Blizzard is investigating bugged WoW Forever escort quests that can fail immediately when their quest giver dies or disappears. If avoiding repeat attempts is your priority, moving on to other quests is the practical choice.

Which escorts can fail?

In the bugged WoW Forever escort quests, Ruul, Gilthares Firebough and Defias Traitor can disappear as they approach or cross boundaries between zones or areas, failing the escort.

What changed for Escorting Erland?

Blizzard's November 5 hotfix made Deathstalker Erland return sooner for Escorting Erland, describing his respawn as “much more quickly.”

If your escort disappears

Prioritize other quests if another failed attempt would spoil your session. Treat returning later as a way to avoid spending more time on retries, rather than a guaranteed workaround.

If you are waiting for Erland

A retry makes more sense when the obstacle is the wait for the NPC to return. Keep that separate from deciding whether to repeat an escort that disappears along its route.

What other players reported

  • Starting together: Four players on the official WoW: Forever forums reported in September–October that someone starting an escort before teammates finished the prerequisite left those teammates without the join prompt and needing another run.
  • Group invites: Two players on the official forums reported in October that accepting an invite during an escort changed their layer, made Lumina disappear, and left a quest they could not abandon through the interface.
  • Quest-log restrictions: Two players on the official forums reported that the beta's escort invitation checked an old 20-quest limit and rejected them despite available space.
  • A successful Lumina retry: One player on the official forums reported on October 5 that leaving the group, reducing the quest log to 20 or fewer entries, and using a macro to abandon the stuck quest let them accept Lumina's escort again and finish it.
  • Repeating the attempt: One player on the official forums reported in September that receiving credit took three attempts at the same escort.
