Updated November 1, 2026 for FFXIV Glamour.

FFXIV glamour lets you change your equipment's appearance while keeping its stats; unlock it at level 15 through If I Had a Glamour, then use individual casts or saved outfit plates. Direct casts consume a Glamour Prism, while applying a saved plate needs no additional prisms.

How to unlock glamour

Reach level 15 and progress far enough through the main scenario to enter Western Thanalan, then accept If I Had a Glamour from Swyrgeim in Western Thanalan or Vesper Bay at X:12.6, Y:14.3. Completing it adds Cast Glamour to the General tab of Actions & Traits.

You can instead complete A Self-improving Man from Wiscard in Mor Dhona at approximately X:22, Y:6; it also requires level 15. The Western Thanalan and Mor Dhona unlock routes are mutually exclusive and provide the same functionality.

Swyrgeim also offers Color Your World, which unlocks gear dyeing.

Find ideas for your FFXIV glamour collection

Eorzea Collection lets you browse equipment appearances, matching sets and outfits submitted by players. Start with an outfit you like, then check its pieces against the restrictions below before committing to collecting them.

Use our Eorzea Collection guide to plan your browsing and outfit choices.

What gear can you glamour after patch 7.4?

Patch 7.4 removed class, job and level requirements from equipment glamours, so an appearance can display regardless of your current job or level. These changes also cover retainers, squadron members and Custom Delivery clients. For more of that update's changes, see our FFXIV Patch 7.4 guide.

Matching equipment slots

The appearance item must match the base item's equipment type: a head piece projects onto another head piece, for example. You can use crafting body gear over combat body armor, and armor from one job can provide another job's appearance.

Weapons, shields, armor and accessories can be glamoured, but Facewear belongs to the Fashion Accessories system and cannot be treated as glamoured gear.

Weapons, tools and shields

Weapons and tools still need matching item types: dark knight weapons project onto dark knight weapons, and shields project onto shields. Scholar and summoner books have an exception allowing their appearances to be used across those two jobs.

Race, gender and Grand Company restrictions

Equipment restrictions tied to race, gender or Grand Company affiliation still apply. An appearance blocked by your character's race or gender appears greyed out in the manual casting interface.

Equipment that occupies multiple slots

Multi-slot equipment uses a designated base slot when checking glamour compatibility; Herklaedi, for example, uses the body slot. Projecting its appearance also covers the hands, legs and feet that the original item would occupy.

Projecting a normal body piece onto Herklaedi changes only its body appearance, leaving the other occupied slots visually empty. A multi-slot item therefore prevents separate customization of the slots it blocks; wearing a Vermilion Cloak of Casting prevents a separate head glamour.

How to cast glamour on one item

Keep both the equipment whose stats you want and the item whose appearance you want in your inventory or Armoury Chest, with a Glamour Prism in your inventory.

  1. Open the base item's subcommand menu and choose Cast Glamour, or open the action through Actions & Traits → General.
  2. Select the base equipment first; the interface then shows available appearance items.
  3. Choose the appearance item from the right-hand list, checking that the base item is the one whose stats you want to retain.
  4. Confirm with Cast to consume the prism and apply the appearance.

The appearance item becomes bound to you; an otherwise unbound base item does not become bound merely from receiving the glamour. Neither piece of equipment is consumed.

You can put Cast Glamour on a hotbar for easier access.

Craft your own prisms

Absolutely Glamourous is the crafting unlock: accept it from Swyrgeim in Western Thanalan at X:12.6, Y:14.3 as a level 15 or higher Disciple of the Hand, after completing If I Had a Glamour.

  1. Speak with Folclind to obtain the Othardian Orange Juice.
  2. Deliver the juice to Swyrgeim.
  3. Take her letter to Goberin to unlock access to glamour prism recipe tomes.

You can then buy the tomes from Goberin in Western Thanalan at X:12.1, Y:15.0 or Tataroga in Mor Dhona at X:22.1, Y:6.7, and use them to learn their recipes. Submission Impossible is the mutually exclusive alternative crafting unlock in Mor Dhona.

The level 15 prism recipes cover Carpenter, Blacksmith, Armorer, Goldsmith, Leatherworker, Weaver and Alchemist. Each craft yields one prism, supports Quick Synthesis and cannot produce an HQ prism.

Crafting uses Clear Prisms, which cost 200 gil from vendors including Bango Zango in Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks at X:9.9, Y:11.4 and Maisenta in New Gridania at X:11.5, Y:11.2. The glamour master recipe books cost 300 gil.

How to use the glamour dresser

You need inn access and the Cast Glamour action to use a glamour dresser; dressers are available in inn rooms and Grand Company squadron rooms.

  1. Unequip the appearance item and interact with the dresser.
  2. Find it in the Glamour Creation window; use the Location selector if it is in your Armoury Chest.
  3. Select the item and confirm storage, spending one prism for a normal individual item.

Stored gear leaves your inventory or Armoury Chest and cannot function as equipment until you restore it. Use the Restore Item subcommand to retrieve it as a bound item. Some gear cannot enter the dresser, and stored glamours cannot be applied directly to squadron NPCs.

Storage capacity and the armoire

StorageCapacity and use
Glamour dresserHolds 800 glamour entries; restore entries to make room when full.
ArmoireHas unlimited capacity for eligible gear, including event equipment and certain other items; stored pieces can supply glamour plates.

Check whether an item can go in the armoire before using dresser space for it.

Outfit glamours

Compatible sets can be grouped into one dresser entry, including partial sets. Pieces grouped this way must share the same quality, NQ or HQ, and lose their dyes when stored.

The prism cost depends on how many pieces you add. In the Outfits tab, an orange piece count identifies a complete stored set, while a white count indicates missing pieces.

To extend a partial outfit, open its subcommand menu in the dresser, choose Add Missing Outfit Gear, then choose Outfit Glamour on the pieces you want to add. Only the added pieces determine that addition's prism cost.

How to create and apply glamour plates

Save an outfit

You can save up to 20 glamour plates, combining dresser appearances with eligible items from your armoire.

  1. Access the dresser, choose Edit Glamour Plates and select a numbered plate.
  2. Select an equipment category, then choose its appearance from the dresser or armoire; the toggle below the item selection window switches between those stores.
  3. Repeat for the slots you want to change; you can leave other slots unfilled.
  4. Select Save.

To clear an assigned appearance while editing, open its icon's subcommand menu and select Remove Item Image from Plate.

Apply a saved plate

Equip the gear you want to change, then open Glamour Plate from the Character menu or General Actions, choose a plate and select Apply. You can also apply it directly through the dresser.

Plates can be applied in sanctuary areas, including cities. Only occupied equipment slots receive the assigned appearances, and application replaces any existing glamour on those pieces. A small X on a plate slot indicates that you have no equipment on that body part.

Open the gear set list, select the set you want and choose Link to Glamour Plate. Switching to that set applies its linked appearance when you are in a town or sanctuary, allowing jobs that share equipment to use different looks.

How dyes work with the dresser and plates

Normal individual items retain their dye when stored in the dresser, but lose applied crests and any glamour previously projected onto them. You can dye a stored appearance directly.

You can instead dye an item after assigning it to a plate; the dye takes effect when you save the plate changes. Removing that assigned item from the plate removes its plate dye too. Use this distinction when planning variations of an outfit.

How to remove glamour

Carry a Glamour Dispeller, open Cast Glamour for the affected equipment and choose Remove; this consumes the dispeller. You do not need to remove an existing glamour before applying a different one.

Bango Zango in Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks at X:9.9, Y:11.4, Maisenta in New Gridania at X:11.5, Y:11.2 and Roarich in Ul'dah – Steps of Nald at X:10.5, Y:9.5 each sell dispellers for 500 gil. Grand Company quartermasters offer them for 200 corresponding Company Seals at Chief Storm Sergeant, Chief Serpent Sergeant or Chief Flame Sergeant rank.
