The Hall of Thanes, the new dungeon under the High Seat of Ironforge, has five quests. Alliance characters can take all of them; Horde characters only An Ancient Grudge and Important Heirlooms, whose givers are neutral. The best one, Old Ironforge Incursion, does not come from a person: it starts with a map you loot in Dun Morogh, so get that before you go down. The dungeon is built for levels 13 to 18.

Do
Take the tablet to King Magni Bronzebeard on the High Seat.
Reward
2,550 XP and 16 silver, no item

Pickup order and the way in

  1. Fly to Ironforge, or take the Deeprun Tram from Stormwind City.
  2. On the High Seat, take the cobwebbed passage on your left as you enter the throne room.
  3. Go down through Old Ironforge, past Afadra Dunwall above the gate and Thom Filch on the bridge, to the portal at the bottom.

The portal is at the bottom of Old Ironforge, under the High Seat, with no key or attunement. After a wipe the spirit healer is just outside the city, and a lever in Durgen Dirgehammer’s room opens a short way back to the entrance.

Bosses

Faldrim Anvilmar

The ghost of a thane walks the big hall right after the entrance, Anvilmar's Rest. Clear the packs on one side, wait for him to come your way and pull him alone. Interrupt his shadow blast, and remove Anvilmar's Curse if your group can: for 10 minutes it slows the target's attacks and casts by 20%. Talk to the Ghostly Attendant before this pull, since the kill is An Ancient Grudge.

Magmatus

A fire elemental in the Dark Iron dig east of the big hall, pulled together with a Dark Iron Summoner. Kill the summoner first, because he keeps bringing in Fiery Assistants, then turn Magmatus away from the group: his fire pulses hurt melee most, and Combust leaves one player burning for 12 seconds.

Plunder

A golem in the hall before the last room. He throws back everyone around him and charges a random player, so pull him back into the tunnel you came through, where no other pack can catch a knocked-back player.

Durgen Dirgehammer

The Dark Iron leader waits in the Reliquary of Kings with two Lesser Stone Golems. Clear his room first but leave the golems, which come with him; kill them quickly, then him, while healers watch the bleed on the tank. His death opens the vaults, where the heirlooms and the treaty tablet wait, and a lever opens a short way back to the entrance.

When a new Hall of Thanes quest turns up, it is added here as a card, with a line under Page updates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Horde do the Hall of Thanes quests?

Two of them: An Ancient Grudge from the Ghostly Attendant inside, and Important Heirlooms from Thom Filch, a Gadgetzan goblin. The other three are Alliance only, and the portal lies deep inside Ironforge.

How do you start Old Ironforge Incursion?

Kill Dark Iron Spies around Ironband's Compound in Dun Morogh until the Dark Iron Map drops. It starts Underground Map; Earthseer Farsen above the Gol'Bolar Quarry takes it and gives you Old Ironforge Incursion.

Where are the Dwarven Heirlooms?

Around the walls, chairs and tables of the dungeon, in more than one look. With Durgen Dirgehammer dead, the vaults behind him hold about two dozen, enough for everyone.

Where is the Treaty of Understanding?

Behind a vault door in the Reliquary of Kings, the room where you fight Durgen Dirgehammer. Bring the tablet to King Magni Bronzebeard for 2,550 XP and 16 silver.

How much XP do the Hall of Thanes quests give?

13,300 for the five Alliance quests, plus 1,050 for Underground Map, and 5,250 for Horde's two. Quest XP is not split in a group: everyone with the quest gets all of it.
