How the MW4 Beta Ended

The Open Beta was originally scheduled to end September 1 at 10:00 AM PT, but Infinity Ward extended it by 12 hours to 10:00 PM PT while keeping Double Player XP and Double Weapon XP active through the extended window. Double XP had been running since August 30, and Weekend 2 also raised the Player Level cap from 20 to 30, opening up the beta’s final progression rewards for anyone still chasing them.
MW4 TTK Is Still Changing Before Launch
Infinity Ward deliberately targeted a slight TTK increase for Weekend 2, choosing weapon tuning over raising base health, and by August 31 said average TTK was much closer to its target. The pass touched the Krait P68, PPSh-41, ISO Nightshade, FiNN LMG, Type 73, Oris 8.6, Han 86, Hyeon Burst, M4 Hurricane, and Rezi 12: broadly, the ISO Nightshade and Han 86 came out ahead, PPSh-41 picked up small range improvements, and the FiNN and Type 73 were pulled back in line. But in its September 1 recap, Infinity Ward said it still wasn’t fully satisfied with TTK and would continue tuning weapons before launch.
Want your arsenal ready for whichever weapons dominate the launch meta? The Modern Warfare 4 All Weapon Leveling Boost covers every weapon class, max-level progression, and attachment unlocks in one order, so you can switch builds without grinding each weapon from scratch.
Tactical Sprint and Movement Could Still Change

Weekend 2 pulled Tactical Sprint off the universal baseline and tied it to the Blood Rush Perk, cut its speed by 4%, and trimmed slide distance (-10%), slide speed (-9%), and stamina (-8%) — offset by a faster sprint-to-fire transition on perk-enabled Tac Sprint and higher base sprint speeds for knives and pistols. Infinity Ward treated this as a beta experiment rather than a locked decision, so whether Tactical Sprint stays Perk-gated at launch is still an open question.
MW4 Also Tested Different Matchmaking
Matchmaking got a similar live test: MW4 ran both its regular skill-based approach and an Open playlist with less skill emphasis. Windows Central reported that Infinity Ward said its feedback showed stronger retention and satisfaction in skill-matched lobbies, while parts of the community argued tighter skill matching made strong players’ lobbies unnecessarily punishing.
Aim Assist Isn’t Final
Infinity Ward reduced aim assist’s overall impact across both Multiplayer and Warzone for Weekend 2, but was explicit that the beta values weren’t where it ultimately wanted to land. Further aim-assist tuning is one of the studio’s stated post-beta priorities.
Spawns, Killstreaks, and Gunsmith

- Spawns: Weekend 2 introduced another spawn pass, including a partial Hardpoint rework aimed at making respawns more predictable. Players also received temporary Battle Hardened protection after spawning, reducing the immediate effects of Flash and Concussion Grenades. Infinity Ward said the Hardpoint system still needed more work before launch.
- Killstreaks: Every Killstreak’s base cost increased by one kill, UAV health dropped by 60%, and the Artillery Beacon was toned down with fewer missiles and smaller damage radii.
- Gunsmith: Infinity Ward also made weapon builds less punishing by reducing Handling and Mobility penalties across Barrels, Magazines, Muzzles, Stocks, and Underbarrels. Several weapons received faster ADS and sprint-to-fire times as well.
A few visual fixes landed during the beta too. Operator Selection streaming was improved so character models were less likely to briefly appear at low quality, while temporal dithering was set to remain enabled consistently. One issue was still unfinished when the beta ended: long-distance hair rendering, which Infinity Ward said it was continuing to improve ahead of launch.
Warzone Zodiac Got Faster Movement and Better Visibility

Warzone movement went in a different direction from Multiplayer during Weekend 2. Weapon sprint speeds increased by 3–5%, dedicated melee sprint rose 3.5%, and ADS strafe speed increased by 6–10%, giving Resurgence a faster feel on Zodiac.
Gameplay changes: Players could revive downed teammates while prone, while the Sang 9mm replaced the previous infil/backup pistol. Infinity Ward also disabled the infil gas explosion that triggered during drop-in.
Killstreak warnings: Several HUD warning zones were reduced to better match their intended display areas:
- Bombing Run: 120m → 60m
- Impact Warhead: 76m → 25m
- Artillery Beacon: 120m → 40m
These were warning-radius changes only — they did not reduce the Killstreaks’ actual damage areas.
Visibility and audio: Zodiac received another pass on August 31, with adjusted color balance, reduced bloom during indoor/outdoor transitions, and brighter close-range character outlines. Enemy Ascender and parachute audio became easier to hear, while the distance at which Supply Boxes could be heard was reduced by roughly 50%.
Infinity Ward says Warzone movement, footstep audio, HUD readability, and overall map pacing are still being evaluated after the beta.
Which MW4 Beta Rewards Carry Over?

Player Level and weapon progression reset when the beta closed, but eligible Beta Rewards earned before shutdown carry over to launch on the linked Activision Account. That includes the “Beta Forged” Han 86 Weapon Blueprint for players who reached Level 30.
Other confirmed Beta Rewards include the Clockwork Charm from the Mobility Course Challenge and separate Combat Record Rewards: a classified Weapon Blueprint, Emblem, and Charm.
Activision also listed one unnamed classified challenge reward. Community reporting identified it as the Litmus weapon camo, while separate reporting put the requirement at 1,500 player kills, not eliminations. Activision never officially confirmed the Litmus name. None of these rewards can be earned retroactively now that the beta has ended.
The Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta Rewards Boost was designed for the limited beta window and is no longer relevant for earning new rewards. Players who secured eligible rewards before shutdown can still use them at launch, but missed beta rewards cannot be recovered through a boost.
MW4 Launch Timeline: October 16, October 23, and Season 1
Digital pre-orders get Campaign Early Access starting October 16, followed by MW4’s full launch on October 23 with Multiplayer and the new DMZ extraction mode. Season 1 and its Warzone integration follow shortly afterward — Activision has confirmed Zodiac returns as a Season 1 Resurgence map, alongside Hajin, the DMZ map being adapted for Battle Royale. That gives Zodiac a longer life than a typical beta map preview: rather than disappearing after testing, it becomes one of the game’s launch-window Warzone destinations.
You Can Still Bank Double XP for Launch
Beta Double XP is gone, but Monster Energy’s Call of Duty promotion runs from September 1, 2026 through March 31, 2027 on participating Monster Energy Original, Zero Sugar, and Zero Ultra 16 oz cans in the US. Each can adds 15 minutes of 2XP, up to 160 cans / 40 hours total. Codes uploaded before October 23 are banked for launch, so players can start accumulating MW4 2XP and rewards now rather than waiting for release day.

No additional beta has been confirmed in the announced plans covered here. Infinity Ward’s next steps focus on post-beta tuning and preparing for the October 23 launch, with further details expected before release.
Does MW4 beta progression carry over to the full game?
No. Normal Player Level, weapon progression, and weapon unlocks reset when the beta ended. Eligible Beta Rewards earned before shutdown are the exception and carry over to the full game on the linked Activision Account.
Which Modern Warfare 4 beta rewards carry over to launch?
Eligible earned rewards include the Beta Forged Han 86 Weapon Blueprint, the Clockwork Charm, and the classified Combat Record rewards, including a Weapon Blueprint, Emblem, and Charm. Other eligible beta cosmetics also carry over, but normal leveling and weapon progression do not.
Can you still get the Beta Forged Han 86 Blueprint?
No. The Beta Forged Han 86 Blueprint was the final reward on the standard beta progression track and required reaching Level 30 before the beta closed. Players who earned it can use it at launch, but it cannot be unlocked retroactively.
What was the hidden MW4 beta camo and how did you unlock it?
Community reporting identified the hidden reward as the Litmus weapon camo, while separate reporting put its requirement at 1,500 player kills—not eliminations—during the beta. Activision never officially confirmed the Litmus name, and the challenge is no longer available.
What is Infinity Ward changing after the MW4 beta?
Infinity Ward’s stated priorities include further TTK and weapon tuning, Perk-tier changes, aim-assist adjustments, spawn improvements, and Nintendo Switch 2 performance work. Warzone is also receiving continued attention to HUD readability, footsteps and audio, movement, and map pacing.
Is MW4 time to kill changing before launch?
Yes. Infinity Ward increased TTK slightly during Weekend 2 through weapon tuning rather than raising base health. Although average TTK was closer to the studio’s target by August 31, Infinity Ward said it was still not fully satisfied and would continue adjusting weapons before launch.
Will Tactical Sprint be available to everyone in MW4?
The final launch configuration has not been confirmed. During Weekend 2, Tactical Sprint was removed from the universal baseline and tied to the Blood Rush Perk, with its speed reduced by 4%. Infinity Ward treated this as a beta experiment rather than a locked launch decision.
Did Infinity Ward nerf aim assist in the MW4 beta?
Yes. Weekend 2 reduced aim assist’s overall impact across Multiplayer and Warzone. Infinity Ward also made clear that the beta values were not its final target, with further adjustments planned before launch.
What changes were made to MW4 spawns and Killstreaks?
Hardpoint spawning was partially reworked for better predictability, and players received temporary Battle Hardened protection after respawning. Killstreak costs increased by one kill, UAV health was reduced by 60%, and the Artillery Beacon received fewer missiles and smaller damage radii. Further spawn improvements remain a post-beta priority.
How did Gunsmith and weapon handling change during the beta?
Infinity Ward reduced Handling and Mobility penalties across Barrels, Magazines, Muzzles, Stocks, and Underbarrels, making weapon builds less punishing. A range of weapons also received faster ADS and sprint-to-fire times. The final launch status of these exact tuning values remains unconfirmed.
Which weapons were buffed or nerfed in the final MW4 beta update?
The ISO Nightshade and Han 86 received improvements, while the PPSh-41 gained small range increases. The FiNN LMG and Type 73 were pulled back, with additional tuning affecting weapons such as the Krait P68, Oris 8.6, Hyeon Burst, M4 Hurricane Apex, and Rezi 12. These changes are not necessarily the final launch balance.
What is the difference between Open matchmaking and skill-based matchmaking in MW4?
The beta tested both its regular skill-based matchmaking approach and an Open playlist with less emphasis on skill. Windows Central reported that Infinity Ward’s feedback indicated stronger retention and satisfaction in skill-matched lobbies, while some players argued tighter matching made successful players’ matches unnecessarily punishing. The final launch matchmaking configuration has not been detailed here.
What changed in Warzone Zodiac during the MW4 beta?
Warzone received faster movement, including 3–5% higher weapon sprint speeds, 3.5% faster dedicated melee sprinting, and 6–10% faster ADS strafing. Zodiac also gained visibility and audio improvements, while gameplay changes included prone revives, the Sang 9mm as the infil/backup pistol, and smaller Killstreak HUD warning radii. Those warning changes did not reduce actual damage areas.
Will Zodiac return to Warzone after the beta?
Yes. Activision confirmed that Zodiac returns as a Season 1 Resurgence map, alongside Hajin, the MW4 DMZ map being adapted for Battle Royale. Season 1 and Warzone integration are scheduled to follow the October 23 launch shortly afterward.
When does Modern Warfare 4 Campaign Early Access begin?
Campaign Early Access begins October 16, 2026, for eligible digital pre-orders. That is one week before the full game’s October 23 release.

Codes submitted before October 23 are banked for launch, so players can accumulate XP rewards before the full game releases.
Does MW4 weapon progression reset, and how do weapon unlocks work in the full game?
Yes. Beta weapon levels and normal progression reset for the full game, so players start fresh when MW4 launches. Military Rank progression unlocks core equipment and base weapons, while individual weapon leveling unlocks attachments. The full-game progression system also includes shared attachment unlocks and Bonus Level Ups, allowing previously unlocked attachments to be skipped on other weapons.
