Holy Cedar Tablets are the wooden tablets you inscribe during the Rite of Passage, the main quest that gates your entry into Kyovashad. You pick one up from the shrine next to the brazier, carve a sin into it, and throw it into the fire to finish the cleansing ritual. The choice of sin has no effect on your story or your rewards.

What are Holy Cedar Tablets used for?

They are a quest item for a single ritual, not a crafting material or a tradeable drop. A guardsman stops you at the gate of Kyovashad and demands you complete a cleansing ritual before you are allowed in, and the tablets are the object you use to do it. You take a tablet from the shrine, inscribe it with the sin that troubles you most, then throw it into the Brazier beside the shrine. Once you tell the guard the ritual is done, you can enter the city and meet Lorath again.

Where do you find Holy Cedar Tablets?

You find them at the cleansing shrine outside Kyovashad, in the Fractured Peaks, during the Rite of Passage quest. Head north along the path to Kyovashad using the map in the top right corner; on the way you pass Fallen, including a Fallen Shaman and a Fallen Overseer. At the city gate, speak with Lorath, who explains that you must perform the ritual and that he gets to skip it. The tablets sit at the shrine next to the brazier, and the quest marker leads you straight to the box by the fire.

What can you inscribe on the tablet?

Five options are offered at the shrine:

  • Inscribe "Fear" into the wood
  • Inscribe "Anger" into the wood
  • Inscribe "Pride" into the wood
  • Inscribe "Greed" into the wood
  • Inscribe nothing but scribbles into the wood

Does your Holy Cedar Tablet choice matter?

No. The outcome is the same whichever option you pick, and the rewards do not change. The choice is flavor showing the zealous nature of the Cathedral of Light, and you can skip the campaign on later playthroughs, which skips the ceremony entirely. Your answer is retained by the game and comes up in a later conversation with Lorath, who guesses what you wrote. The scene also exists to split you and Lorath up on the way into the city. Pick whichever sin fits your character, or scribble nothing at all.

Rite of Passage rewards

Completing the quest grants access to Kyovashad along with experience and gold. Completing the quest grants 1,248 XP and 350 Gold, or 880 XP and 300 Gold.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Holy Cedar Tablet choice the wrong choice if I pick scribbles?

No. Inscribing nothing but scribbles is one of the five valid options and the result is the same as any sin.

Can I get Holy Cedar Tablets again on a new character?

The ritual is part of the campaign, and you can skip the campaign on subsequent playthroughs, which skips the Holy Cedar Tablet ceremony.

Do Holy Cedar Tablets drop from enemies or world events?

They are picked up at the shrine during Rite of Passage. If you would rather not replay the campaign steps that gate this ritual on a fresh character, an Epiccarry Diablo 4 Power Leveling Boost can take that leveling work off your hands.
