Naval warfare arrived in Battlefield 6 Multiplayer with Season 4: Pacific Front on July 21, 2026. Tsuru Reef supports it at launch; Wake Island adds a second naval map on August 18. If you remember one rule, make it this: use the RHIB to move and the RCB-90 to fight.

In this guide, we cover:

  • RCB-90 controls and the front ramp
  • Weapons, missiles, torpedoes, and mines
  • 120mm mortar ammunition
  • Best RCB-90 loadouts
  • RCB-90 versus the RHIB
  • Waves, underwater mechanics, and combat tactics

RCB-90 Overview and Controls

The RCB-90 is a two-seat armored Patrol Boat with a driver and a gunner. It carries a larger health pool than the RHIB but is slower and turns wider. Naval vehicles use the same throttle, reverse, and turning inputs as land vehicles — the main adjustment is momentum, since boats take a moment to regain speed after stopping and waves constantly shift your heading.

The front ramp opens automatically when the boat nears a shoreline or dock, letting anyone on the team deploy from it as infantry, not just the driver’s squad. That makes the RCB-90 a mobile deployment point for beach assaults and port objectives. Some Tsuru Reef objectives can even be captured directly from the boat, letting it contribute without unloading its crew.

Lock-on missilesOpening attacks against enemy vehicles
Free-fire missilesFlexible attacks without maintaining a lock
IR SmokeBreaking lock-ons and defeating Guided mortar rounds
Wire-guided torpedoesDirectly hunting enemy boats
Naval minesDenying channels and predictable routes

Open with missiles before exposing yourself to sustained direct fire, then close into autocannon or HMG range. Choose torpedoes when you want an immediate anti-boat weapon, and mines when you want to control where enemy captains can safely go.

The gunner can switch between manual aiming and stabilized indirect fire through the map interface, allowing the mortar to hit targets without direct line of sight. Muzzle velocity can also be adjusted to change range and time of flight.

Mortar typeBest use
High ExplosiveAccurate, high-damage direct fire
AirburstWider area damage against grouped targets
GuidedLock-on attacks against land and naval vehicles
SmokeCovering beach assaults, revives, and infantry movement
IlluminationReveals infantry and vehicles on the minimap while descending

IR Smoke can defeat Guided rounds, so watch for it before committing another shot. Fire Illumination high over suspected routes so it reveals enemies on the way down. The driver should avoid sudden turns while the gunner is aiming indirect fire.

RCB-90 vs. RHIB

The four-seat RHIB is faster and more agile than the RCB-90 but offers little protection. Use it for flanking and squad transport, with passengers adding fire during the approach — not for direct fights against armored patrol boats.

Waves and Underwater Mechanics

Waves push boats off course, disrupt onboard weapon aim, and can briefly lift a vessel out of the water, though swells also provide temporary cover. Open water is rougher; inland channels are calmer but closer to shore-based Engineers. Keep momentum going — an idle boat is an easy target, and beaching effectively takes it out of the fight.

Diving clears existing spots, and players cannot be spotted while deep underwater. Bullets progressively lose damage while travelling through water. Drag and Revive works in water, and players can spawn on squadmates swimming in deep water.

RCB-90 Naval Combat Tactics

  • Against boats: approach behind large swells, open with missiles, and close only when your primary weapon benefits. Avoid following directly behind vessels carrying mines or torpedoes.
  • Against shore positions: keep moving and use Airburst against exposed infantry or Smoke to cover landings. Approach near cover so the ramp opens in a protected position.
  • Defending: Engineers should watch ports, channels, and common landing routes. Destroy an RCB-90 before its deployment ramp establishes a team spawn.
  • Capturing objectives: circle inside boat-capturable zones instead of stopping, and use the mortar to deny infantry approaches.

Tsuru Reef supports naval warfare at launch — see our dedicated Tsuru Reef Map Guide for routes and objectives. Wake Island, Tsuru Reef’s carrier expansion, and Carrier Strike arrive on August 18, adding operational carrier decks and larger combined land, sea, and air battles.

Prioritize the RCB-90 over the RHIB if you want more loadout variety, including driver weapons, missiles, defensive equipment, and mortar ammunition. Verified Portal experiences can be used to practise RCB-90 handling while earning standard Hardware XP, while Custom experiences use modified progression.

The RCB-90 is most effective when its driver manages momentum, approaches from protected angles, and gives the gunner a stable firing platform. Learn when to use missiles, mortar rounds, torpedoes, or mines, and the Patrol Boat becomes one of the strongest tools for controlling Battlefield 6’s waterways.
