You pick up The Great Outdoors WoW Forever quest at level 4 from the camping NPC in your starting zone, and you hand it back to the same NPC. Sit by that NPC's Basic Campfire until Boosted Rest appears, roughly one minute. If the sitting objective does not register, type /sit a second time while you are already seated.

Where to pick up The Great Outdoors

The quest giver is the camping NPC you meet just outside your first town. You can accept the quest at level 4; it is a level 6 quest and awards 410 XP.

The quest giver depends on your starting zone and faction. Raan Wildwind on Zephras Isle serves both factions. Eleanor Shackleton is at Brill, and Raan Wildwind is at Shen'dar Village.

How to complete the campfire objectives

The quest has two objectives: sit near the campfire, and gain the Boosted Rest buff.

  1. Use the Basic Campfire next to the NPC who gave you the quest.
  2. Sit by it with X, the default sit key, or type /sit.
  3. Watch for a Welcoming Campfire buff in the top right and its 60-second countdown.
  4. Wait for the countdown to reach zero; you then gain Boosted Rest and finish the resting objective.
  5. Speak to your original quest giver once both objectives are complete.

Waiting the full minute also gives a small Rested XP buff.

The /sit bug and workaround

The "Sit near the campfire" objective can fail to register when you sit. If it does not complete, type /sit again while your character is already seated; that second command is the workaround.

The second /sit only fixes the sitting objective. You still need to wait out the countdown for Boosted Rest.

The workaround helps some players but is not a guaranteed server fix. If your quest log and addon panel do not update, forcing a guide to show Complete will not grant credit.

Record which part failed — the sit, the countdown, or the objective update — and put the quest name and log text in a bug report; a screenshot helps.

If the quest still will not complete

We'd try the second /sit before abandoning the quest: it targets the sitting objective that is stuck, while abandoning and retaking is only a fallback.

If the double /sit does not work, leave the quest and return later; keep a note of it so you do not lose track.

For Eleanor Shackleton's or Raan Wildwind's version, abandoning the quest, accepting it again from that NPC and sitting by the fire once more is a fallback, though it did not fix the problem for every player. For Raan's quest, if Boosted Rest still has not appeared after several minutes, log out and back in before resting again.

Check the quest log and any follow-up from the NPC before moving on; sitting for a while is not proof the quest completed.

Rewards and next step

The Great Outdoors WoW Forever quest awards 410 XP on turn-in.

The completion text sends you to learn a tradeskill from trainers in the village nearby. The next quest is Camping 101: Cooking, followed by the Camping 101 quest for your profession. Cooking training is next, and our WoW Forever cooking guide covers that profession.

The quest is the tutorial for the new camping system. Our WoW Forever campfire buffs guide covers those campfire buffs.

What worked for other players

Players on the official WoW: Forever forums report that typing /sit twice while already sitting completes the objective; 15 players shared this fix: “Type /sit and while sitting, type /sit again.”

Ten players report the "Sit near the campfire" objective still did not complete even after they sat by the fire and received the buff.

Three players say using the sit hotkey and then typing /sit worked, and another three say clearing the NPC target before sitting worked.

Two players report that typing /sit alone did not complete the objective, and two others say abandoning and re-picking up the quest did not help.

One player reports that talking to the NPC by the campfire completed the quest even though the sit objective still showed incomplete.
