Updated October 13, 2026 for the run-up to the WoW Forever launch on November 4, 2026. Written from the beta; details can change at launch.

You can level Tailoring from 1 to 225 in the WoW Forever beta, and the profession is built on the Classic structure with new recipes layered on top. Tailoring turns the cloth that humanoids drop into bags, cloth armor and enchanting materials, so a leveling tailor gathers most of the materials while questing. The beta level cap is 30, which means the Artisan range and much of the 225-300 progression cannot be fully tested before launch.

Tailoring rank gates

To train the next rank, you must satisfy the minimum skill and character level requirements.

RankSkill capRequirement
Apprentice75Character level 5
Journeyman150Character level 10 and 50 skill
Expert225Character level 20 and 125 skill
Artisan300Character level 35 and 200 skill

Trainer locations

Apprentice and Journeyman Tailoring are taught by trainers in the capital cities, and you can learn the profession once your character is at least level 5. Stormwind, Ironforge and Darnassus all have trainers, with lower-level trainers out in Elwynn Forest, Darkshore and Zephras Isle.

Leveling route 1-300

Make bolts first, then finished goods. The exact crafts and counts can vary, so treat any single route as a starting point and check prices before buying in bulk.

A few players say cloth drop rates are far too low next to skinning, mining and herbalism, which makes Tailoring a frustrating profession to level.

Cloth and materials

Buy about 10% extra cloth to cover yellow and green skill-up luck. Dye and thread come from trade vendors.

  • Linen and Wool: Duskwood, Wetlands.
  • Silk: Scarlet Monastery, Arathi Highlands.
  • Mageweave: Zul'Farrak.
  • Runecloth: Stratholme undead and Eastern Plaguelands scarlets (200 to 300 cloth per hour in a duo).

Some players point to fishing floating wreckage for iron bound trunks as an alternative source of silk and heavy leather.

Artisan range and the beta cap

Artisan Tailoring increases the maximum to 300 and needs 200 Tailoring and level 35.

Bags and gold

A few players doubt whether Tailoring stays useful at endgame, since raid gear outclasses crafted gear.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Tailoring level cap in WoW Forever?

300, reached through the Artisan rank, which requires 200 Tailoring and character level 35.

Which profession pairs best with Tailoring?

Enchanting, because you can disenchant what you sew for a self-feeding material loop.

Do I have to farm all the cloth myself?

No. It drops from humanoids as you quest, so a tailor who is leveling collects the majority passively, and you can purchase the remainder in bulk for the bracket you are advancing.
