Blizzard has contingency options to address WoW Forever dead servers if a ruleset loses too many players to sustain its community. Those options remain a last resort: separate rulesets are still the intended structure, with intervention reserved for necessity.
How does the ruleset structure change your choice?
Forever uses a realmless structure, with effectively one large server for each ruleset rather than several separate servers offering the same rules. Its launch choices are PvE, PvP, RP and the newly added RP-PvP option.
In WoW Classic, departures and character transfers left some realms struggling to support dungeon and raid groups or functioning economies; free transfers became an escape route in some cases. Forever's fallback tools instead target the auction house and access to instanced groups.

Blizzard's current assessment is that the two RP populations should remain viable, despite its earlier concern about dividing them.
- PvE and PvP players: Keeping economies distinct is part of the reason for separation, since farming gold and items is easier under PvE conditions. Combining communities also raises questions about trading between rulesets and possible restrictions.

When can you start playing?
WoW Forever launches on November 4, 2026. Hardcore, the permadeath ruleset, is planned to follow before spring 2027.
