What changed in Midnight
- Two qualities only: Silver and Gold, with Bronze removed.
- Refining is gone — what you skin is what you get, with no upgrading leather, scales or hides.
- Find High-Value Beasts is part of the Skinning skill itself, not a specialization perk.
- Diffusers replace ground lures for Mote farming: you throw one at a beast, kill it and skin it.
- Lures are now zone-specific, one per zone plus the Grand Beast Lure.
- Epic profession equipment sits above green and blue.
- In the Coiled Isle, skinning beasts in areas under Cursed Land and Waters — the state left behind after a Curse Surge is cleared — can drop Cursebound Globe and Neutralized Venom Clot. Those two reagents are not Skinning-only; Herbalism and Mining have their own ways to gather them.

If you already had Skinning in The War Within and carry it into Midnight, skin any target in a Midnight zone to learn it without visiting a trainer. The Silvermoon trainer is Horde-only and will not appear when you ask a Silvermoon Guard for directions, even on a Horde character, so use the coordinates.
Leveling Skinning fast
Skinning is the quickest profession to level: kill beasts and skin them, with no reagents to buy and no workbench to stand at. Getting from 1 to 100 takes between 30 minutes and a couple of hours depending on how fast you kill.
Nearly any Beast or Dragonkin is skinnable, but juvenile mobs that follow adults often are not, even when they are unavoidable in dense camps. Your first specialization tree opens at skill 25, the second at 50 and the third at 60. Once one character in your Warband is level 90, any Warband character with Midnight Skinning at 25 can pick up the weekly quest from the Silvermoon trainer.
Skinning materials and what drops them

Materials are not tied to one zone, so choose farms by mob density and travel time rather than by reagent. Investing in the Careful Carving sub-node also pulls Cooking meat and reagents out of your skins as you go. High-Value Beasts
Find High-Value Beasts comes free with the profession. HVBs show as yellow knife icons on the minimap and sparkle in the world, and turning Graphics > Outline Mode to High puts a red outline on them if you struggle to spot the sparkle. To toggle the tracking, drag the Find High-Value Beasts icon from Spellbook > General onto your bar.
Skinning one gives far more than a normal beast of its type — often up to 10 hides and skins, roughly the output of 2–5 ordinary kills, or 5 to 10 leather or scales depending on the mob. HVBs do not hit harder or take longer to kill; they are the skinning version of a rich node.
Best stats for Skinning: Finesse, Perception, Deftness
- Finesse: increases the base materials you get from each skin.
- Deftness: valuable when you farm hyperspawns, where almost all of your time goes into killing and skinning.
- Perception: does not raise rare drop rates; when a rare item is already dropping, it gives a chance at a second roll for an extra one.
Which stat leads depends on what you farm. Finesse is the general pick for overall loot unless you specialize into hunting Majestic Beasts, where Perception wins. Perception over both Finesse and Deftness is the other common call, because HVBs already supply volume while Perception adds the rare side gathers and Knowledge Point items. The practical setup is two tools, one Finesse and one Perception, swapped between normal farming and Renowned Beast or Sharpen Your Knife kills.
Best Skinning specialization for gold
Most players who farm mobs for base leather or scales should begin with Thorough Tanning: put 10 points in the base node, then 40 in Superb Scales or Lasting Leather. Players who pursue Majestic materials by hunting Renowned Beasts should begin with Talented Tracker instead. In both cases, Gainful Gathering is the second choice; the two builds finish with the same nodes, though in another order.
Opening Thorough Tanning first is worth it even for Majestic farmers, because it unlocks Sharpen Your Knife, which guarantees a hide or scale from your next skin. Midnight's zones are where the whole Warcraft skinning loop plays out, from Eversong Woods to Voidstorm and the Coiled Isle.
Thorough Tanning
- Opening the tree teaches Sharpen Your Knife, with a second charge at 20 points and a third at 40

- The 40-point bonus unlocks Radiant Stomachs, low-value bag stuffers, so cap this tree at 35 points
- Careful Carving teaches Carve Meat on a 1-hour cooldown and builds +40 Finesse
- Trophy Taker builds +50 Perception and raises both the minimum and maximum species-specific reagents from a single skin at 40 points
- Dedicated Diffuser teaches the Lightbloom Diffuser and the rest of the Diffusers, with no stat or skill bonuses at all
Talented Tracker

Pure Farming build

The two Knowledge books
Echo of Abundance: Skinning comes from Chel the Chip for 1,600 Unalloyed Abundance and 75 Artisan Skinner's Moxie. Whisper of the Loa: Skinning comes from Magovu in Zul'Aman for 75 Artisan Skinner's Moxie and Renown 6 with the Amani Tribe. Artisan Skinner's Moxie is a gathering currency spent at Rendron in Silvermoon (/way #2393 43.2 55.6) on +10 Knowledge Point items or Master Skinner's Surplus Reagents.
Weekly quest and gathering drops
One of three weekly quests is up each week, and all of them reward Thalassian Skinner's Notes for +3 Skinning: 5x Fantastic Fur with 1x Void-Tempered Plating, 20x Void-Tempered Scales, or 20x Void-Tempered Leather. The materials draw automatically from your bags or Warband bank. The repeatable gathering drops are 5x Fine Void-Tempered Hide at 1 Knowledge Point each, after which a Mana-Infused Bone worth 3 can drop; both reset at weekly reset.
Skinning likewise receives a weekly +1 from Inscription via the Thalassian Treatise on Skinning, usable once each week, plus 3 Knowledge Points at the Darkmoon Faire, which begins the Sunday ahead of the first Monday of every month.

Renowned Beasts and lure rotations
Renowned Beasts are the only source of Majestic Claw, Majestic Hide and Majestic Fin, and the lures that summon them are unlocked through the Talented Tracker tree and built from fish.

Each zone has one fixed summoning spot. With the right lure in your bags and your feet in the right place you get a Sixth Sense debuff, and it will not show while you are mounted. Every lure is on its own daily cooldown and they do not share cooldowns, so you can run all five in one day. The beasts are genuinely tough, so wait until skill 90 before working through most of them.
Run the Majestic rotation before your general farming, not after. In a group of five, each player brings one lure and everyone skins all five beasts, which spreads the lure cost across the group.
Diffusers and Mote farming
You throw a Diffuser at any skinnable beast, kill it and skin it to get Motes back. Diffusers have no cooldown; you are limited only by how many Motes you can spend crafting them.

The Dedicated Diffuser sub-spec gives no stat or skill bonuses at all, so it is purely a Mote farming investment. Motes are needed by every profession, Skinners included, for gear, enchants, decor and flasks, so check their price before skipping the system.
Gear and tools
Skinning uses one tool and two accessories, and epic-quality pieces are best in slot. Green pieces are bind on equip from trainer recipes and show up on the Auction House; blue and higher need specialization, faction or renown for the recipe, are bind on pickup, and have to be made through a Crafting Order. Epic pieces differ from blue only in secondary stats, not in primary skill.

Abundance events
Abundance events gate the best-in-slot profession gear and key Knowledge Point purchases. Normal gathering earns Shards of Dundon, and during an Abundance event you trade those for Unalloyed Abundance, which event vendors take for Epic gear components such as Fused Vitality, Knowledge books and material caches. Skip the events and you cannot reach the top gathering stat thresholds or finish the Epic set.

- Worgen: Flayer gives +5 Skinning skill and 25% faster skinning, the best skinning race overall
- Earthen: Hyper Productive gathers more skins, which suits bulk farming of basic materials
- Dracthyr: mobility plus a +2% baseline Perception racial, better for hunting rare reagents
Druid is the strongest class for the job: instant Flight Form removes the mount cast and dismount delay, so the kill → skin → fly → next target loop never stalls.
Best farming spots and routes
There is no single camp that beats everything in Midnight, and finding a solo spot where you never move is hard, just as it was in The War Within.
- Void-Tempered Leather: treat it as a loop around a dense beast area rather than a fixed camp
- Void-Tempered Scales: a spot where Agitated Wyrms and Territorial Dragonhawks are always up, so you can farm without waiting; the large dragonhawks' health is what slows the loop
- Frog Ponds, Eversong Woods: the most beginner-friendly leather farm, a dense cluster of Void-Touched Frogs that respawn roughly every 10–15 seconds
- Zone rotation: Eversong Woods for scales, Zul'Aman for situational density, Harandar routes and the Voidstorm rotation, picked by current density, competition and active events
Aim for 3–4 seconds between skinnable targets and never stand still: kill, skin immediately, move to the next target, with no Auction House checks mid-route. High mob density is not automatically better than a slightly thinner area with higher-value drops, so evaluate density against value as you go.
What Sells for the Most Gold Right Now
Majestic Hide holds the most gold of any skinning leather in both regions, and the only way you get it is the Renowned Beast lures. Fantastic Fur, the furred-creature drop the weekly trainer quest asks for, is the second-biggest pool of gold on the US listing, while the base Void-Tempered Scales sell for a couple of gold a unit despite huge volume.

Sell on raid days, when Leatherworkers are most likely to be crafting and buying. The Undermine Exchange shows price swings per server and which skins are worth farming at that moment. Remember the 5% cut taken when an item sells and the deposit fee, which depends on listing length and comes back on a successful sale. Tools like TradeSkillMaster and Auctionator automate pricing and posting, and undercutting is why you should look for items with fewer active sellers rather than fighting a price war.
