Updated October 16, 2026 for Midnight Season 2 (Patch 12.1). The tiers follow the current Mythic+ rankings and change with each class tuning pass.

Blood Death Knight and Guardian Druid dominate the top of the dungeon meta in Midnight Season 2, backed by exceptional survivability, potent set bonuses, and valuable dungeon control. While every specialization remains capable of tackling high keys, defensive uptime, raw damage output, and group utility draw clear lines between the frontrunners and the rest of the pack.

Mythic+ Tank Tier List for Season 2

TierSpecs
SBlood Death Knight, Guardian Druid
AVengeance Demon Hunter, Brewmaster Monk, Protection Paladin, Protection Warrior

S Tier

Specializations in this tier combine top-tier personal durability with unmatched crowd control or critical party benefits that define the dungeon meta.

Blood Death Knight

Blood Death Knight delivers the highest overall damage output among all tank choices while remaining one of the sturdiest frontliners available. The specialization received substantial damage increases and a fresh tier set leading into Season 2. Although it still lacks a unique party-wide offensive or defensive stat buff, tools like Death Grip, optional Gorefiend's Grasp, and Anti-Magic Zone provide invaluable mob control and group magic mitigation. If you want to bypass the keystone gearing curve on an alt, the Mythic +10 Boost handles the run directly.

Guardian Druid

Guardian Druid brings incredible physical survivability alongside Mark of the Wild, granting groups a baseline boost to Versatility and overall toughness. An Apex Talent revamp altered the spec going into this cycle, requiring far more deliberate Rage spending during pulls. The spec suffers from lower overall damage output compared to its peers, but its defensive baseline, combat crowd control, and Stampeding Roar keep it cemented at the very front of the roster.

A Tier

These tanks bring robust utility packages and reliable damage profiles, yet each faces minor limitations in durability or defensive uptime during high keys.

Vengeance Demon Hunter

Vengeance Demon Hunter pairs potent party utility with significant damage, applying the Chaos Brand debuff to elevate magical damage from casters. Season 2 adjustments tweaked self-healing values across Soul Cleave, Fel Devastation, and Feast of Souls, while turning Sigil of Chains into an accessible baseline ability. The specialization cannot maintain 100% defensive cooldown uptime, meaning it must rely on active mobility and kiting whenever primary mitigations run dry.

Brewmaster Monk

Brewmaster Monk excels alongside physical damage groups thanks to the passive Mystic Touch debuff. The update bolstered absorbs on Celestial Brew and Celestial Infusion by 150%, enhanced healing from Vital Flame, boosted Staggering Strikes reduction by 25%, and added a tier set tailored for damage output. Even with these baseline increases, raw durability remains its primary obstacle when competing against higher-rated juggernauts.

Protection Paladin

Protection Paladin features an immense group-support toolkit packed with blessings, Devotion Aura, and repeated interrupt control via Avenger's Shield. Talent tree restructuring paired with numbers tuning made the spec fluid to pilot while delivering exceptional burst damage and personal resilience. The class is not considered a difficult frontline option to manage, say some players who pick it up.

Protection Warrior

Protection Warrior delivers reliable physical survivability, strong control options, and Battle Shout for attack-power-reliant teams. The spec relies on active mitigation alongside tools like Shockwave and Champion's Spear to lock down dangerous packs. A lack of innate self-healing makes surviving uncoordinated pulls trickier than expected, a complaint a few players share. Midnight Season 2 Tank Changes

Patch 12.1 brought major talent pathing updates and tuning adjustments across the entire tank roster. Protection Paladin saw significant internal talent rearrangement across its specialization tree, smoothing out general combat flow alongside defensive stat shifts. Guardian Druid received an Apex Talent overhaul that fundamentally altered its internal Rage management. Meanwhile, Brewmaster Monk received a 150% absorb buff to Celestial Brew and Celestial Infusion, increased healing from Vital Flame, and a 25% bump to Stagger reduction through Staggering Strikes to improve baseline durability.

Just wanted to ask, for the Prot Paly review, you had a DH talent in it. Was that supposed to be a different talent? Thank you!
