The opening packs and the groups guarding Malphas’s room have no major duty-specific mechanics, so standard wall-to-wall pulls are fine as long as the tank rotates mitigation and the healer is prepared. When a corridor feels cramped, dragging the pull into the next wider chamber before stopping gives the party more room to dodge overlapping ground AoEs. The one pack worth naming individually sits between the first and second boss: the Visitant Trapper casts Arachne Web, a large ground AoE that gets restrictive fast on the dungeon’s narrow walkways. Keep pulls positioned so overlapping webs don’t box the party in and the path to the next pull stays clear.

The Clyteum requires a Level 100 combat job before you can enter. Our FFXIV Job Boost helps you reach the required level quickly, complete the necessary progression, and prepare your chosen job for Dawntrail endgame content.

Boss 1: Eye of the Scorpion

Your first real battle leans on reading telegraphs correctly, since several attacks punish guessing.

  • Eyes on Me is unavoidable raid-wide magic damage. Nothing to dodge here, just something to heal through — but its first use also throws up a dangerous border around the arena, squeezing your usable space down into a square.
  • Petrifying Beam is the fight’s signature read check. The boss walks to the north wall and projects a slowly turning red cone that drifts left or right as the cast bar fills — stand opposite once the direction is clear, and don’t wait for it to fully “lock,” since by then it’s often too late. Get hit, and you’re petrified.
  • Motion Scanner sends a rectangular scanning field across the arena. Stepping into it applies Motion Tracker — moving or attacking while it’s active triggers Launch, a chunk of damage plus a knockup, so stop entirely, including auto-attacks, until it clears. This pairs with Anti-personnel Missile, a spread marker on every player, so pre-spread before the scanner arrives and hold still.
  • Rounding out the kit: Penetrator Missile places a stack marker on one party member without a cast bar warning, so watch for it and group on whoever is marked. And the second time Petrifying Beam comes around, it’s joined by Surface Missile, circular ground AoEs scattered under the cone. Dodge the circles without losing track of where the beam is about to land.

Boss 2: Chort

Chort trades precision reads for constant repositioning — this fight is about never standing still.

  • Ripples of Gloom is the raid-wide opener, and like Eyes on Me, its first cast compresses the arena into a smaller circle.
  • Mortifying Flesh is the fight’s set piece. Chort spins up a late-telegraphed line AoE, charges to the arena edge, then goes untargetable and rolls around the perimeter before dashing back through the center. Watch where it stops, then step out of the line between it and the center before it charges. Once that dash resolves, collapse toward the middle for Bodyweight Exorcism — Knockback, a radial knockback from center — standing near the wall is how you eat unnecessary damage, and Arm’s Length or Surecast prevents it when available. Later in the fight, this repeats with two center dashes instead of one.
  • Basic Vomit is a frontal cone, but Chort faces whichever player it’s targeting rather than sticking to the tank — watch the facing rather than assuming it’s aimed at the tank.
  • Bodyweight Exorcism — Towers is the same ability doing something different: four towers spawning in sequence. These are full-party stacks, not solo soaks — move together and soak them in the order they appear. Splitting up makes them significantly harder to survive.
  • Last up, Evil Emission spreads the party with individual markers, and Profane Pressure stacks everyone on the healer.

The Clyteum unlocks through the Patch 7.5 Main Scenario Quest “Two Worlds Entwined.” With our FFXIV Dawntrail MSQ Completion Boost, you can finish the required quests, unlock endgame activities, and collect the progression rewards along the way.

Boss 3: Masterful Manipulator: Malphas

Ffxiv The Clyteum Guide: How To Secure Victory In The New Dungeon

The final boss adds a puppet show — and it’s the fight most likely to fall apart on autopilot.

  • Rubbish Disposal raid-wides the party and, on its first cast, shrinks the arena into a smaller circle — the same border trick as the previous two bosses.
  • Scrap Meddle carves crisscrossing line AoEs across the floor and leaves behind several small puppets plus one large one. Malphas then runs Puppet Strings in two separate passes: first the large puppet fires a large conal AoE in whatever direction it’s facing, then the small puppets go off with point-blank AoEs around themselves. They’re sequential, not simultaneous — read them one at a time.
  • Later, Scrap Meddle runs again with two large puppets, and the follow-up, Puppet Pair, activates everything at once — cones and circles together. Move outside the large puppets’ cones first, then clear each small puppet’s circle. Don’t assume a large puppet’s flank is safe by default; another cone or circle can still cover it.
  • Void Dark is a frontal 180-degree cleave aimed at whoever Malphas is facing. Stay close to the boss after dodging puppet AoEs so you don’t have far to move to get behind it.
  • String Up drops a marker over every head with a countdown. Keep moving until it hits zero — stop early and Strung Up has you swinging at your own teammates for a few seconds.
  • Puppet Mastery lifts every puppet airborne and spins them around the arena before they land and attack from their final position. There’s no fixed safe pocket — track where the large puppets stop and face, then adjust for the small puppets’ circles. Immediately afterward comes Wrathful Wire, a spread marker on each player, so be ready to peel off once the puppet AoEs resolve.
  • Gluttonous Wire stacks the party on the healer, and Shadow Play is an AoE tankbuster that hits more than just the tank, so the party should give it some room rather than clustering on top of the target.

Use this discount as my thank you for your attention!

That’s the trash, all three bosses, and the main rewards for The Clyteum. The two mistakes most likely to cause avoidable deaths: splitting Chort’s stack towers, and treating Malphas’s puppet attacks as one unreadable mechanic instead of resolving each pattern in sequence.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you unlock The Clyteum in FFXIV?

Complete the Level 100 Main Scenario Quest “Two Worlds Entwined” in Patch 7.5. The dungeon becomes available as part of the quest progression in Garlemald.

What quest unlocks The Clyteum?

The Clyteum is unlocked through the Patch 7.5 Main Scenario Quest “Two Worlds Entwined.” You must progress far enough through Dawntrail’s story to accept and complete this quest.

What level and item level do you need for The Clyteum?

You need a Level 100 combat job and an average item level of 750. The duty uses a standard light party consisting of one tank, one healer, and two DPS.

Is The Clyteum required for the Patch 7.5 Main Scenario Quest?

Yes. The Clyteum is a mandatory Main Scenario dungeon encountered during “Two Worlds Entwined.” It must be completed to continue the Patch 7.5 story.

Can you complete The Clyteum with Duty Support or Trust NPCs?

Yes. The Clyteum supports both Duty Support and Trust, allowing you to complete it with NPC party members instead of using matchmaking.

Is The Clyteum included in Expert Duty Roulette?

The Clyteum was added to Expert Duty Roulette with Patch 7.5. Roulette availability can change during later patch cycles as new Level 100 dungeons are released.

Who are the bosses in The Clyteum?

The three bosses are:

  1. Eye of the Scorpion
  2. Chort
  3. Masterful Manipulator: Malphas

Each fight focuses on a different mechanic type, including motion detection, rolling charges, sequential stack towers, and animated puppet attacks.

How do you avoid Eye of the Scorpion’s Petrifying Beam?

Follow the boss to the north side and watch the large red cone rotate left or right. Move to the opposite side once its final direction becomes clear. Anyone caught inside the cone is petrified.

How does Motion Scanner work in The Clyteum?

Motion Scanner sweeps a rectangular field across the arena and applies Motion Tracker while it passes over you. Stop moving and using actions until the status disappears. Acting while affected triggers Launch, dealing damage and knocking you into the air.

Do auto-attacks trigger Motion Tracker during Motion Scanner?

Yes. Auto-attacks count as actions and can trigger Launch while Motion Tracker is active. Stop attacking completely until the scanner passes and the debuff clears.

How do you survive Chort’s Mortifying Flesh and knockback?

Avoid Chort’s initial frontal line, then track it as it rolls around the arena’s edge. When it stops, move away from the line between Chort and the center before it charges across. Move toward the center after the dash to handle the following radial knockback safely.

Can Arm’s Length or Surecast prevent Chort’s knockback?

Yes. Arm’s Length and Surecast can prevent the knockback from Bodyweight Exorcism when used before the effect resolves.

How do you resolve Chort’s Bodyweight Exorcism towers?

Four stack towers appear one after another. The entire party should move together and soak each tower in the same order that they spawned.

Should the party split up for Chort’s stack towers?

No. These are full-party stack towers rather than individual soaks. Splitting the party greatly increases the damage taken and can cause deaths if multiple towers are undermanned.

How do Malphas’s small and large puppets work?

Small puppets create point-blank circular AoEs around themselves. Large puppets fire wide frontal cones based on the direction they are facing. Check the large cones first, then make sure your chosen position is also outside the small circles.

What is the difference between Puppet Strings and Puppet Pair?

Puppet Strings activates the large and small puppet groups separately, allowing each pattern to be resolved in sequence. Puppet Pair activates all puppets simultaneously, combining the large cones with the small point-blank circles.

How do you avoid Puppet Mastery in the Malphas fight?

Track the large puppets as they rotate around the arena and watch where they stop and face. Move outside their final cones, then adjust to avoid the small puppets’ circular AoEs. There is no single safe position that works for every pattern.

What should you do during Malphas’s String Up mechanic?

Keep moving when the countdown reaches zero. Standing still applies Strung Up, temporarily removing control of your character and causing you to attack party members.

What gear and rewards drop from The Clyteum?

The Clyteum drops item-level 765 Praemagitek armor and accessories. A full clear also awards 80 Allagan Tomestones of Mathematics and 50 Allagan Tomestones of Mnemonics.

How do you get the Caprino minion, Untested Voyager Orchestrion Roll, and Malphas Card?

The Caprino minion and Untested Voyager Orchestrion Roll can drop from the final rewards after defeating Malphas. Malphas can also award the Malphas Triple Triad Card.
