As we all know by now, World of Warcraft Classic has brought to us some of the best features across all expansions so far. With lots of different patches and changes, it’s certain that WoW Classic is not anywhere near similar to other expansions.

In that light, the PvP system differs a lot as well, especially when you compare it to the Battle for Azeroth PvP system. This means that the WoW Classic PvP system is way more complicated as it requires you to put a bit more effort into reaching the top.

Luckily, we’re here to discuss everything you need to know about the PvP system and how PvP gear works in Classic.

PvP Gear –Complete Guide

How Does Pvp Gear Work In Classic?

PvP gear differs a lot from the ordinary gear you can gather by doing quests or dungeons. This kind of gear is specially designed to ensure you have the right ‘’tools’’ to survive Battlegrounds and increase your place in the Honor System.

In other words, PvP gear is essential for your progress and ability to gather as many achievements as you can.

So, how are you able to obtain such gear? Well, there’s a whole story behind that which requires you to advance through the ranks and claim you prizes (gear).

Simply put, here’s what you need to do in order to obtain PvP gear:

  • Advance in the Honor System
  • Move up through the Ranks
  • Purchase Honor Sets from Officer Areyn or Sergeant Ba’sha in 1-5 Ranks
  • Get your Rare and Epic Honor Sets in Champion’s Hall or Hall of Legends

By the looks of it, this seems easy to do. However, you’d be surprised at how much work and effort you have to put into your character to move through the ranks. By constantly advancing through the Ranks, all the way from 1 to 14, you will unlock some new sets.

These sets are either Rare or Epic when it comes to quality. So, let’s take a look at how to move up in the ranks then.

Honor System in WoW Classic – How to Advance through the Ranks

How Does Pvp Gear Work In Classic?

First of all, the Honor System in World of Warcraft Classic was invented in order for players to compare their efforts and achievements. This allows players to exactly see who got more experience and value in the whole PvP world.

So, the question poses here: How can you actually advance and increase your value in the PvP world?

Well, it all comes down to Obtaining Honorable Kills and getting as many Contributing Points as you can.

  1. Honorable Kills

Once you enter the PvP world, you will notice that there are actually quite a lot of things you can do. Among many, you can always enter a Battleground, or perhaps take your fight elsewhere like in any other outdoor PvP activity.

In those activities, you will have an opportunity to kill a member of an opposite fraction – That’s the way you earn Honorable Kills. However, keep in mind that not every kill is considered as an Honorable Kill.

In some cases, you will not get any points for killing a player of an opposite fraction. Namely, there’s a rule saying that Honorable Kills only possible in case the player is 11 levels ahead or below you.

This means that if you’re a 60 level player entering a PvP world, killing a player that’s level 49 will gain you another Honorable Kill. In other cases, you will get Dishonor for killing weaklings (players that are beneath you).

Another thing to mention is that not every Honorable Kill is valued the same, no. For each Honorable Kill, you will get a certain amount of Contribution Points.

  1. Contributing Points

The first thing you need to know about Contributing Points is that they are your reward for killing a player of an opposite fraction. The amount of contributing points you’ll get from one kill is measured by the experience you have.

So, in plain simple words, if you kill a player that has move experience and more contributing points than you, your reward will be bigger. The same goes in the opposite direction.

Killing a player that’s beneath you on the ladder of Contribution points will provide you not that big amount of points.

And, as you can conclude, as you advance further through the ranks, the journey only gets harder and more complicated.

Another great way to earn Contribution points is to successfully complete objectives when you fight on a Battleground. This way, you will both have fun while doing these objectives and you will also be rewarded for your troubles.

Dishonorable Kills

The thing you don’t want to do is to aim for dishonorable kills. We all make mistakes while playing, and therefore, dishonorable kills often occur on the Battleground.

What are they exactly? Well, once you kill a Civilian NPC while raging in a PvP combat, you will get Dishonorable Kill. These civilians are usually players under your level, they can’t do any harm to you so there’s no need to kill them.

Leave them for someone who’s suitable to take them!

So, what happens when you kill a civilian? Well, your honorable points will be lowered immediately. This will result in a loss of contribution points and eventually losing the rank.

Honor System Sets

How Does Pvp Gear Work In Classic?

Now, since you saw how to get honorable kills and contribution points, you can now see how to ‘’spend’’ them. In World of Warcraft Classic, the PvP system is a complicated thing involving many calculations.

Therefore, as you move through the ranks you will unlock sets you can equip on your character.

Each class has two different honor sets to choose from. However, you will first need to work your way up to earn them. Honor sets are available once you reach rank 7 Knight-Lieutenant or Blood Guard.

Also, it’s important to mention that you’ll get only pieces of sets as you advance. So, you will be able to complete the whole set only on higher levels and ranks.

Now, let’s take a look at these sets we’re talking about.

There are unique sets for each class and they can vary within class depending on their ‘’quality’’. That’s why we have:

  • Rare Sets – They are available from rank 7
  • Epic Sets – They are available from rank 12

As we can see, there’s lots of room for progress as you start your journey in the PvP world. The more you play and advance, the better are rewards in terms of sets.

Also, one great benefit of collecting these sets is that you’ll be able to get bonuses for each piece you collect. So, with a 2-piece set you’ll have great bonuses, but with a 6-piece set you’ll get the best bonuses.

PvP Gear Use –Battleground

How Does Pvp Gear Work In Classic?

There’s no better way to use PvP gear than having it equipped on your character while you storm through Battleground. As we all know, Battlegrounds are referred to as places where you can freely engage in PvP battle and combat.

For starters, there are two ways to enter a Battleground:

  • Entering via Portal at the Battleground location
  • Queuing with Battlemasters

Either way, you’ll end up in the same place – Battleground.

Anyhow, once you enter this kind of activity, let’s see what’s waiting for you there. Main objectives you must complete in order to gain points on Battleground are:

  • Flag capturing – Located in Warsong Gulch
  • Base stealing – Located in Arathi Basin
  • Lieutenant Kill – Located in Alterac Valley

Anyway, you will have a handful of chores to do here, and, it’s certain that you’ll have a blast while doing so. Also, one thing that’s quite interesting and good to know about Battlegrounds is that every player will get the same amount of Honor points, no matter the outcome.

Conclusion

With everything said so far, it’s only logical to conclude that PvP gear is definitely essential for each character strolling through the lands of World of Warcraft Classic. Also, PvP gear works best if it’s used in order to gain Honor Points and unlock better sets.

After all, there are only a few ways you can go by here since PvP activities are quite interesting and concise. Make sure to engage only using PvP gear as it offers many bonuses and great benefits for all classes.
