Even if you’re new to Diablo 4, you already know the game is filled to the brim with all kinds of materials that can easily overwhelm you, especially once you step into the endgame. And those are only crafting materials used to improve your gear (also upgrading potions and crafting elixirs) and boost your character’s power! There are also Lair Boss Keys on top of that, the ones you need to unlock the Loot Hoards with after defeating Lair Bosses. And, needless to say, if you want to “git gud,” you’ll have to farm a lot of materials and spend dozens of hours grinding the endgame content.
Do you want to get materials for Tempering and Masterworking? Or maybe you need tons of Lair Boss Keys to earn Uniques and Mythic Uniques from Lair Bosses? Diablo 4 Materials Service Benefits
With the shift to free boss summons + Hoard Keys, the strategic value of summoning materials has changed dramatically. Now, materials like Distilled Fear, Living Steel, and Exquisite Blood aren’t consumed to summon the boss — instead, they’re used to unlock the rewards. This means you can test your build against any boss without risk of wasting your mats. But to claim your loot, each player must use Hoard Keys individually.
This change also influences farming priorities — you’re no longer forced to pre-grind for summoning mats. Instead, the bottleneck shifts to unlocking the Hoard chest. That makes these “keys” even more important, especially when grouped runs yield bonus loot or extra Unique chances.
Here’s how the new key economy stacks up:
| Activity |
Key Drop Sources |
Use of Keys |
Farming Focus |
| Killing a boss |
Boss kills spawn a Hoard chest; keys drop from world events, dungeons, Helltides |
Spend keys to open your personal chest |
Accumulate key stock rather than summon mats |
| Group runs |
Each player uses keys to open own chest; supports extra Unique drops per extra player |
Higher group size = more chance for extra loot |
Focus on shared key drop sources + boss runs |
| Material farming |
Keys are part of loot tables in dungeons, World Bosses, caches |
Keys function as consumables when opening chests |
Farm material-drop sources that also yield keys |
If you buy Diablo 4 Materials Boosting, you ensure not only key supplies but also optimal usage routes — whether for solo or group runs — so you never run short on the means to unlock your loot.
