Start the main Alliance Deadmines quests in Stormwind's Dwarven District and Sentinel Hill; Alliance Paladins also collect a class quest near Ironforge, while VanCleef's letter begins another quest inside the dungeon. Horde Paladins have a separate weapon chain, and both factions can take the Darkmoon Faire treasure quest.

Stormwind: Dwarven District quests

These three pickups do not require an earlier quest, and all three are shareable. Two objectives are in the caves before the instance portal, so you can finish those without entering the dungeon. WoW Forever Dungeons can handle the instance runs these pickups lead to, with the group and timing.

Collecting Memories — Wilder Thistlenettle

Take this quest at level 14 from Wilder Thistlenettle in the Dwarven District, around 65, 21 or 70.2, 40.8. The more precise coordinates for the first location are 65.2, 21.6.

Collect four Miners' Union Cards from the undead in the outside tunnels and return them to Wilder; Skeletal Miners, Undead Dynamiters and Undead Excavators carry them. These enemies are elite, and the cards can take extra kills because their drop rate is low.

Choose Tunneler's Boots, Dusty Mining Gloves or Worn Miner's Waistcord; the turn-in also grants 100 Ironforge reputation.

Oh Brother… — Wilder Thistlenettle

Wilder offers this quest from level 15 at the same location. Kill Foreman Thistlenettle in the undead section of the outside caves, loot Thistlenettle's Badge and bring it back to Wilder.

The reward choices are Miner's Revenge, Miner's Workgloves and Miner's Workboots, alongside 100 Ironforge reputation.

Underground Assault — Shoni the Shilent

Find Shoni the Shilent in the Dwarven District at roughly 55, 13 or 62.6–62.7, 34.2; another precise location is 55.6, 12.6. You can accept the quest directly or take the breadcrumb from Gnoarn in Ironforge first.

The minimum level is 15. Loot the Gnoam Sprecklesprocket from Sneed's Shredder inside the instance and return it to Shoni.

Choose Polar Gauntlets, Sable Wand, Bravo's Armbands or Dreamer's Leggings; completion gives 100 reputation each with Stormwind and the Gnomeregan Exiles.

Westfall: Sentinel Hill quests

The Defias Brotherhood — Gryan Stoutmantle

Start with Gryan Stoutmantle at Sentinel Hill, around 56.2, 47.6 or 56.4, 47.5. The dungeon objective requires level 14 and completion of the six earlier quests in the chain.

The chain takes you from Westfall to Lakeshire in Redridge Mountains, back to Westfall, then to Stormwind and back again. Finish the Defias Traitor escort and return to the tower for the dungeon assignment.

Kill Edwin VanCleef, collect his head and return to Gryan for a choice of Chausses of Westfall, Tunic of Westfall or Staff of Westfall, plus 200 Stormwind reputation. You can share the final quest with someone who has completed its prerequisites.

For a healer choosing among these rewards, we'd favor Staff of Westfall: it is listed among the dungeon's recommended healer items and adds 2% movement speed in Elwynn Forest, Westfall, Redridge Mountains and the Deadmines.

Red Silk Bandanas — Scout Riell

Scout Riell stands at the top of the Sentinel Hill tower, around 56.5–56.7, 47.3–47.4. You need level 14 and the preceding Defias Brotherhood quests, including the escort, before her quest becomes available.

Gather 10 Red Silk Bandanas from Defias enemies inside the dungeon and around its entrance, then return to Riell. You can share the quest with players who have finished the prerequisite chain.

The reward choices are Solid Shortblade, Scrimshaw Dagger, Piercing Axe and Monastic Hammer, plus 100 Stormwind reputation.

Destruction in Deadmines — Alba Fairmoon

Begin Alba Fairmoon's Toxic Soil storyline at Sentinel Hill with Testing the Wells; her starting coordinates are 52.4, 53.0, 52.5, 53.0 or 52.6, 53.2. The dungeon quest's minimum level is listed as 9, 12 or 14.

Work through the preparation in this order:

  1. Finish Testing the Wells, Murloc Gills, The State of the Mines and Moonbrook Espionage in Westfall, then take Explosive Consultation to Stormwind.
  2. Meet Sprite Jumpsprocket in the Dwarven District and complete A Dynamite Plan by bringing her 10 Rough or Coarse Dynamite, obtained through crafting, trading or the auction house.
  3. Complete the Detonation at a Distance steps, which involve obtaining a remote detonator from SI:7, then take the returning Explosive Consultation step back to Westfall.
  4. Accept Destruction in Deadmines from Alba before entering the instance.
  5. Use the Extra-Destructive Explosives beside the forge in the Goblin Foundry, in Gilnid's room.
  6. Leave through the rear exit and meet Alba in the hills behind Moonbrook at 38.6, 83.6.
  7. Take the follow-up with the same name and use the detonator to finish the chain.

The explosives-placement quest gives 50 Stormwind reputation and has no gear reward.

Defias Traitor escort failure

Defias Traitor can disappear near zone or area boundaries, immediately failing the escort; the issue was under investigation on November 5. This can interrupt the prerequisite route to the Sentinel Hill dungeon quests.

We'd move on to other quests if repeated failures are consuming your session: the reported failure involves the NPC disappearing. The WoW Forever escort quest issues article covers this interruption in more detail.

Ironforge: the Alliance Paladin quest

The Test of Righteousness — Jordan Stilwell

Alliance Paladins can take this level-20 quest from Jordan Stilwell at the Ironforge gates in Dun Morogh, around 52, 36, 52.4, 36.8 or 52.6, 36.8. Its prerequisites include The Tome of Valor chain; Duthorian Rall in Stormwind Cathedral at 40.0, 29.8 is a starting contact.

The preparation route includes The Tome of Valor steps through Stormwind, Ironforge and Westfall before you return to Stormwind for The Test of Righteousness and meet Jordan. Jordan's Weapon Notes send you after four materials:

MaterialWhere to get it
Whitestone Oak LumberGoblin Woodcarvers in the Deadmines lumber room, near Sneed's Shredder.
Jordan's Smithing HammerA wooden box in Shadowfang Keep's Fel Steed Stable.
Jordan's Refined Ore ShipmentBailor's Ore Shipment, from Bailor Stonehand in Thelsamar, Loch Modan, at 36.0, 45.0.
Purified Kor GemSeeking the Kor Gem, from Thundris Windweaver in Auberdine, Darkshore, at 37.4, 40.2.

Return the materials to Jordan; the completed weapon chain rewards Verigan's Fist. The Deadmines visit supplies only the lumber portion of that work.

Inside the dungeon: The Unsent Letter

At level 16, loot An Unsent Letter from Edwin VanCleef and use it to start The Unsent Letter; you cannot pick this quest up in town beforehand, and it is not shareable.

Deliver it to Baros Alexston in Stormwind's Cathedral Square at 49.0, 30.2. The turn-in gives 50 Stormwind reputation and leads to Bazil Thredd, beginning a longer storyline involving the Stockades.

The letter delivery itself has no item reward; Seal of Wrynn comes at the end of the later chain.

Horde Deadmines quests and the Darkmoon Faire

The regular Stormwind and Sentinel Hill assignments are Alliance quests; Horde access comes through the Paladin weapon chain and the faction-neutral fortune quest.

Horde Paladin weapon chain

Horde Paladins have a level-20 equivalent to The Test of Righteousness, with Lumina Windsinger inside the Silverpine Forest crypt at roughly 43, 40. Its chain begins at Bandarion Keep in Tirisfal Glades, and the Wolfsbane chain requires Whitestone Oak Lumber from Deadmines Goblin Woodcarvers.

Your Fortune Awaits You… — both factions

Both Alliance and Horde characters can take this Darkmoon Faire quest from level 10, using Sayge's Fortune #24 obtained from Sayge.

  1. Carry Sayge's Fortune #24 to the Deadmines.
  2. Enter the instance and interact with the Mysterious Deadmines Chest near the beginning.
  3. Collect the Mysterious Lockbox reward.

Pickup order and the Moonbrook entrance

For an Alliance run with the main chains ready, we'd combine the Stormwind errands into one visit: both Westfall chains send you there, and the three Dwarven District quests are available on that stop.

  1. Start both Westfall chains, then handle the Defias Brotherhood trip to Lakeshire and return to Westfall.
  2. Complete the Stormwind portions of those chains while collecting Wilder's two quests and Shoni's quest.
  3. Return to Sentinel Hill, finish the escort prerequisites and collect Gryan's final assignment, Riell's bandana quest and Alba's explosives quest.
  4. If you are an Alliance Paladin, have Jordan's lumber objective active before the run.
  5. Travel south from Sentinel Hill to Moonbrook and enter the mine inside the ruined building; follow the main cave route to the instance portal.
  6. Complete Wilder's two objectives in the outside tunnels before crossing the portal.

Gather your party at the mine entrance and move through the tunnels together: elites occupy the approach. Avoid large pulls in the first two rooms, where roaming elites can join the fight.

For Horde, take the zeppelin to Grom'gol Base Camp, swim north along the shoreline to southern Westfall, then head to Moonbrook.

A level 18–23 group fits the recommended range for the run. The back tunnel from Ironclad Cove exits onto the Westfall coast and takes you to Alba's turn-in without retracing the mines.

The WoW Forever The Deadmines Boost handles organizing and completing the run for you.

What players report

One player on the official WoW: Forever forums reported collecting three quests in Stormwind, with two objectives completed before the instance, and two more in Westfall after a long prerequisite chain. One player on the official forums reported that completing Westfall's quests, including the Deadmines quests, took their character from around level 11–12 to 18.
