountains. |
| The Drowned City | 35–40 | Stranglethorn Vale. |
| Krol'dok Stronghold | 40–45 | Riverglades. |
| Alcaz Prison | 48–53 | Dustwallow Marsh. |
| Blackmaw Hold | 55–60 | Azshara. |
| Shaper's Terrace | 58–60 | — |
Prepare dungeon quests before setting out. The October 1 beta update cut the additional XP attached to dungeon quests by half; the October 8 build subsequently raised dungeon enemy XP by about 20% and fixed reduced XP in groups containing a higher-level member. Plan an initial quest clear rather than building your entire route around repeated enemy kills.
Hall of Thanes
Collect Important Heirlooms from Thom Filch by the outside bridge and The Restless Dead from Afadra Dunwall upstairs. Old Ironforge Incursion requires the Dark Iron map obtained through Earthseer Farsen's Dun Morogh quest.
Ruins of Lordaeron
Horde preparation includes Light's Justice and The New Plague in Undercity, The Wrath of Rath'mael from Deathguard Kristof in Tirisfal, and A Frightened Request from Tabitha Heartweaver at the Sepulcher. Alliance quests begin inside through Captain Truman and quest drops.

Excavation Site: Wetlands
The dungeon quests require level 24 in the beta.
| Faction | Quests to prepare |
| Alliance | Songblade Search from Dorin Songblade in Lakeshire; Lost in the Thicket Things from Caitlin Grassman in Menethil Harbor; Horrors in the Highland from Rethiel the Greenwarden after three prerequisite quests. |
| Horde | Changing Tastes from Borstan in Orgrimmar; Dragonmaw Rumors from Zaruk in Hammerfall, leading to Open the Maw from the Deathstalker Agent near the entrance. |
City of Dalaran
Alliance can approach Image of Archmage Modera for access directly; the chain for obtaining your own sewer key applies to Horde. Only one keyholder needs to open the gate for the group.
For a Horde key, follow this sequence:
- Visit Magus Wordeen Voidglare in Tarren Mill and take the tasks involving traitors, their artifacts and the Grimy Key.
- Return for the task requiring six Dalaran Summoners and twelve Elemental Slaves.
- Follow the hand-in to Image of Archmage Modera outside Dalaran.
- Take the dungeon objective to collect an Arcane Mote and receive the Dalaran Sewer Key.
The other dungeon quests include these pickups, with level-24 requirements in the beta quest tables.
| Faction | Additional preparation |
| Alliance | A Green Sample and Power Overwhelming in Stormwind; Starving Arcane from Image of Archmage Modera outside the entrance. |
| Horde | The Grave Knight from Melisara in Tarren Mill; Source of Power from Doctor Martin Felben in Undercity; Opportunistic Education begins inside. |
Expect widespread Arcane immunity; interrupt Mana Phantoms' Mana Burn and use the mana-restoring field left by a defeated Saturated Remnant. For the final boss, Shade of the Archmage, spread out against Bounding Mana and keep casters beyond the 20-yard Arcane Explosion area.
Existing dungeons between the new ones
| Part of the journey | Dungeon options |
| Teens | Ragefire Chasm, Deadmines and Wailing Caverns. |
| Twenties | Shadowfang Keep, Blackfathom Deeps, Stockade, Gnomeregan and Razorfen Kraul. |
| Thirties | Scarlet Monastery, Razorfen Downs and Uldaman. |
| Forties | Maraudon, Zul'Farrak and Sunken Temple. |
| Fifties | Blackrock Depths, Lower Blackrock Spire, Dire Maul, Scholomance and Stratholme. |
XP bonuses, camps and Legacy perks
Cooking, First Aid and rested XP
Cook or buy suitable food for Well Fed: the beta buff grants 5% more XP from enemy kills, with a 15-minute duration. First Aid supplies bandages and healing potions, with potion crafting moved there from Alchemy.
Log out in cities or inns to build rested XP, which doubles kill XP while your reserve lasts. A Leatherworker with skill 20 can place a Camp Tent by a campfire; it tops your rested reserve up to 5% of a level and adds nothing when your reserve already exceeds that amount.
Resting at a campsite for a minute provides its available benefits; some stat effects are mutually exclusive with class buffs. Camping features normally have a one-hour placement cooldown. The WoW Forever Professions Guide covers the broader crafting and campsite systems.
Cozy Sleeping Bag
Begin the Cozy Sleeping Bag chain in Westfall at 37, 50 or The Barrens at 46, 74. Resting in the bag grants up to 3% extra XP; the chain also awards consumables for rested XP and a 12-slot bag. Work its travel into nearby questing rather than treating every stop as a separate expedition.

Legacy milestones and leveling perks
Legacy opens when you earn your first Legacy Point: reaching 25 on your first class is one path, but skill 150 in a non-gathering primary profession or exploration of the entire world map also unlocks it. Open its interface with the shield menu icon or the default Y key.
Points apply across your Battle.net account's non-Hardcore characters, and each character allocates them independently among Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness. At launch, each character can spend 16 points; all gameplay advantages can be unlocked without creating an alt.
| Leveling milestone | Legacy progression |
| Class levels 25, 45 and 60 | One point at each milestone for each class. |
| Non-gathering primary skill 150, 225 and 300 | One point for each profession milestone. |
| Dungeon completion | Three challenges for defeating the final bosses across the 15–25, 26–45 and 46–60 dungeon groups. |
Cooking, First Aid and Fishing do not provide the primary-profession milestone points.
| Adventure perk | Beta effect and prerequisites |
| Well Rested | Five ranks, each adding 4% to rested accumulation speed and storage, reaching 20%. |
| Thrill of Adventure | Five ranks restore 1–5% of maximum health and mana over ten seconds after your killing blow against a non-trivial enemy; inactive in dungeons, raids and battlegrounds. |
| Talented | Five ranks move the first talent point from level 10 to 9/8/7/6/5, keeping the total maximum at 51; requires five points in Well Rested. |
| Field Guide | Three ranks reduce camping-feature cooldowns by 8/16/25%; requires five Adventure points. |
| Field Medicine | Two ranks shorten Recently Bandaged by 5/10 seconds outside dungeons, raids and battlegrounds; requires five Adventure points. |
| Frequent Flier | Halves flight prices and increases flight speed by 20%; requires ten Adventure points and three Field Guide ranks. |
Choose perks for the way you intend to play. Rested accumulation favors time between sessions, while recovery after kills favors continued open-world fighting.
Training, equipment and travel
Class skills and leveling builds
Return to trainers at even levels for relevant abilities and ranks, and put purchased upgrades on your action bars. Prioritize skills you actually use: skipping unused damage ranks or minor utility upgrades preserves gold for later purchases.
Weapons are a major leveling upgrade, and the beta added stronger spell-power itemization for low-level casters. Check quest rewards and useful profession crafts alongside your trained skills.
Early Mage talent order remains contentious among some players, who favor wand specialization or Precision earlier and consider the Arcane Missiles proc essential. Low-level Mage damage feels weak to others discussing the class, leading them to consider Arcane or wait for Frostfire at 60.
Flight paths, hearthstones and movement skills
Speak to flight masters on your first visit to unlock their destinations. The beta Hearthstone has a ten-second cast and a one-hour cooldown, returning you to the inn you selected. Choose a home location that fits your next quest circuit or transport connection.
The added shipping routes link Stormwind Harbor with Auberdine and connect Menethil Harbor, Southshore and Auberdine. Alliance travelers can also use the Menethil–Theramore boat; Horde travelers can reach Grom'gol from Orgrimmar by zeppelin.
| Travel ability | When and how it helps |
| Teleport: Moonglade | Druids learn it at 10. |
| City teleports | Mages learn Stormwind/Ironforge or Orgrimmar/Undercity teleports at 20, depending on faction. |
| Ghost Wolf | Shaman learn it at 20; it provides 40% faster outdoor movement and has a three-second cast in build 1.60.1.70707. |
| Aspect of the Cheetah | Hunters learn it at 20 for 30% faster movement, with a daze penalty when hit. |
| Racial movement tools | Windshaper Skyborne have Skysight; Tauren gain speed through continued movement with Plainsrunning. |
The beta's Galestrider mount items require level 40. Set aside gold while leveling rather than treating an item requirement as the complete cost of riding.
Before leaving town, clear bag space and restock food, drinks, reagents and ammunition as needed.
PvP rules and launch preparation
On the PvP ruleset, opposing-faction characters can attack you in contested territory; Normal requires agreement to PvP. Pick the same faction and ruleset as your friends if you intend to level together.
Group for difficult objectives and elites, and remember that joining a group can move you into another world layer. Group quest-item drops also have bad-luck protection.
AoE grinding on a launch PvP server looks impractical to a few players.
there is 0% chance to aoe grind on pvp server past lvl 30. at least first 2 months.
— one player
The permanent level ceiling is 60, and Hardcore will not be available at launch. Use the WoW Forever release-date page to coordinate your start, then agree on your route and dungeon roles before setting out.
