FFXIV Patch 7.55 launches after maintenance on July 28, 2026, and it’s a big one for side content. It expands the Occult Crescent, finishes off the Phantom Weapons, wraps up a few long-running questlines, and adds a new large-scale raid with two difficulty options.

This guide covers:

  • Release date and confirmed content
  • Occult Crescent: North Horn and new Phantom Jobs
  • Forked Tower: Magic (Normal and Extreme) entry requirements
  • Possible Final Fantasy V boss references
  • New gear, mounts, and glamour previews
  • The final Phantom Weapon stage
  • Hildibrand and Allied Society capstone quests
  • Crystalline Conflict Season 20’s end date
  • What to finish before the patch drops

Preview disclaimer: Square Enix has said the screenshots below show work in progress, so anything here could still change before launch.

What’s In (and What Isn’t)

Two things 7.55 is not bringing: the next Main Scenario chapter and the Beastmaster limited job. Both land in Patch 7.56 instead, though the July 25 Letter from the Producer LIVE will show Beastmaster gameplay early.

Haven’t reached Dawntrail’s endgame content yet? The FFXIV Dawntrail MSQ Completion Boost clears the remaining story quests and unlocks the activities you need before moving into Patch 7.55 content.

What 7.55 does bring is arguably one of Dawntrail’s biggest non-MSQ updates yet, built around the second Occult Crescent zone.

Occult Crescent: North Horn

North Horn continues the South Horn story — Ketenramm and crew are still stuck in Shades’ Triangle, now pushing into the island’s northern half. Confirmed so far:

  • Knowledge Level cap raised to 40
  • Multiple new Phantom Jobs
  • New enemies, Critical Encounters, and FATEs
  • New gear with more upgrade stages
  • Catch-up benefits for players who already upgraded South Horn gear

Square Enix hasn’t published the unlock quest or entry requirements yet, so the safe move is to just finish your current Occult Crescent progress and let the patch notes fill in the rest.

Preview shots show a real shift from South Horn: ash-covered ground mixed with dark forest, waterways, ruins, floating spheres, and green crystalline formations. One image shows a large enclosed plaza that might host a FATE or story battle — nothing confirmed, so don’t read too much into it.

Forked Tower: Magic — Normal vs. Extreme

The new raid supports both difficulties, and the entry systems differ meaningfully:

FeatureNormalExtreme
PurposeStory completionHigh-difficulty challenge
Max players4848
Ciphers requiredNoNo
EntryRegister at the entranceEnter North Horn with an alliance of 3 parties
Dedicated instanceNot applicableAlliance of 3 parties, 12+ players
Instance handlingLottery if over 48 registerDedicated instance, immediate access

Worth noting: Normal doesn’t require a premade group to register, and losers of the lottery get priority next time. That’s not the same as saying it’s solo-friendly — it just removes the need to organize a full alliance before signing up.

Forked Tower Bosses and FFV References (Speculation)

Ffxiv Patch 7.55 Trail To The Heavens Guide: North Horn &Amp; Relics
Ffxiv Patch 7.55 Guide: Everything Coming On July 28 12

Everything here is inference from screenshots and the original Final Fantasy V — not confirmed mechanics. Treat it as pre-patch theorizing.

  • Necrophobe: In FFV, four Barrier enemies protect Necrophobe until cleared, and Gilgamesh can show up to land the finishing hit under certain story conditions. The FFXIV screenshot shows two barrier heads channeling ice and two channeling lightning — maybe alternating safe zones or paired mechanics, but nothing’s confirmed, including which difficulty the shot is even from.
  • Omniscient: FFV’s Omniscient resets the fight if hit by physical attacks, which FFXIV would need to rework for mixed physical/magical parties. Clock imagery in the background art has people speculating about a time theme, but Omniscient hasn’t even been confirmed as a boss yet. File under “fun theory,” not “expected encounter.”

North Horn Rewards: Gear, Mounts, FFV Glamours

Three new gear sets in the preview appear to reference the Freelancer outfits of Bartz, Lenna, and Faris. Square Enix has confirmed North Horn adds new gear and upgrade stages, but names, stats, roles, and acquisition are all unannounced — and it’s unclear if these sets are progression gear or pure glamour.

New mounts were also shown alongside the finalized weapons and gear, but without names or acquisition details, so it’s not clear yet whether they’ll come from North Horn, Forked Tower: Magic, achievements, or somewhere else.

Final Phantom Weapons

Ffxiv Patch 7.55 Guide: Everything Coming On July 28 13

7.55 brings the final stage of Dawntrail’s relic weapon series. Both the special site and the producer broadcast confirm this is the last enhancement stage. Gerolt’s back on enhancement duty, though the teaser hints at more technical headaches before the weapons reach their completed forms.

Five designs previewed so far:

JobDesign
WarriorMassive chained stone hammer, orange-red energy
ViperTwinblades with orange, blue, crystalline effects
DancerPink, gold, pale-green chakrams with ribbon trails
White MagePink-and-turquoise cane, ornate circular head
Book weaponDark grimoire, blue-green and orange arcane effects

Square Enix hasn’t confirmed the book weapon’s job — Summoner or Scholar is still a toss-up until the item list drops.

Item level, secondary stats, materia slots, and customization are all unrevealed, so it’s too early to call best-in-slot or Ultimate performance either way.

On the grind: past Phantom Weapon stages have used different systems — some tied to Occult Crescent progress, others to tomestones — and Square Enix hasn’t said which applies here. Don’t stockpile a specific currency yet.

Hildibrand Finale & Allied Society Capstone

Ffxiv Patch 7.55 Phantom Weapon Upgrades &Amp; North Horn Guide
Ffxiv Patch 7.55 Guide: Everything Coming On July 28 14

The Dawntrail run of The Inconceivably Further Hildibrand Adventures wraps up in 7.55. Hardiboiled is furious that Hildibrand let Carnelian escape, while Hildibrand and Nashu continue the investigation independently of the fuming detective—including, per one preview shot, a detour through a room full of dancing zombies.

Also arriving: the combined Allied Society capstone questline tying together the Pelupelu, Yok Huy, and Mamool Ja stories. The Turali Travel Agency is doing well enough that Liplu and Wawkesa are planning something new, sending the special advisor back through familiar parts of Tural. Unlock requirements and rewards aren’t detailed yet.

Crystalline Conflict Season 20

Season 20 closes with 7.55 maintenance. Ranking rewards go to the top 300 players on the JP, NA, and EU data centers, and the top 100 on Oceania. You need at least one ranked match played during Season 20 to qualify — earlier seasons don’t count.

Running out of time before Season 20 ends? Our FFXIV Crystalline Conflict Boost helps advance your target rank, Trophy Crystal earnings, and Series Malmstone progress before Patch 7.55 maintenance begins.

How to Prepare

Ffxiv Patch 7.55 Guide: No New Msq, Raids, Relics &Amp; Rewards
Ffxiv Patch 7.55 Guide: Everything Coming On July 28 15
  • Finish South Horn and any remaining Occult Crescent goals now.
  • Complete the current Phantom Weapon questline through A Phantom Reborn at least once. After that, additional job weapons upgrade via Waning Arcanite exchanges with Dodokkuli.
  • Catch up on Hildibrand through Meteorites and Meteor-wrongs so the finale isn’t gated by an unfinished chapter.
  • Finish available Pelupelu, Yok Huy, and Mamool Ja storylines if you want the capstone the moment it unlocks — daily caps mean you can’t cram reputation at the last minute.
  • Don’t pre-farm any weapon-upgrade currency until the patch notes confirm requirements.
  • Clear some inventory, Armoury Chest, and retainer space — North Horn and the final Phantom Weapon stage will likely add new items.
  • Going for Extreme on day one? Start organizing your alliance now — you’ll need 3 parties and 12+ players for the dedicated instance.
  • Play at least one ranked Crystalline Conflict match before maintenance if Season 20 rewards matter to you.
  • Decide now whether you want the FFV nostalgia to hit blind or want to look up strategies immediately — everything above is speculation until the patch notes say otherwise.

FFXIV on Nintendo Switch 2

Final Fantasy Xiv 7.55 Full Guide: What’s New On July 28
Ffxiv Patch 7.55 Guide: Everything Coming On July 28 16

Separate from 7.55: FFXIV is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in August 2026, with official service following roughly a month of pre-release access. A Japanese broadcast on August 1 will cover product details and show gameplay on Switch 2 hardware, though it hasn’t been tied to an exact pre-release start date.

Summary

7.55 is a side-content patch, not a story patch — North Horn, Forked Tower: Magic in both flavors, the final Phantom Weapon stage, the Allied Society capstone, and the end of Crystalline Conflict Season 20 are all confirmed. The FFV boss speculation is fun to chew on, but it’s speculation right up until the patch notes prove otherwise.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the FFXIV Patch 7.55 release date?

FFXIV Patch 7.55 is scheduled to launch following maintenance on July 28, 2026. Square Enix has confirmed the date, although the complete maintenance window and exact server-opening time have not yet been announced.

What content is included in FFXIV Patch 7.55?

Patch 7.55 adds Occult Crescent: North Horn, new Phantom Jobs, new FATEs and Critical Encounters, and Normal and Extreme versions of Forked Tower: Magic. It also introduces the final Phantom Weapon stage, the Dawntrail Hildibrand finale, Allied Society capstone quests, new gear and mounts, and the end of Crystalline Conflict Season 20.

How do you unlock Occult Crescent: North Horn in FFXIV?

Square Enix has not yet published the exact North Horn starting quest, NPC, or formal unlock requirements. North Horn directly continues the South Horn storyline, so players should complete the currently available Occult Crescent quests before Patch 7.55 arrives.

Do you need to complete South Horn before entering North Horn?

North Horn is a direct continuation of South Horn, making completion of the existing storyline the safest preparation. However, the precise unlock requirement has not been officially listed yet and should be confirmed in the Patch 7.55 notes.

What is the maximum Knowledge Level in North Horn?

The Knowledge Level cap increases to 40 in Occult Crescent: North Horn. Knowledge Level represents a player’s individual progression within Occult Crescent and is separate from their normal combat-job level.

What new Phantom Jobs are coming in FFXIV Patch 7.55?

Square Enix has confirmed that North Horn will introduce multiple new Phantom Jobs. Their names, abilities, unlock methods, and role combinations have not yet been fully revealed.

How do you unlock Forked Tower: Magic?

The exact quest requirement for unlocking Forked Tower: Magic has not been announced. The raid is part of North Horn progression, with Normal-mode registration handled at the tower entrance and Extreme accessed through a dedicated alliance instance.

What is the difference between Forked Tower: Magic Normal and Extreme?

Normal is intended to provide a more accessible route through the raid’s story and allows individual players to register at the entrance without preparing a full alliance. Extreme is the high-difficulty version and requires an organized alliance of three parties to generate a dedicated North Horn instance.

How many players are required for Forked Tower: Magic Extreme?

Both versions support up to 48 players. To generate the dedicated Extreme instance, players must enter North Horn as an alliance of three parties containing at least 12 total players.

Do you need ciphers to enter Forked Tower: Magic?

No. Neither Forked Tower: Magic Normal nor Extreme requires ciphers for entry. This removes one of the major access barriers associated with the earlier Forked Tower content.

How do you unlock the final Phantom Weapon upgrade in Patch 7.55?

The final-stage starting quest and exact requirements have not yet been revealed. Players should complete the existing Phantom Weapon questline through A Phantom Reborn at least once and prepare any additional job weapons they want to upgrade through Waning Arcanite exchanges with Dodokkuli.

What currency or materials will the final Phantom Weapons require?

Square Enix has not announced the final upgrade materials, currency, objectives, or tomestone costs. Previous stages have used several different progression systems, so players should avoid stockpiling a speculative currency until the official patch notes are available.

Will the final Phantom Weapons be best-in-slot or dyeable?

Their item level, secondary attributes, materia slots, stat customization, and dye options have not yet been revealed. It is therefore too early to determine whether they will be best-in-slot for individual jobs or optimal in level-synced Ultimate encounters.

Does FFXIV Patch 7.55 include new MSQ quests or Beastmaster?

No. Patch 7.55 does not add the next Main Scenario Quest chapter or the Beastmaster limited job. Both are scheduled for Patch 7.56.

What should you complete before FFXIV Patch 7.55 launches?

Complete the South Horn storyline, existing Occult Crescent progression, and the current Phantom Weapon chain through A Phantom Reborn. Players should also finish Hildibrand through Meteorites and Meteor-wrongs, progress the Pelupelu, Yok Huy, and Mamool Ja societies, clear inventory space, and complete any remaining Crystalline Conflict Season 20 goals before maintenance begins.
