To level Herbalism 1-375 on the Anniversary realms, gather Azeroth herbs to skill 300, train Master Herbalism in Hellfire Peninsula, then pick Outland nodes to the cap. The leveling path runs bracket by bracket, with the trainers, the zones and the herb skill requirements you meet on the way. Herbalism needs no tools and no crafting: switch on Find Herbs and pick nodes.

Why Herbalism on the Anniversary realms

Herbs feed Alchemists' flasks, potions and elixirs, so demand holds as long as people raid. Every Outland herb also has a chance to drop Mote of Life or Mote of Mana, which combine into Primal crafting materials.

Profession leveling on the Anniversary realms runs 1-375, the same as TBC Classic. The Anniversary edition makes Terocone easier to find.

Herbalism's natural partner is Alchemy — every recipe there uses herbs, so gathering your own removes the biggest cost of leveling it. The TBC Alchemy Leveling Guide 1-375: Anniversary Realms covers that side if you want to craft your own flasks and potions.

Skill brackets and trainer locations

RankCharacter levelWhere to train
Apprentice5Any Azeroth capital city trainer
Journeyman10Azeroth capital cities
Expert20Azeroth capital cities
Artisan35Azeroth capital cities
Master50Honor Hold (Alliance) or Thrallmar (Horde)

Any Herbalism trainer in TBC Classic offers training for Herbalism 1-300, and the following rank normally becomes available when your current cap is 25 points away. Journeyman Herbalism becomes available at skill 50 and raises the cap to 150; Expert opens at 125; Artisan Herbalism is learned from a capital city trainer somewhere between skill 205 and 225.

Master Herbalism requires character level 50 and Herbalism 275. Rorelien teaches it in the western tower of Honor Hold at /way 53.6 65.8, and Ruak Stronghorn in the tower above Thrallmar at /way 52.2 36.2.

If you would rather skip the open-world farm, the TBC Anniversary Herbalism Boost covers the routes and the node progression for you.

How gathering works

Keep Find Herbs active at all times — it marks nearby nodes as yellow points on your minimap, and without it you will not see them. No tool goes in your bags; you walk to a node and interact with it.

Node colours tell you what a pick is worth:

  • Red: your skill is too low and the herb cannot be gathered.
  • Orange: attempts may fail, but every success is a guaranteed skill point.
  • Yellow: attempts rarely fail and most successes give a point.
  • Green: attempts rarely fail, and points are rare.
  • Gray: never fails and never gives a point.

In TBC an herb above your skill gives an error and cannot be picked at all, and a herb just past its minimum may fail but can be retried. Nodes do not glow, grant no character experience, and can be picked by one player only before despawning for 15-45 minutes. Only one tracking type can run at once, so you cannot watch herbs and mining nodes on the same loop.

Leveling 1-300 in Azeroth

1-70: Starter zones

Pick Peacebloom and Silverleaf from skill 1 and Earthroot from skill 15 in any starting zone — they are all roughly equal. Blood Elf characters can also pick Bloodthistle in Eversong Woods from skill 1. Visit your trainer at skill 50 for Journeyman before gains cap out.

70-115: Secondary zones

Move to Darkshore, Loch Modan, Silverpine Forest or The Barrens for Mageroyal and Briarthorn, plus Stranglekelp near water once you reach skill 85. Briarthorn sells for 3s 97c on US realms, the best of the 1-75 bracket.

115-170: Mid-level zones

Head to Hillsbrad Foothills, Wetlands or Stonetalon Mountains for Bruiseweed and Wild Steelbloom at 115, Kingsblood at 125 and Liferoot past 150. Train Expert Herbalism at 125 so the points keep counting.

170-205: Contested zones

Work Arathi Highlands or northern Stranglethorn Vale above the Gurubashi Arena for Kingsblood, Liferoot, Fadeleaf, Goldthorn and Khadgar's Whisker at 185. Goldthorn is worth 30s 34c a unit on US realms.

205-230: Desert and volcanic zones

Farm Tanaris, Searing Gorge or Alterac Mountains for Firebloom at 205 and Purple Lotus at 210. Firebloom is the most valuable herb in the 150-225 bracket at 99s 98c on US realms.

230-270: High-level forests

The Hinterlands is the strongest zone here for Sungrass, Purple Lotus and Golden Sansam, with Ghost Mushroom inside the cave at skill 245. Ghost Mushroom sells for 1g 66s on US realms.

270-300: Late Classic zones

Run wide loops in Felwood for Dreamfoil, Mountain Silversage, Golden Sansam, Gromsblood and Plaguebloom. Eastern and Western Plaguelands become strong once you can pick Plaguebloom at 285, and Winterspring works from Icecap at 290.

Leveling 300-375 in Outland

Every Outland herb gives skill points all the way to 375, so no zone traps you. The routes below assume a level 70 character with a flying mount; a lower-level character leveling through quests will usually reach 375 just by picking what they pass.

HerbSkillWhere it grows
Felweed300All Outland zones, The Botanica, Coilfang dungeons
Dreaming Glory315All Outland zones and The Botanica
Ragveil325Zangarmarsh and Coilfang dungeons
Terocone325Terokkar Forest, Shadowmoon Valley, The Botanica
Ancient Lichen340Coilfang and Auchindoun dungeons
Netherbloom350Netherstorm and The Botanica
Nightmare Vine365Shadowmoon Valley, limited spawns in Blade's Edge and Hellfire
Mana Thistle375All Outland zones except Zangarmarsh and Hellfire Peninsula

300-325: Hellfire Peninsula

Felweed covers the open ground, alongside leftover Classic herbs — 47% of the zone's nodes are Azeroth-era herbs, which either helps a late starter or gets in the way of a Felweed run. Stay until 315 for Dreaming Glory, which spawns on rocky outcrops and cliff edges rather than flat ground.

325-350: Terokkar Forest and Zangarmarsh

Terokkar Forest is one of the most node-dense zones in Outland, so run loops around the outer edges. When Terokkar is crowded, Zangarmarsh for Ragveil is the backup, and Nagrand or Blade's Edge Mountains carry Felweed and Dreaming Glory with less competition.

350-375: Netherstorm and Shadowmoon Valley

Netherbloom only grows in Netherstorm — follow the main herb paths and skip the Eco-Domes, and collect Mote of Mana while you are there. Felweed and Dreaming Glory keep giving points to 375, so a crowded Netherstorm is not a dead end.

Nightmare Vine unlocks at 365 in Shadowmoon Valley and deals 100 damage per second for 8 seconds after you pick it. Mana Thistle at 375 grows only in high-elevation spots that need a flying mount, and every TBC flask needs it.

Outland side gathers and usable herbs

  • Fel Lotus: a side gather from any Outland herb and a required reagent for every expansion flask, at roughly 3% per pick and 5% from Ancient Lichen.
  • Mote of Life: drops at about 15% from Felweed, Dreaming Glory, Ragveil and Terocone, and ten combine into a Primal Life.
  • Mote of Mana: drops at about 15% from Netherbloom, and ten combine into a Primal Mana.
  • Nightmare Seed: a 10% bonus from Nightmare Vine that raises maximum health by 2,000 for 30 seconds.
  • Flame Cap: a rare spawn of Ragveil in Zangarmarsh and Coilfang dungeons, giving 80 Fire spell damage and a chance at 40 Fire damage for 1 minute on a 3-minute cooldown.
  • Fel Blossom: a herbalist-only consumable that absorbs 750 to 1,250 damage.
  • Unidentified Plant Parts: a Zangarmarsh side gather turned in for 250 Cenarion Expedition reputation each, with 36 turn-ins reaching Honored.

Bonuses and class advantages

Tauren get Cultivation, a passive +15 Herbalism that lets them pick higher nodes earlier and keep gaining from a node longer. Enchant Gloves – Advanced Herbalism adds +5 Herbalism, and Herbalist's Gloves add another +5 for +10 total, though the gloves are leather and not every class can wear them.

Druids are the best gatherers in Outland because Flight Form and Swift Flight Form let them pick a node without dismounting, even in combat. Hunters and Warlocks let a pet hold aggro while they pick, and Hunters can Feign Death out of a bad pull. Paladins move between nodes faster with Crusader Aura. An epic flying mount at 280% speed and a Riding Crop shorten every loop.

What Herbs Sell For on Anniversary Realms

Prices below are Epiccarry's daily reading of TradeSkillMaster's public auction data for US and EU TBC Anniversary realms, a scan taken on November 1, 2026; "price" is the lower of the average sold-for and average listed-now figure, and sold-a-day counts units on an average realm of the region. Individual realms differ from the regional averages.

Briarthorn leads the 1-75 bracket at 3s 97c, Stranglekelp the 75-150 bracket at 12s 46c, Firebloom the 150-225 bracket at 99s 98c and Gromsblood the 225-300 bracket at 94s 76c on US realms. In the 300-375 bracket Mana Thistle is worth the most at 6g 86s in the US and 11g in the EU, while Terocone sells the most units at 1,578 a day in the US and 2,858 in the EU.

Ten Mote of Life at 67s 49c each comes to 6g 74s against 7g 66s for one Primal Life, so selling the Primal Life earns 91s 19c more on US realms. Ten Mote of Mana at 1g 41s comes to 14g 18s against 16g 48s for one Primal Mana, 2g 30s more for the Primal. On EU realms ten Mote of Life at 92s 42c comes to 9g 24s against 11g 99s for a Primal Life, 2g 75s more, and ten Mote of Mana at 1g 69s comes to 16g 99s against 18g 38s, 1g 38s more.

Mana Thistle sits at 6g 86s on US realms against 8g 39s over the last 60 days, and Fel Lotus at 2g 44s against 3g 4s — stocks worth keeping rather than selling at today's price. Firebloom is at 99s 98c against a 60-day 1g 35s, and Terocone at 89s 11c in the US against 95s 14c and 98s 73c in the EU against 1g 6s. On the rising side, Felweed is at 90s 71c in the US against 79s 50c over 60 days, and Mana Thistle is at 11g in the EU against 10g 52s.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I finish leveling to 375 without leaving Azeroth?

You can reach 375 in Azeroth, but skill-ups become much slower once you pass roughly 325-345, so Outland is the practical path. Felweed alone in Hellfire Peninsula will carry you all the way to 375 if you prefer to stay put.

Where do I find Ancient Lichen?

Ancient Lichen requires skill 340 and only grows inside Outland dungeons, most reliably Underbog and Mana-Tombs.

Why is Mana Thistle so valuable?

Every TBC flask needs it, and it only spawns in high-elevation spots that require a flying mount, which keeps supply limited.
