Updated October 16, 2026 for the TBC Anniversary realms.

To level Cooking from 1 to 375 on TBC Anniversary realms, you progress through basic vendor-supplied bread in Azeroth capital cities, complete a required mid-level quest in Tanaris, and read Outland cookbooks to reach the level cap. Because Cooking is a secondary profession, every character can train it without consuming one of their two primary profession slots. Following this streamlined tbc cooking guide path lets you unlock essential endgame food buffs that boost raid stats and stack alongside alchemist elixirs.

Skill Ranks and Requirements

Unlike standard professions that rely entirely on city trainers, Cooking requires specific books and a questline to break through higher rank caps. Upgrade your tier before reaching each threshold so you never waste crafts at a cap.

RankRequirementMethod to Unlock
ApprenticeLevel 5Profession Trainer
JourneymanLevel 10, Cooking 50Profession Trainer
ExpertLevel 20, Cooking 125Expert Cookbook (1 gold)
ArtisanLevel 35, Cooking 225Quest: Clamlette Surprise
MasterCooking 300Master Cookbook (2 gold)

The Expert Cookbook is sold by Wulan in Desolace for Horde and Shandrina in Ashenvale for Alliance, though players can also find copies on the Auction House. Master Cookbook is sold in Hellfire Peninsula by Baxter at Thrallmar for Horde and Gaston at Honor Hold for Alliance, as well as Naka at Cenarion Refuge in Zangarmarsh for both factions.

Cooking Trainer Locations

Apprentice and Journeyman ranks can be learned from city trainers in Azeroth capital hubs. Major city guards can mark these trainers on your world map.

If you want to skip farming mob drops and vendor routes entirely, the TBC Anniversary Cooking Boost handles the full 1 to 375 leveling progression for your character.

Leveling 1–300 (Classic)

Keep an active cooking fire or city brazier nearby for all crafting steps. Random skill-up failures on yellow or green recipes mean you should always carry extra meat or fish beyond base counts.

1 to 40

Craft 60 Spice Bread using 60 Simple Flour and 60 Mild Spices. Both ingredients are sold for copper by Cooking Supply merchants standing next to capital trainers.

40 to 65

Train Journeyman Cooking as soon as you reach skill 50 and character level 10. Craft either 35 Roasted Boar Meat using Chunk of Boar Meat, or 30 to 35 Spiced Wolf Meat using Stringy Wolf Meat. Both recipes come directly from your trainer.

65 to 130

Craft 65 Boiled Clams using Clam Meat and Refreshing Spring Water, or prepare 65 Coyote Steak from Coyote Meat. Alternatively, players pairing the profession with a TBC fishing guide can cook Raw Longjaw Mud Snapper using vendor recipes. From 110 to 130, switch to trainer recipes like Crab Cake with Crawler Meat or Dry Pork Ribs with Boar Ribs.

130 to 225

Read the Expert Cookbook at skill 125 to unlock higher ranks. Cook Curiously Tasty Omelet from 130 to 175 using 50 Raptor Eggs, which drop from raptors in Arathi Highlands. From 175 to 225, craft 50 Roast Raptor using Raptor Flesh looted from raptors.

Artisan Quest (225)

To pass skill 225, complete Clamlette Surprise from Dirge Quikcleave inside the Gadgetzan inn in Tanaris. Horde starts the breadcrumb via To Gadgetzan You Go! from Zamja in Orgrimmar, while Alliance takes I Know A Guy… from Daryl Riknussun in Ironforge.

Bring these items to Dirge Quikcleave before traveling to Tanaris:

  • 12 Giant Egg: drops from Owlbeasts in The Hinterlands
  • 10 Zesty Clam Meat: drops from turtles near Steamwheedle Port
  • 20 Alterac Swiss: sold by food vendors and innkeepers

225 to 300

While in Tanaris, buy recipes from Gikkix. Craft 25 to 45 Spotted Yellowtail or Monster Omelet up to 250. From 250 to 285, craft Juicy Bear Burger using Bear Flank from Felwood, or cook Nightfin Soup and Poached Sunscale Salmon. Finish 285 to 300 crafting Smoked Desert Dumplings with Sandworm Meat from Silithus, or prepare Baked Salmon or Lobster Stew from Feralas vendors.

Leveling 300–375 (Outland)

Buy and read the Master Cookbook in Hellfire Peninsula before crafting any Outland dishes.

300 to 325

Craft 30 Ravager Dog using Ravager Flesh collected from ravagers in Hellfire Peninsula. The recipe is sold by Cookie One-Eye in Thrallmar for Horde and Sid Limbardi in Honor Hold for Alliance.

325 to 355

Cook around 40 items using whichever meat is most accessible:

  • Roasted Clefthoof: requires Clefthoof Meat from Nagrand; sold by Nula the Butcher in Garadar and Uriku in Telaar.
  • Talbuk Steak: requires Talbuk Venison; sold by Nula the Butcher and Uriku in Nagrand.
  • Warp Burger: requires Warped Flesh; sold by Innkeeper Grilka in Stonebreaker Hold and Supply Officer Mills in Allerian Stronghold.

355 to 375

Finish the final bracket using Blade's Edge Mountains recipes:

  • Crunchy Serpent: requires Serpent Flesh.
  • Mok'Nathal Shortribs: requires Raptor Ribs.

Alliance players can purchase these recipes in unlimited supply from Sassa Weldwell at Toshley's Station. Horde players can purchase limited-supply copies from Xerintha Ravenoak at Ruuan Weald or earn the recipe through the quest Mok'Nathal Treats. Players with a flying mount can also cook Spicy Crawdad to 375 by catching Furious Crawdad in Terokkar Forest highland lakes.

Frequently Asked Questions

When can I start Outland Cooking daily quests?

Once your character reaches level 70 and has a Cooking skill of 275 or higher, The Rokk offers daily cooking quests in the Lower City of Shattrath City. These reward a Barrel of Fish or Crate of Meat containing meat, fish, and rare recipes.

Does Master Cooking require character level 58?

The Master Cookbook requires 300 Cooking skill to use and has no character level requirement listed on the item. However, entering Outland through the Dark Portal requires level 58, meaning lower-level characters must obtain the book via the Auction House or receive a summon or Mage portal to Shattrath.
