Keys are spent when you open the defeated boss's Hoard rather than when you summon the encounter. The tier-three keys previously called Betrayer's Husks were renamed Superior Lair Keys.
Season 15's patch 3.2.1 made the dedicated Mythic rewards from Initiate and Greater Lair Bosses follow each boss's Unique pool; your selected pool at Belial's Hoard follows that rule too. Generic loot from those encounters can still produce a Mythic outside the dedicated pool, with a small chance. When planning a Ring of Starless Skies drop farm in Diablo 4, weigh the boss's overall Mythic chance separately from its dedicated item pool.
The same patch raised Greater Lair Boss Mythic rates, brought Initiate Lair Boss rates up to match them, and increased Belial's rate. Use the Diablo 4 Lair Boss Loot Table to compare boss pools before committing your keys.

How to stock up on boss keys
- Gather Lair Keys through War Plans Key Spoils, Helltide Tortured Gifts, World Bosses, Legion Events, Tree of Whispers caches or Kurast Undercity.
- Spend those keys on Initiate Lair Boss Hoards to obtain Greater Lair Keys.
- Use Greater Lair Keys for your chosen Greater boss, or collect Superior Lair Keys from Belial's Ambush for Belial's Hoard.

Other ways to get the ring
Helltide chests
Helltide chests can contain Ring of Starless Skies; collect Cinders during the event and spend them to open chests. Helltides appear hourly, and their chest rewards were improved in patch 3.1.
Use this route alongside key collection rather than making every session depend on a boss run.
Open-world loot and other activities
Enemies and open-world chests can drop the ring, with Legion Events, World Bosses and Nightmare Dungeons offering additional high-tier loot opportunities. Whisper Caches can also produce Mythic Uniques.
Echo of Mephisto gained a guaranteed Mythic drop in patch 3.2.1. That guarantee applies to a Mythic reward, so treat the encounter as another opportunity rather than a promise of this ring.
Murmuring Obol gambling
You can spend Murmuring Obols at the Purveyor of Curiosities for gear with possible rarities extending to Mythic Unique. Season 15's Urn of Curiosities increases the chance to receive an additional item per purchase.
Gamble spare Obols as a supplementary attempt.
How to craft Ring of Starless Skies
Use the Blacksmith's Iconic-only cache for a chance at the ring: Iconic Mythics cannot be made at the Jeweler. In Season 15, the Blacksmith offers a separate cache restricted to Iconic Mythics, priced the same as the regular Mythic Unique cache.
- Salvage unwanted Mythic Uniques to receive one Resplendent Spark per item.
- Collect two Resplendent Sparks, the cost of a Blacksmith Mythic Unique cache.
- Open the Blacksmith's Forge menu, select the Iconic-only Mythic cache and craft it for a random Iconic Mythic.
Choose the restricted cache when you want to pursue this ring rather than the broader Mythic pool.
The Horadric Cube's Season 15 Upgrade Direct Item to Mythic recipe preserves the input item's identity, affixes and modifications, while Iconic items remain exclusively Mythic quality. The Cube's direct conversion gives an item the Crafted tag, limiting you to one such equipped item; Blacksmith cache items and Jeweler-crafted Mythics do not receive that tag.
Ring effect and Season 15 stats
Spending your Primary Resource activates a three-second effect that lowers skill resource costs and grants a multiplicative damage bonus in 10% increments, reaching 50%.
