For this WoW Forever warlock guide, level as Affliction: apply damage-over-time spells, finish with a wand, and use Drain Life when you need health. Start with Suppression and Improved Corruption, then reach Siphon Life at level 30; a separate drain-focused setup uses five extra Legacy talent points.
Affliction leveling talents, level by level
Talents unlock at level 10, and you can reset them through a class trainer in a major city. The effects below use the current beta client build, 1.60.1.70707, and may change before the November 4, 2026 launch.
This Affliction leveling build favors hit, instant Corruption and critical damage before adding another healing DoT.
| Character level | Talent allocation | Effect at the completed allocation |
| 10–13 | Suppression 4/5 | Gain 4% hit for fighting enemies of your level. |
| 14–18 | Improved Corruption 5/5 | Remove 2 seconds from Corruption's cast time, making it instant, and increase its damage by 10%. |
| 19 | Suppression 5/5 | Finish at 5% hit and 20% less threat generated. |
| 20–22 | Pandemic 3/3 | Increase the critical damage bonus of Corruption, both damaging Banes, Drain Soul, Drain Life, Siphon Life and Wrack by 100%. |
| 23–24 | Improved Bane of Agony 2/2 | Increase Bane of Agony damage by 10%. |
| 25–29 | Malevolence 5/5 | Add 5% critical effect chance to Shadow spells. |
| 30 | Siphon Life 1/1 | Add a health-transfer DoT lasting 30 seconds; its current talent tooltip transfers 11 health every 3 seconds. |
Keep Siphon Life for enemies durable enough to justify its mana cost, rather than adding it to every nearly dead quest mob.
Nightfall alternative
A different leveling path takes Nightfall at levels 25–26. Nightfall comes in two ranks; at full strength, Corruption, Drain Soul, Drain Life and Wrack each carry a 4% chance to cause your following Shadow Bolt to be cast instantly.
Spend that instant cast on a healthier enemy when your existing DoTs will already finish the current target. The proc removes the cast time, but you still spend mana.
Drain build with five extra Legacy points
For a drain-focused alternative, use this demonstrated level-30 setup only when you have the five additional Legacy talent points, giving you 26 points in total.
| Talent | Allocation |
| Improved Corruption | 5/5. |
| Suppression | 5/5. |
| Improved Life Tap | 2/2. |
| Improved Drains | 3/3. |
| Fel Concentration | 3/3. |
| Soul Siphon | 3/3. |
| Improved Bane of Agony | 2/2. |
| Grim Reach | 2/2. |
| Siphon Life | 1/1. |
Improved Life Tap increases mana gained by 20%, while Improved Drains increases the damage or health drained by Drain Life, Drain Soul and Wrack by 20%. Fel Concentration gives Drain Life, Drain Mana, Drain Soul and Wrack a 70% chance to avoid channel time loss from damage.
Soul Siphon strengthens Drain Life, Drain Soul and Wrack by 12% per other Affliction effect on the target, capped at 36%; Grim Reach increases Affliction spell range by 20%. A Bane and a Curse can contribute to the effects supporting your drains.
The player demonstrating this setup preferred consistent drain support over Nightfall procs and the early critical scaling of Pandemic and Malevolence. Treat that as a playstyle choice rather than a universal ranking.
Spell and pet unlocks from level 1 to 30
Keep Demon Skin active during the early levels, then replace it with Demon Armor when you learn it. Visit a Demon Trainer separately for pet Grimoires, and summon the matching demon before using its book.

| 1 | Start with Shadow Bolt and Demon Skin, learn Immolate for 10 copper, and complete the starting-area Imp quest. |
| 4 | Learn Corruption and Curse of Weakness; buy the Imp's Blood Pact Grimoire. |
| 6 | Learn Life Tap and Shadow Bolt rank 2; replace the old Shadow Bolt rank on your action bar. |
| 8 | Learn Bane of Agony and Fear. |
| 10 | Complete the Voidwalker quest and learn Drain Soul, Create Healthstone and Immolate rank 2. |
| 12 | Train Shadow Bolt rank 3. |

WoW Forever warlock rotation for leveling
Early pulls and wand finishing
Before you have a wand, open with Immolate and use Shadow Bolt or weapon attacks to finish enemies; once Corruption is available, add it when the target will survive its damage. A wand provides damage without spending mana, but you must briefly stop moving before shooting, and Spell Power does not increase its damage.
Use this priority once your early DoTs and demon are available:
- Send your demon to attack before you begin dealing damage.
- Open with Bane of Agony when you want an immediate tag and a gentler threat lead for your pet.
- Apply Corruption, then add Immolate only if the enemy will live long enough for it to pay off.
- Shoot your wand while your DoTs and demon continue dealing damage; use Drain Life instead when you need healing.
- Let low-health enemies die to existing damage rather than spending mana on another full DoT.
Bane of Agony deals its strongest damage late in its duration, so let it expire before refreshing it. Immolate is useful as a precast opening spell, but its initial hit makes it harder for your demon to take threat.
Drain tanking and resource management
Drain tanking means accepting some incoming hits while Drain Life restores health, then spending that health through Life Tap to recover mana. Rank 3 Drain Life and drain talents support the transition at level 30; switch back to your wand when health is full or the target is almost dead.
For normal enemies, use Bane of Agony, Corruption and Drain Life, adding your utility Curse or Siphon Life when the fight warrants them. Spirit increases Life Tap's conversion, while Drain Life and later Siphon Life help replenish the health you spend.
Tap before your mana is completely empty, preferably while moving or between DoT applications, and avoid draining yourself too low with repeated taps. Carry food, water and bandages; when both resources are depleted, eating and drinking together can recover both bars.
Multiple enemies and dungeon packs
Spread DoTs across durable targets, control an extra enemy with Fear when there is room, and channel Drain Life on the target you are fighting. One demonstrated drain-tanking approach aimed for pulls of up to three mobs; that was the player's chosen pull size, so start smaller and increase it only when comfortable.
Fear can send enemies into nearby packs, and damage can end its effect. Curse of Recklessness stops fleeing and prevents Fear or Horror, so replace it before trying to fear that enemy again.
In dungeon packs, use Rain of Fire from range when enemies are grouped, or Hellfire when the tank has control and healing can cover your self-damage. Neither Fire AoE spell benefits from this build's Shadow damage and drain bonuses, and Siphon Life usually costs too much for enemies dying quickly in a pack.

Demon quests and choosing your pet
Imp
Use the Imp for ranged damage and Blood Pact's party Stamina, keeping it close enough for the buff to reach your group. Fire Shield belongs on a friendly target taking regular melee hits.
Voidwalker
The Voidwalker is the safer choice when you want enemies held away from you; its Sacrifice trades the pet for an absorb shield that prevents damage from causing spell pushback while it lasts. Torment generates threat rather than forcing an enemy to switch targets, and Consume Shadows heals the pet between fights.
Voidwalker. Image: Wowpedia.
For Horde, the Undercity Voidwalker quest is easier than the Orgrimmar route through Skull Rock; Alliance can use the nearby Stormwind or Ironforge trainer route, with Stormwind the slightly faster option.
Succubus or Incubus
Choose either appearance for the same ability set: these pets provide melee damage and Seduction against Humanoids. They offer more damage than the Voidwalker, but you should be ready to take hits yourself.
The Succubus quest begins with Devourer of Souls in Stormwind, Orgrimmar or Undercity; the Incubus routes are What Is Love? in Stormwind, Love Hurts in Orgrimmar, or Hearts of the Lovers in Undercity. The Horde Succubus chain crosses the Barrens and Stonetalon Mountains, so collect the flight paths before committing to its travel.
Any damage, including your DoT ticks, breaks Seduction; reserve it for an enemy you have left untouched.
Felhunter
Seeking Strahad starts through Stormwind, Orgrimmar or Undercity and sends you to Strahad Farsan in Ratchet. Devour Magic removes harmful Magic from an ally or beneficial Magic from an enemy, healing the pet when successful.
Spell Lock becomes available through a Grimoire at level 36, beyond this leveling bracket.
Pet control and training
Bind Attack and Follow, use Passive when you want to choose every target, and turn Torment off while a dungeon tank holds the enemies. Move To lets you position your demon within 100 yards, including away from dangerous area effects.
Control Seduction manually, dismiss your pet before ledge jumps where its path could pull extra mobs, and make pet swaps before combat when possible: summoning stuns your existing pet during the cast.
Soul Shards, Curses and survival tools
Drain Soul can produce Soul Shards from damage ticks against eligible nontrivial enemies, with the chance increasing after unsuccessful ticks; an eligible enemy dying during the channel also grants a shard. Shards do not stack, but a shard bag can occupy the dedicated reagent slot; Summon Imp remains available without shards because it costs only mana.
Keep shards for your demon summons, Healthstones, Soulstones and Ritual of Summoning. A Healthstone supplies an instant heal, while a Soulstone must be applied before death to enable resurrection afterward. Ritual of Summoning requires a shard and two other group members assisting at the portal while out of combat.
You can maintain one Bane and one Curse per enemy, allowing damaging Bane of Agony to coexist with a utility debuff. The Rogue and Warlock deep dive covers this class rework alongside pet scaling and weapon imbues.
| Curse | When to use it |
| Curse of Weakness | Reduce an enemy's Physical damage when melee hits threaten you or your pet. |
| Curse of Recklessness | Lower Armor and prevent low-health runners from escaping. |
| Curse of the Elements | Reduce Magic resistances and increase Magic damage taken against durable enemies; it affects all magic damage. |
| Curse of Tongues | Slow enemy casts so your group has more time to stop dangerous spells. |
Banish removes a Demon or Elemental from the fight while also making it immune to damage. Subjugate Demon uses up one shard to take command of a fitting hostile Demon for as long as five minutes, takes the place of your regular pet, and may be cancelled before then.
Wands, gear and professions
Prioritize Spell Power or Shadow damage for your DoTs and drains, then weigh Spirit, Intellect and Stamina for smoother resource management. Critical Strike gains value with Pandemic, while an early wand remains an important separate damage upgrade.
Gravestone Scepter. Image: Wowhead.
| Upgrade | Where to get it |
| Lesser Magic Wand | An Enchanting craft available to use at level 5, with 11.3 DPS. |
| Greater Magic Wand | An Enchanting craft available to use at level 13, with 17.5 DPS. |
| Gravestone Scepter | A 29-DPS reward from Blackfathom Villainy in Blackfathom Deeps; the quest starts at level 18, although the dungeon generally needs a higher level. |
| Staff of Soran'ruk or Orb of Soran'ruk | Choose one through The Orb of Soran'ruk from Doan Karhan in the Barrens, collecting fragments in Blackfathom Deeps and Shadowfang Keep. |
| Staff of the Shade | A rare Razorfen Kraul drop usable from level 22, with 37 Shadow damage and 15 Stamina. |
Buy crafted wands from another player if you do not take Enchanting yourself. Create Firestone supplies a Fire damage and spell critical strike weapon imbue; Spellstone becomes available at level 36 and better matches Affliction through Shadow damage and spell haste, and both can coexist with Wizard Oil.
Tailoring and Enchanting work together because you can disenchant unwanted cloth crafts, and Tailoring supplies armor and bags. Gathering professions provide materials and gold while questing, while Engineering with Mining offers explosives and other tools.
Learn First Aid for bandages and Healing Potions, and use Cooking for food; these secondary professions do not occupy your primary slots. Keep training and Grimoire costs in mind when deciding how much gold to spend on gear.
Affliction, Demonology or Destruction?
Affliction
Affliction is the recommended leveling specialization for its sustained DoTs, self-healing and limited recovery time, although short-lived enemies give its damage less time to work. Its damage keeps ticking while you move between casts and channels.
Demonology
Demonology suits you if you enjoy maintaining a strong demon alongside your own spells; its leveling payoff comes later than Affliction's. At 3/3, Demonic Brand halves Searing Pain's threat and applies a 10-second brand that empowers your pet's next six attacks, with high threat when those attacks deal Shadow damage.
Be cautious with Searing Pain before you have Demonic Brand, because its threat can pull enemies away from your pet. Demonic Energies has two ranks and, when completed, heals your pet for 15% of your spell damage and gives it mana equal to what you gain from Life Tap.
Destruction
Destruction offers stronger immediate burst but asks you to stand still for more casts and is harder to sustain alone. Its early leveling loop uses Immolate and Shadow Bolt or a wand, adding Conflagrate and Shadowburn as its talents become available.
Conflagrate has one talent rank and consumes your Immolate, while Shadowburn has one talent rank and returns a Soul Shard when a nontrivial target dies within eight seconds of the hit. Bane of Havoc is a one-rank talent lasting five minutes that copies 15% of your damage to other enemies onto its marked target, with a single-target limit.
Wrack and leveling beyond 30
The beta leveling material stops at level 30; extended leveling builds were planned for after the November 4 launch. Treat the following progression as a proposed build, rather than a route tested through the full level range.
One extended path diverts into Demonology after Siphon Life, takes Demonic Sacrifice at level 41, then returns to Affliction for Wrack at level 51, ending with 40 Affliction and 11 Demonology points. Demonic Sacrifice has one rank and provides a two-hour buff that disappears when you summon another demon.
For solo play, that path recommends sacrificing a Felhunter for 3% maximum health every four seconds; the alternatives include an Imp for 15% Shadow damage, a Voidwalker for 2% maximum mana every four seconds, or a Succubus or Incubus for 15% Fire damage.
Wrack is a one-rank capstone in Affliction's seventh row, and its six-second channel increases damage from your other Shadow DoTs on that target by 10%. Apply those DoTs before channeling, and use Drain Life when you need healing because Wrack does not heal you.
A direct Affliction progression instead targets Wrack at level 40. Keep that choice separate from the Demonic Sacrifice detour when planning your points.
