Enhancement Shamans in WoW Forever focus on two-handed weapons only, so your weapon choice is settled before you open the tree. The spec's reworked talents push you to weave melee hits and spells together, with Maelstrom Weapon, Mental Dexterity, Mental Quickness and Thundering Strikes all feeding one hybrid playstyle. Intellect now serves both sides of the build, turning your mana pool into melee damage as well.

What changed in the Enhancement tree

The core design theme of the Shaman pass is that melee attacks feed into your spell casts. Maelstrom Weapon, Mental Dexterity, Mental Quickness and Thundering Strikes together give an Enhancement Shaman a reason to weave weapon hits and spells, while Intellect becomes a stat that serves both sides of the build.

Specific talent changes:

  • Ancestral Knowledge changed from max mana to Intellect, at +2/+4/+6/+8/+10% across five ranks.
  • Mental Dexterity is new: Attack Power increases by 33/67/100% of Intellect across three ranks.
  • Spirit Weapons develops the old parry talent — rank 1 enables parry and gives −30% threat without Rockbiter Weapon and +30% with it.
  • Rage of the Farseer is the new Enhancement capstone, requiring Mental Quickness (2/2); rank 1 gives +30% melee attack speed and spell casting speed for 25 sec.
  • Two-Handed Axes and Maces is absent as a separate node.
  • Elemental Devastation moved earlier, granting +3/+6/+9% melee critical-strike chance for 10 sec when your offensive spells crit.
  • Elemental Fury moved earlier but spread across five points, starting at +20% critical-strike damage and reaching +100% at five points.

Totem Twisting was removed to make the game more approachable, since numerous buffs from the same totemic element were never intended. Some totem benefits could be changed to be raid-wide instead of party-wide to reduce the need for so many Shamans.

How the two-handed-only design changes your choices

Enhancement Shamans focus on two-handed weapons only. That makes slower two-handed weapons the target, and the priority is now much more important with access to Windfury Weapon and Stormstrike. Auto-attacks are the primary source of your damage, so always prioritize upgrading weapons.

Watch weapons that carry Spell Power — some have reduced weapon DPS to compensate, so compare each item's DPS before using it. The team wants Enhancement Shaman to care about Spell Power on gear, and the new Maelstrom Weapon talent gives Shaman an incentive to weave Lightning Bolts between normal melee rotation.

Maelstrom Weapon reduces the cast time and Mana cost of Lightning Bolt. It allows melee damage to generate stacks that reduce the cast time and Mana cost of the next Lightning Bolt, stacking up to five times so a fully stacked Shaman can cast Lightning Bolt instantly and without Mana cost. Mental Quickness increases spell damage and healing based on Intellect.

Enhancement talents at the level 30 cap

With the level cap at 30, a lot of the core Enhancement tools are accessible in the tree. Priority pick-ups are Shamanistic Focus early for Mana, Stormstrike as your primary rotational strike, and Improved Stormstrike to enable some in-combat Mana regeneration.

  • Thundering Strikes provides bulk Critical Strike early and synergizes with talents deeper in the tree; one point goes into Ancestral Knowledge at Level 24 for pathing.
  • Mental Dexterity enables Intellect as a source of Attack Power, increasing your Mana pool without losing offensive power.
  • Stormstrike is the centerpiece of the tree and your only active melee strike, triggering imbues and spiking at Level 25.
  • Flurry causes melee critical strikes to increase attack speed, with room for 4 points at the cap.
  • Improved Stormstrike unlocks at Level 30, enabling in-combat Mana regen and solo power through Stormstrike resets; only one point fits.

With 10 Legacy System Talent Points realistic through professions and class leveling, Maelstrom Weapon needs all 5 points to fit into the rotation, so one point is not worth grabbing yet on the Beta.

Totems and utility

Dropping a Totem is instant and has a reduced global cooldown of 1 second instead of 1.5. All four elements — Earth, Fire, Water and Air — are unlocked through class quests as you progress. Enhancement brings Windfury Totem for the party.

Three new totem tools are accessible at the level 30 cap:

  • Call of the Elements configures your totem bar to a loadout, dropping one of each element after a 3 second cast.
  • Totemic Recall immediately destroys all active Totems and returns 25% of their Mana cost.
  • Totemic Projection moves your active Totems to a target location on a 1-minute cooldown.

Flametongue Totem buffs your party with a version of your weapon imbue, and works alongside your own imbues provided you use a different one such as Windfury Weapon.

Stats and gear priorities

Auto-attack damage is the primary source of your damage, so always prioritize upgrading weapons. Intellect gives one Attack Power through Mental Dexterity, 15 Mana, and increased Spell Crit chance per point, and is even stronger with Mental Quickness via Legacy Talent Points. Melee Crit increases per point but is less important because there is no Attack Power modifier and other stats have dual function.

For professions, Skinning and Leatherworking pair well to supply resources for powerful gear as you level, and let you craft Camp Chair and Camp Tent for 2% Critical Strike or a bar of rested experience every hour. Enchanting is worth leveling for Polished Driftwood Icon in your Relic slot, which helps early Mana issues, while Alchemy provides useful early potions and a Mana Well campfire buff.

If gearing through the beta is the part you would rather hand off, a WoW Forever Pre-Raid Gear Boost covers that step for you.

Races for Enhancement Shaman

WoW Forever currently has five Shaman races: Orc, Tauren, Troll, and Windshaper Skyborne for the Horde, plus Dwarf for the Alliance.

  • Orc is the go-to Horde pick, providing Blood Fury as a damage cooldown, Shatter Curse as a self-dispel and magic damage reduction, Hardiness for flat stun duration reduction, and Axe Specialization for a free 1% Crit with an Axe.
  • Tauren gets a shout-out for the Beta, where Plainsrunning helps when exploring before mounts are available.
  • Dwarf is the only Alliance option, with Stoneform as a self-dispel plus Physical damage reduction, Mace Specialization for a free 1% Crit with a Mace, Big Game Hunter for 5% more damage against Beasts, and Find Treasure highlighting treasure chests.
