Updated October 4, 2026 for the TBC Anniversary realms.
Leveling Tailoring from 1 to 375 in TBC Classic runs on cloth you can farm or buy: roughly 204 Linen, 135 Wool, 804 Silk, 470 Mageweave and 940 Runecloth for the Classic stretch, then about 2,976 Netherweave Cloth, 204 Arcane Dust, 10 Knothide Leather and 34 Netherweb Spider Silk for 300-375. You don't need a gathering profession to support it, since cloth drops from humanoids while you level.
Tailoring Materials Shopping List
Buy or farm everything before you start, and check your server's Auction House first, especially for Silk and Runecloth, which can spike early in a fresh economy.
| Material | Quantity |
| Linen Cloth | 204 |
| Wool Cloth | 135 |
| Silk Cloth | 804 |
| Mageweave Cloth | 470 |
| Runecloth | 940 |
| Netherweave Cloth | 2,976 |
| Arcane Dust | 204 |
| Knothide Leather | 10 |
| Netherweb Spider Silk | 34 |
For the 280-300 stretch you also need one of 100 Rugged Leather, 50 Gold Bar or 25 Dream Dust, and the Dream Dust route adds an extra 250 Runecloth to your list. Hold off on buying Netherweb Spider Silk until you're in the 360-375 range, since lucky dungeon-drop patterns from The Mechanar can remove the need for them entirely.
Tailoring Trainer Locations
In TBC Classic Anniversary you can learn all ranks from 1-300 at any major city trainer, so there's no need to hunt down specific NPCs across Azeroth. Horde trainers are Magar in Orgrimmar, Josef Gregorian in Undercity and Keelen Sheets in Silvermoon City; Alliance trainers are Georgio Bolero in Stormwind, Jormund Stonebrow in Ironforge and Refik in The Exodar.
Train Master Tailoring the moment you step through the Dark Portal so you don't waste crafts while capped at 300. The Master Tailoring trainer is Dalinna at Thrallmar for Horde and Hama at Honor Hold for Alliance, both in Hellfire Peninsula.
Leveling Tailoring 1-300
Convert cloth into bolts first and keep them, because you'll use them shortly.
- 1-45: Bolt of Linen Cloth, 102 bolts from 204 Linen Cloth
- 45-70: Linen Belt until 70
- 70-75: Reinforced Linen Cape × 5
- 75-100: Bolt of Woolen Cloth × 45
- 100-110: Simple Kilt × 13
- 110-125: Double-stitched Woolen Shoulders × 15
- 125-145: Bolt of Silk Cloth × 201
- 145-160: Azure Silk Hood × 18
- 160-170: Silk Headband × 10
- 170-175: Formal White Shirt × 5
Learn Journeyman Tailoring at level 10 before the wool stretch, Expert Tailoring at level 20 before silk, and Artisan Tailoring at level 35 before mageweave. For the silk section you'll also need Blue Dye, Red Dye, Bleach and Fine Thread from a Trade Vendor.
Continue with Bolt of Mageweave × 94 from 175-185, Crimson Silk Vest × 20 from 185-205, Crimson Silk Pantaloons × 10 from 205-215, Orange Mageweave Shirt × 5 from 215-220, Black Mageweave Gloves × 10 from 220-230 and Black Mageweave Headband from 230-250. From 250-260 craft Bolt of Runecloth and keep every bolt, then Runecloth Belt × 25 from 260-280.
For 280-300, pick whichever option is cheapest on your server: Brightcloth Cloak, Mooncloth, or Runecloth Gloves. Brightcloth Cloak is usually the cleanest option if Gold Bars aren't too expensive.
Leveling Tailoring 300-375
Most of this stretch runs on Netherweave Cloth, which drops constantly in Hellfire Peninsula dungeons and from humanoids across every Outland zone; Legion Hold in Shadowmoon Valley is the best farming spot thanks to fast respawns and a high cloth drop rate.
- 300-325: Bolt of Netherweave, keep every bolt
- 325-340: Bolt of Imbued Netherweave × 102, using 204 Arcane Dust
- 340-350: Netherweave Robe
- 350-360: Netherweave Tunic
- 360-375: Imbued Netherweave Tunic, or dungeon-drop patterns
To craft Bolt of Imbued Netherweave you must stand near the Mana Loom in Shattrath City's Lower City at /way 66.0, 68.0, so plan your trips accordingly. The Pattern: Bolt of Imbued Netherweave is sold by Eiin in Shattrath City, right next to the loom.
For 360-375, two patterns from The Mechanar can save significant materials if you get lucky: Pattern: Arcanoweave Boots from Sunseeker Astromages and Pattern: Arcanoweave Robe. Without either pattern, Imbued Netherweave Tunic gets you to 375 reliably using your existing Bolt of Imbued Netherweave supply plus Netherweb Spider Silk.
Tailoring Specializations
At level 60 with 350 skill you can visit Shattrath's Lower City to pick Spellfire, Shadoweave or Mooncloth Tailoring, each unlocking a powerful cooldown cloth and a BoP epic set. All three specialization trainers sit close together in the Lower City district, near the Mana Loom. As a specialist you can craft two of your specialty cloth per cooldown instead of one.
If you're also pushing other professions alongside Tailoring, the TBC Classic Anniversary attunement guide covers the quest chains you'll need for raid access, and the TBC Anniversary gold farming guide covers paying for all that cloth. If you'd rather not farm the cloth yourself, an TBC Anniversary Tailoring boost handles the skill-ups for you.
Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the fastest way to level Tailoring in TBC?
Craft bolts of cloth first and save them, then spend them on gear crafts, stopping each recipe as soon as it turns yellow to avoid wasting materials. Netherweave Cloth from Hellfire Peninsula dungeons and Outland humanoids feeds almost the entire 300-375 stretch.
Do I need a gathering profession for Tailoring?
No. Cloth drops naturally from humanoids while you level, so you can progress your character and your profession at the same time. Enchanting is the usual pairing, since you can disenchant the gear you craft and level both professions at once.
Where do I learn Master Tailoring?
From Dalinna at Thrallmar for Horde or Hama at Honor Hold for Alliance, both in Hellfire Peninsula. Train it as soon as you enter Outland.
Can I skip Netherweb Spider Silk?
Possibly. If you get the Arcanoweave Boots or Arcanoweave Robe patterns from The Mechanar, you may not need the spider silk at all, so buy it late.
