You earn FF14 Allagan Tomestones of Poetics mainly from older level 50, 60, 70, 80 and 90 dungeons, trials and raids, then spend them on previous expansions’ equipment and other items. You must reach level 50 on at least one class or job to receive them, and you can hold up to 2,000.
FFXIV tomestone recap: which currency do you need?
Allagan tomestones are currencies you exchange for equipment, with Poetics covering earlier expansions and Mathematics and Mnemonics covering level 100 gear. Choose the currency that matches the equipment you want.

How to farm Allagan Tomestones of Poetics
Dungeons, trials, raids and roulettes
Focus your duty farming on former expansion endgame encounters at the level milestones listed above; ordinary leveling content does not award Poetics. Duty Roulette offers another way to earn tomestones through its completion rewards. Check the displayed rewards before choosing a queue.
Build your routine around duties you also want to complete for another reason. Spend before reaching your capacity, then return to the activities you enjoy.
The Hunt and hunt trains
The Hunt is another source of Poetics. Hunt rewards vary with the region, and only Elite Marks from the latest expansion award the weekly capped endgame tomestone.
To find a hunt train, look for a Discord community serving your data center and check its schedules; linkshells help coordinate participants in game. You can ask in shout chat at a hunt for a linkshell invitation.
Allied Society Quests
Combat Allied Society Quests from earlier expansions award Poetics, while the latest expansion’s combat societies can award level-cap tomestones. Pick these when you want to combine currency farming with society progress.
Wondrous Tails and other activities
Wondrous Tails, treasure maps, quests and duties can provide Poetics. Field Operations and Deep Dungeons are further sources. Choose these alongside your main routine rather than treating every currency session as a separate chore.

The following sets are the strongest augmented Poetics options for their respective expansions, including weapons, armor and accessories. Older, weaker sets remain available for appearance collecting.

Vendor unlock requirements and city alternatives
Auriana’s Ironworks exchange is available after you reach level 50 and unlock Poetics; you do not need to finish The Ultimate Weapon to use her shop. The Sundry Splendors vendors in the three starting cities are Rowena’s Representatives.
Hismena’s Shire exchange becomes accessible when you reach Idyllshire during the level 58 main scenario quest A Great New Nation, before completing Heavensward. The Ishgard representative requires completion of Heavensward.
For Scaevan, Cryptlurker and Credendum, both the original hub vendor and the corresponding city alternative require completion of Stormblood, Shadowbringers and Endwalker respectively.

If a city exchange NPC is missing from its location, you have not met its quest requirement. Use the original hub exchange where your progress allows it.

Materials
Poetics also purchase crafting ingredients and other materials. Buy for a specific project before spending simply to empty your balance.

Other options include Thavnairian Rain for 50, Doman Reiyaku for 100, Kholusian Rain and Undersea Rain for 50 each, and Crystalline Rain and Aetherial Sealant for 100 each. Crucible Rain and Dharmic Rain cost 50 each, while Divine Rain costs 100.
Minions and music
Collectibles offer another way to spend spare currency. Choose the ones you want rather than buying duplicates without a purpose.

Materials to sell for gil
You can convert Unidentifiable Shell into Grade 3 Shroud Topsoil, or Unidentifiable Ore into Grade 3 Thanalan Topsoil, through Bertana in Idyllshire at approximately X:6 Y:5. Check your market before buying materials for resale: demand and competing listings affect which purchase pays off.

Current level-cap tomestone farming and spending
For current endgame currencies, you generally need to perform the activity on a class at the level cap. Available sources include level-cap dungeons, trials and raids, roulettes, hunts, PvP, Deep Dungeons, combat Allied Society Quests, and level-cap Variant, Criterion, treasure dungeon and Field Operation content.
Alliance raids from level 60 onward can also award these currencies under the level-cap job requirement.
Wondrous Tails is an exception: after completing the main scenario quest Dawntrail, you can qualify for level-cap tomestones even when collecting the journal, doing its tasks and handing it in on a job below the cap. In Frontline, eligibility uses the level of the job you queued on, regardless of job changes inside the duty.
The Rhodina Consortium’s Tomestone Exchange vendors in Solution Nine handle the current expansion’s exchanges. Armor and accessories require currency, while current expansion tomestone weapons also require an inventory token. Universal Tomestone 3.0 is the token associated with Bygone Brass weapons and AAC Heavyweight raid items.
How to get Universal Tomestone 2.0
Universal Tomestone 2.0 is an inventory item obtained by exchanging items from AAC Cruiserweight, and it is used for Historia weapons. It is separate from the Mathematics currency used for the Historia equipment tier.
The general weapon-token system provides a normal-raid exchange route and a drop route from the second encounter of the corresponding Savage tier. Older augmented weapons sold for Poetics require no additional tomestone token.
What happens to old tomestones?
Poetics remain in use as the currency for discontinued tomestone equipment rather than rotating out with each tier. Other currencies become unavailable and are later removed; unconverted balances are lost when removal occurs.
Auriana in Mor Dhona handles exchanges of obsolete currencies during their available conversion period, at a reduced rate. Check the currency’s conversion window before leaving a balance unused.
Heliometry stopped being obtainable in Patch 7.4, but you can exchange remaining Heliometry for Mathematics until Patch 8.0. Quetzalli gear is now purchased with Sacks of Nuts in Tuliyollal. Aesthetics were removed in Patch 7.4, and Neo Kingdom gear is also available for Sacks of Nuts in Tuliyollal.
Irregular tomestones belong to Moogle Treasure Trove events: they occupy inventory slots and are exchanged with Itinerant Moogles in the starting cities. Treat them separately from your Poetics balance.
