Updated October 17, 2026 for the TBC Anniversary realms.

To level Herbalism from 1 to 375 on TBC Anniversary realms, you progress across five training brackets by gathering Azeroth nodes through skill 300, visiting an Outland trainer, and picking Outland plants through skill 375. The profession requires no tools in your inventory and pairs directly with trades like Alchemy. Following this streamlined tbc herbalism guide path helps you unlock lucrative end-game reagents and Flask components like Mana Thistle.

Skill brackets and trainer locations

Every tier requires a minimum character level and a trainer visit before you can raise your maximum cap.

RankRequired character levelSkill bracketTrainer location
Apprentice51–75Azeroth capital cities
Journeyman1075–150Azeroth capital cities
Expert20150–225Azeroth capital cities
Artisan35225–300Azeroth capital cities
Master50300–375Honor Hold or Thrallmar

Alliance players train Master Herbalism at Honor Hold from Rorelien near coordinates (54, 66) in Hellfire Peninsula. Horde players learn Master Herbalism at Thrallmar from Ruak Stronghorn near coordinates (52, 36). In Azeroth, Alliance players can visit Tannysa in Stormwind, Reyna Stonebranch in Ironforge, Firodren Mooncaller in Darnassus, or Cemmorhan in The Exodar. Horde players can train with Jandi in Orgrimmar, Martha Alliestar in Undercity, Komin Winterhoof in Thunder Bluff, or Botanist Nathera in Silvermoon City.

If you would rather bypass the continuous open-world farm, the TBC Anniversary Herbalism Boost handles gathering routes and node progression directly.

How gathering works

Keep the Find Herbs ability active on your minimap to show nearby nodes as yellow points. You cannot track mining nodes or hunter tracking spells at the same time, because only one tracking type can run at once.

Node difficulty relies on standard tradeskill colors:

  • Red: Your skill level is too low to gather the plant.
  • Orange: Attempts may fail, but every successful harvest guarantees a skill increase.
  • Yellow: Attempts rarely fail, and most successful harvests award a skill point.
  • Green: Attempts rarely fail, but you will rarely gain a skill point.
  • Gray: Harvesting never fails and will never grant a skill point.

In The Burning Crusade, nodes do not give character experience, do not glow, and can only be picked by one player before despawning for 15 to 45 minutes.

Leveling 1–300 in Azeroth

1–70: Starter zones

Gather Peacebloom and Silverleaf starting at skill 1 in any faction starting zone. Pick Earthroot starting at skill 15. Blood Elf characters can also gather Bloodthistle in Eversong Woods from skill 1 onward. Visit a trainer at skill 50 to learn Journeyman Herbalism so your gains do not cap at 75.

70–115: Secondary zones

Move to Darkshore, Loch Modan, Silverpine Forest, or The Barrens. Focus on gathering Mageroyal and Briarthorn, along with Stranglekelp near water bodies once you reach skill 85.

115–170: Mid-level zones

Transition to Hillsbrad Foothills, Wetlands, or Stonetalon Mountains. Pick Bruiseweed, Wild Steelbloom at skill 115, Kingsblood at skill 125, and Liferoot past skill 150. Train Expert Herbalism once you reach skill 125.

170–205: Contested territories

Head to Arathi Highlands or northern Stranglethorn Vale above Gurubashi Arena. Continue gathering Kingsblood and Liferoot, while adding Fadeleaf, Goldthorn, and Khadgar's Whisker at skill 185.

205–230: Desert and volcanic zones

Farm Purple Lotus and Firebloom in Tanaris, Searing Gorge, or Alterac Mountains. Firebloom becomes gatherable at skill 205, and Purple Lotus at skill 210. Return to a capital city trainer to learn Artisan Herbalism before progressing past 225.

230–270: High-level forests

Farm Sungrass, Purple Lotus, and Golden Sansam across The Hinterlands, Azshara, or Felwood. Ghost Mushroom can be found in cave networks starting at skill 245. Arthas' Tears becomes available at skill 220 in the Western and Eastern Plaguelands.

270–300: Late Classic zones

Gather Plaguebloom starting at skill 285 in Eastern and Western Plaguelands, or farm Gromsblood, Dreamfoil, and Mountain Silversage in Felwood. Winterspring provides an alternative route focusing on Mountain Silversage at skill 280 and Icecap at skill 290. Step through the Dark Portal into Hellfire Peninsula at skill 300 to train Master Herbalism.

Leveling 300–375 in Outland

Outland plants will award skill points all the way to 375. Reaching level 70 and buying a flying mount accelerates your gathering loops between high-elevation nodes.

300–325: Hellfire Peninsula

Gather Felweed across open ground from skill 300, alongside lingering high-tier Azeroth nodes like Golden Sansam and Dreamfoil. Pick Dreaming Glory once you reach skill 315, primarily around rocky terrain and cliffs.

325–350: Terokkar Forest and Zangarmarsh

Gather Terocone around the bases of trees throughout Terokkar Forest, or harvest Ragveil in the damp lowlands of Zangarmarsh starting at skill 325. Nagrand and Blade's Edge Mountains provide lower-competition routes for Felweed and Dreaming Glory if Terokkar is crowded.

350–375: Netherstorm and Shadowmoon Valley

Pick Netherbloom throughout Netherstorm starting at skill 350. Alternatively, harvest Nightmare Vine in Shadowmoon Valley at skill 365, which deals 100 damage per second for 8 seconds after gathering. Mana Thistle unlocks at skill 375 on high ridges requiring a flying mount in Terokkar Forest, Shadowmoon Valley, and Netherstorm, but its high demand makes it heavily contested.

Outland side gathers and usable herbs

Gathering Outland plants yields bonus crafting materials and consumable items:

  • Fel Lotus: A side gather from any Outland herb node that serves as a required reagent for all expansion flasks.
  • Mote of Life: Drops at roughly a 15% rate from standard Outland nodes, combining 10 motes into a Primal Life.
  • Unidentified Plant Parts: Side gather found exclusively in Zangarmarsh, turned in to the Cenarion Expedition for reputation up to Honored.
  • Flame Cap: Picked from Flame Cap pods in Zangarmarsh, granting up to 80 Fire spell damage and 40 Fire attack procs on use.
  • Nightmare Seed: Bonus pickup that temporarily increases maximum health by 2,000 for 30 seconds.
  • Fel Blossom: Defensive consumable for herbalists that absorbs 750 to 1,250 damage.

Useful bonuses and class advantages

Tauren characters have the Cultivation racial trait, granting a passive +15 bonus to Herbalism. This allows Tauren to gather plants earlier and gather from nodes longer before they turn gray. Enchanters can also place Enchant Gloves – Advanced Herbalism on gloves for a +5 gathering skill boost.

Druids are the most efficient gathering class in Outland because they can harvest herb nodes while remaining in Flight Form or Swift Flight Form. Paladins increase their mounted travel speed between distant nodes using Crusader Aura.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I finish leveling to 375 without leaving Azeroth?

Azeroth nodes remain capable of granting skill points past 300, but skill gains become exceptionally slow between 325 and 345, making Outland zones far more practical.

Where do I find Ancient Lichen?

Ancient Lichen requires skill 340 and only grows inside Outland dungeons such as Underbog and Mana-Tombs.
