How Does the Resource System Work in Windrose?

Windrose hides almost every crafting recipe behind the Discovery tab until you personally pick up the required raw material at least once. The first time you grab a piece of iron ore, its downstream recipes appear. Before that, they show as question marks regardless of how long you’ve been playing.

This means exploration is directly tied to crafting progression — sitting at your base and upgrading endlessly isn’t possible because recipes don’t exist until you’ve physically found the ingredients. The game pushes you onto new islands by gating recipes behind materials you can only find in harder biomes.

The co-op shortcut: you don’t need to harvest materials personally. If a squadmate drops an item on the ground and you pick it up, it permanently unlocks in your Discovery tab. Where Do You Find Copper in Windrose?

Copper Ore appears in caves on the starting island and other Coastal Jungle islands as bluish-white colored stone walls. You need a pickaxe and a torch — caves are always dark regardless of outdoor lighting. Some caves contain enemies. Mining at night outside is unnecessary since cave lighting doesn’t change with time of day.
• Clay appears between the ruins and the first copper deposit on the starting island. It’s one of the harder early materials to spot. Finding clay unlocks the Smelting Furnace, which unlocks ingots, which unlock mid-game weapons and armor — prioritize it as soon as you’ve established a basic base.

How Do You Get Gunpowder in Windrose?

Gunpowder is scarce in the early game and should be treated as precious. Two primary sources on Coastal Jungle islands: pirate camps (supply boxes contain 2–3 units each, camps respawn daily) and defeated pirates who occasionally drop it. The recipe for Homemade Gunpowder requires Sulfur, which only becomes available in the Foothills biome. Until then, every unit you have comes from raiding pirate camps.

Pearls from scallop shells function as emergency ammunition in a pinch — they’re not optimal, but they work and are far more common than gunpowder in the first several hours.

• Tumbaga Ingots — found in ruins requiring Rope to rappel into. This is the crafting material for weapon ascension at the Weaponsmith Station, converting a Rare weapon to Epic tier and unlocking its hidden passive.
