You can reach the Diablo 4 Secret Cow Level through another character's Moo emote, or complete three ingredient chains and open the island portal on a Tuesday with Greed selected. This Diablo 4 cow level guide covers the Season 15 Bell of the Bovine farming method alongside the full route, which leads to the Cow King and his Mythic Unique helm.
Requirements and which route to choose
You need Lord of Hatred to enter the level, and the Moo shortcut requires you to finish its campaign. The full route also requires Vessel of Hatred and its completed campaign for the Rusted Bardiche chain.
| Ingredient | Where its chain takes place |
| Stamina Potion | Base-game regions and the Forlorn Hovel. |
| Rusted Bardiche | Nahantu in Vessel of Hatred. |
| Neyrelle's Hand | Skovos in Lord of Hatred, followed by Hawezar. |
Choose the shortcut for access to the boss; completing the ingredient chains also unlocks your own Moo emote and the boat route. You can work on the three ingredient chains in any order.
The unlock's length and repeated cow kills feel excessive for cosmetic rewards to many players.
Progress between Eternal and seasonal characters prompted this report from one player.
Confirmed: Completed on Eternal and it unlocked vendor option on Season.

Moo shortcut: enter without the three item chains
- Stand near a character who earned the Moo emote through the full questline and have them use it; a message about a wanderer's bellow and a new sin indicates success.
- After completing the Lord of Hatred campaign, visit Kyovashad Gatehouse and select Moo at the Holy Cedar Tablets.
- Go to the Outcast's Journal in Mount Hefaetrus East Face, in Skartara on Skovos, north of the Cataclysm Dungeon.
- Interact with the journal to create the portal, or enter it directly if it is already present.
Receiving the bellow before finishing the campaign still counts: the tablet option becomes available after you finish the story. If Moo is missing after campaign completion, receive the emote again.
This entrance works on any day and does not require Greed. Receiving access does not give you the Moo emote to pass on to others or unlock the Outcast's Boat.
Stamina Potion: collect the base-game relics
First relic and regional drops
At Ked Bardu, the Oxen God of the East and the Old Tablet in the fountain introduce the relic puzzle. Your first relic drops on your 666th cow kill, with its identity determined by the region of that final kill; earlier kills can come from other regions.
| Relic | Region for the drop |
| Bloody Wooden Shard | Kehjistan or Hawezar. |
| Intricate Metallic Fragment | Dry Steppes. |
| Musty Tome | Scosglen or Fractured Peaks. |
The counter is hidden, and its reset timer is 666,666 seconds, about 7.7 days. Keep track of your kills and finish that stretch within the timer.
After your first relic, you can continue on the same character in the other regions, where the remaining relics can drop randomly. Another option is to farm a first relic on additional characters and move the items through your Shared Stash.
The relics are tradeable and appear as shared ground loot, so another party member can pick them up.
Bell of the Bovine farming method
In Season 15, Moophisto drops the Bell of the Bovine again, letting you advance the cow-kill chain while fighting ordinary enemies. The amulet's Lucky Hit effect fires Moo with up to a 30% chance, and after that Lucky Moo has up to a 50% chance to call forth a cow that detonates with Fire damage. Those summoned cows count toward the relic counter.
- Equip the amulet and attack enemies in the region for your missing relic.
- Favor an active Helltide for its denser enemy packs and more opportunities to summon cows.
- Collect the regional relic, move to a region for another missing item, and repeat.
One creator completed the first chain in about 25 minutes, including roughly 10–15 minutes for the first relic in a Helltide; treat those as that run's timings.
The Bell's exploding cows make the counter quicker with attacks that hit multiple targets, report a few players using the amulet.
Cow routes without the amulet
Natural cow spawns have a five-minute respawn timer. Use these routes if you are gathering the relics directly.
| Route | Where to look |
| Farobru, Dry Steppes | Leave south and visit four farms plus the town's fenced area; farms can hold 1–3 cows each, while the fence holds two. |
| Cerrigar, Scosglen | Exit south, turn north to the two western farms, then continue west to two more cow camps. |
| Outside Forlorn Hovel, Scosglen | Ride east from Under the Fat Goose Inn to find 1–3 cows outside the cellar. |
| Zarbinzet, Hawezar | Head south toward the bandit camps and check two nearby cow camps. |
| Wejinhani, Hawezar | Check immediately outside the eastern edge of town for 1–2 cows. |
Farobru's fenced cows require a ranged attack from outside the town's restricted area. Choose a route in the correct drop region when approaching the first relic's threshold.
Cleanse the relics and open Forlorn Hovel
- Return to Ked Bardu's fountain, drop all three relics into the water, and collect them again.
- With the cleansed relics in your inventory, offer them to the other Oxen God statues, which become interactable.
- Pick up the Strange Key and take it to the plain cellar door far east of Under the Fat Goose Inn, on Scosglen's eastern tip.
- Unlock Forlorn Hovel and kill the cows inside to obtain the Stamina Potion.
The key is consumed when used and permanently opens the cellar for that character. Keep it safe until then: replacing a lost key means repeating the relic process.

Rusted Bardiche: finish the Nahantu relic chain
Jabbering Gemstone
Read the scroll at the northern waterfront of Kurast Docks, then visit the five grave altars at the Onachu Ikha Burial site. Use the Thanks emote at three of those graves to make the Jabbering Gemstone drop.
Rusted Old Bell
Read The Accession of Lord Uacax in the treehouse beside the bridge east of Samuk. You must approach 12 bird statues in sequence, then return to the first; there is no interaction button, so walk close enough for each visit to register.
The route starts at the pillar across Samuk's eastern bridge and passes Sutsarnin Grove, The Tangles, Nin-Obisu and Reflection's Edge. It continues through The Clouded Forest, Yeyahah Trying Grounds and Vale of the Long Mists, then Lower Kurast and the area around Putrescent Larder before looping back.
Useful landmarks include the unlit campfire near the Yeyahah statue, the In Memory of the Dead grave beside Lower Kurast's first statue, and scaffolding holding its next statue. The penultimate statue stands above Putrescent Larder near a tree; the last sits on a ruin west of that dungeon, after which returning to the Samuk pillar drops the bell.
Crooked Staff
Liberate Kichuk before changing your build, then read The Triumph of Lord Uacax there. Your target is Blood Lightning, southwest of Kichuk in The Great Shelf, and you must defeat it using only the baseline attack.
- Remove allocated skill points and equipment that grants extra skill points so the baseline attack becomes available.
- Dismiss Mercenaries and Reinforcements, remove Minions, and eliminate Thorns or other damage effects.
- Consider Normal difficulty, approach the lightning-covered corpses that trigger Blood Lightning, and defeat it with the baseline attack to collect the staff.
Warlocks with their Soul Shard mechanic cannot remove enough abilities for this step, and Paladin Oaths also prevent the required setup; use another class and transfer the staff through the Shared Stash if necessary.
Corrupt the items and obtain the Unusual Key
Go north of Ichorfall to the Field of Giants and gather three special Cordyceptic Zombies. Remove automatic damage effects, clear the surrounding enemies, and lure the zombies together while keeping their attention.
Killing a Bloated Corpsefiend near a zombie enrages it and makes it follow faster, which can help you bring the group together. Zombies killed too early respawn quickly.
- Kill all three zombies close together to create the mushroom patch.
- Immediately drop the Jabbering Gemstone, Rusted Old Bell and Crooked Staff onto it, then pick them up once their purple effect shows corruption; the patch lasts about one minute.
- Take the corrupted relics to Oka'bo Temple, south of Kurast Bazaar, and burn them at its three braziers to receive the Unusual Key.
- Enter Forlorn Burrow and use the key on the interactable wall on the right side of its main room.
- Enter the concealed room and kill its cows to obtain the Rusted Bardiche.
Neyrelle's Hand: complete the Skovos sin quests
Read the Outcast's Journal before beginning the sin quests. For each quest, select its sin at Kyovashad Gatehouse's Holy Cedar Tablets, then return to the journal for the corresponding clue. Pride, Anger and Fear can be completed in any order; leave Greed until afterward.
Pride: Father's Chains
- Select Pride and revisit the journal, then destroy Ballistas around Akarat's Bulwark in Celestia until you receive an Amazonian Bolt.
- Bring the bolt to Idyllic Reach in Philios and load the Unloaded Ballista near the cellar entrance.
- Cross the newly created traversal and follow the path to The Heavenly Father statue.
- Interact with the statue to summon N'Facl, Jailer of Angels, then kill the boss for Father's Chains.
- Burn the chains at the Signal Brazier at Antia's Flame in northern Philios.
Anger: Mother's Rose
Select Anger, read the journal, and attack the Training Dummy in Temis's Training Grounds until it drops the Amazon Training Helm. Equip it before farming Corrupted Amazons in Celestia for more training armor.
Equip each new piece as it drops to progress through the set. The remaining slots are Tunic, Pants, Gloves and Boots. Corrupted Amazons appear around Tyrael's Encampment, Shepherd Hills, The Abandoned Stench, Akarat's Bulwark and the Observatory areas.
Farm outside Helltides, where training pieces may fail to qualify, and allow five minutes for enemy clusters to respawn.
With the training armor equipped, defeat Vasha the Unbroken southeast of Akarat's Bulwark; continue killing Corrupted Amazons if Mother's Rose does not appear immediately. Take the rose to the Signal Brazier in Athulua's Temple of Courage and burn it, then restore your usual armor.
Fear: Hierophant's Skull
Select Fear and revisit the journal, then find the Large Crow beside the sundial near the Ruins of Broken Reason in Lycander. Interact with it and keep it in sight as it flies around its route and returns to its starting point, where it drops the Hierophant's Skull.
After the beach section, climb the cliff and turn left into the Hollow of Farewells, where two statues stand; wait for the crow to reappear before continuing. Movement speed helps, but abilities such as Leap may reset the bird.
If you lose it, return to the starting outcrop and wait for it to respawn. Burn the skull at the Temple of Life in southeastern Lycander; after all three relics have been burned, you receive the Hadopelagic Key.
Greed: fish up the coffin
Train fishing before this step, select Greed at Kyovashad Gatehouse, and read the journal again.
- Travel to The Creaking Hulls in eastern Hawezar and follow the linked shipwrecks to the statue at the end.
- Fish from the pale wooden section beneath the statue to pull up the Locked Wooden Coffin.
- Use the Hadopelagic Key on the coffin, then interact again to enter the Temple of the Deathspeaker.
- Reach the candle-ringed altar and interact with the Bloated Calf to receive Neyrelle's Hand.
Horadric Cube recipe and Tuesday portal
Keep Greed selected and bring your three finished ingredients to the Horadric Cube beside the Temis waypoint.
- Insert the Stamina Potion, Rusted Bardiche and Neyrelle's Hand, then transmute the recipe to obtain the Trophy of the Faithful cache.
- Open the cache and pick up the Torn Page; this completes the There is No Cow Level challenge and awards the Moo emote.
- Carry the page to Skovos's eastern shore and use the Outcast's Boat to sail to Scylara.
- Enter the island's Forlorn Cellar and find the circular group of cows; the book in the adjoining room depicts seven portals, with the highlighted third portal hinting at Tuesday.
- On a Tuesday, with Greed selected, kill the circle of cows to create the portal.
Keep the Torn Page for later boat trips: the boat is only visible while you carry it. The island can be visited on other days, but the cellar's cows remain invulnerable outside Tuesday.
After finishing the chain, select Moo at the Gatehouse and use the journal entrance for return visits without the Tuesday restriction. With Moo selected, you can use your earned emote to grant other characters access.
Cow King rewards and the Crown's effects
Kill Tormented Bovines until the Cow King appears in the western part of the level. Defeating him rewards The Cow King's Crown, a Mythic Unique helm, and Prime Rib.
The helm has 666 Item Power, 999 Armor and one empty socket. Its description assigns a different joke effect to each weekday.
| Day | Effect described by the Crown |
| Monday | Adds 1 damage against enemies with two legs, with a leg-count calculation attached. |
| Tuesday | Reduces the chance of bad luck by 10% against its specially defined distant enemies, using a distance of 3–18 hooves and an equatorial condition. |
| Wednesday | Mentions a chance to shorten an enemy's cooldown, followed by a negative qualification. |
| Thursday | Picking up a Legendary grants 3% extra damage against stunned non-Elites under its Bullnerable condition, lasting 2.5 seconds between 3 AM and 4 AM. |
| Friday | Gives 10.26% Moobility damage during movement. |
| Saturday | Gives a 1.3% chance to disregard Crowd Control after more than 10 weeks of being Crowd Controlled in Helltide. |
| Sunday | Lists 51 Life on Death, qualified as only a possibility. |
Prime Rib is a quest item that cannot be salvaged.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you fish for anything special on Cow Island?
Scylara's rainbow pool contains Vivid Whimsy, a Mythic Unique fish found only there. Even with shortcut access, selecting Leave Dungeon from the Action Wheel inside the Cow Level takes you onto the island.
What else is inside Forlorn Hovel?
In Season 15, interacting with the dead sheep opens a portal to the Temple of Baaaaaaal, and the Map of the Stars is a reward from the Forlorn Hovel area. You can reach the Hovel by teleporting to a party member already inside, without completing its unlock chain yourself.
