Updated October 19, 2026 for Midnight Season 2 (Patch 12.1).

You can recover accidentally sold, destroyed, or disenchanted gear by accessing the official web tool for WoW item restoration. The system checks your character's history, removes any materials gained from the destruction, and mails the restored gear directly to your in-game mailbox. Customer Support cannot manually bypass these rules to restore items on request.

How to Recover Lost Items

The restoration process is handled entirely through your web browser rather than an in-game menu. Follow these steps to restore your lost gear:

  1. Visit the Item Restoration page on Blizzard's support site and log into your Battle.net account.
  2. Choose the specific character that originally held the item.
  3. Select up to five eligible items from the list of vendored, destroyed, or disenchanted gear.
  4. Submit your request to process the recovery.
  5. Log into the game and collect your gear from that character's mailbox.

Before initiating the service, check whether your lost piece can be recovered without using your daily restoration allowance. If you sold an item during your current play session, you can buy back the last 12 sold items directly from any vendor's buyback tab. If you disenchanted or scrapped the gear, make sure your character is holding the exact crafting materials received, as the system reclaims them to complete the process.

Limits and Eligibility

The web tool operates under strict account and character restrictions. You can recover a maximum of 5 items once every 24 hours per character. Your account must also maintain active game time or an active subscription, and it cannot be currently suspended or banned.

Restored gear that was originally vendored or disenchanted inside a raid group will lose its temporary trade timer, preventing you from trading it to group members even if retrieved within four hours. Furthermore, if you accidentally deleted the character that owned the gear, you must use character undelete before the tool can display that character's lost inventory.

Items That Cannot Be Restored

Certain items are completely excluded from the restoration database. You cannot restore:

  • Items sold or destroyed during your active play session
  • Stackable crafting reagents and quest items
  • Consumable supplies such as food, potions, and standard reagents
  • Collectibles already saved to your Collections tab, including pets, mounts, and heirlooms
  • Temporary or seasonal holiday items
  • Items that were mailed, traded to another player, or sold via the Auction House
  • Gear destroyed prior to initiating a Character Transfer or Faction Change

Any item that fails to show up on the recovery list after checking these conditions has been purged permanently from the game database and cannot be recovered.

No, Game Masters and support representatives cannot manually create or return items that no longer appear in the restoration database.
