Warcraft Mounts Hunters, We Got Some Updates!

Ah, the thrill of the mount hunt! Expanding your collection is a beloved pastime in World of Warcraft, but some older mount farms have historically required significant time investment or frustrating RNG. Thankfully, due to various quality-of-life improvements, scaling changes, faster resets, direct requirement reductions, and the game-changing introduction of Warbands, many previously tedious farms are now much more accessible, making it easier to obtain mounts. This makes some previously hard-to-get mounts into some of the easiest mounts for dedicated collectors now.

This guide explores over 20 such mounts, highlighting why they are easier to obtain now and providing updated, efficient strategies to add them to your collection. Many are now considered pretty easy targets in World of Warcraft.

Cataclysm Raid: Dragon Soul Speedrun

Less Grind, More Mounts

Location: Dragon Soul raid, Caverns of Time, Tanaris. An iconic source for older mount collectors.

Key Change: Major time-saving adjustments on 25-Player Heroic difficulty, drastically reducing clear times from ~20 minutes down to ~10 minutes or less. Running 25H is recommended as it’s required for the Handmaiden anyway and benefits from all speed increases.

Experiment 12-B:

Source: Rare drop from Ultraxion (Any difficulty, but farm on 25H). Often the first mount people try for on a run through.

Why Easier Now: Raid clear time reduction. Ultraxion now only requires killing 5 Twilight Assault Drakes to spawn (down from 15), significantly speeding up this phase.

Life-Binder’s Handmaiden:

Source: Drops from Madness of Deathwing (25 Heroic only), the last boss of the raid. Drop rate is fairly common.

Why Easier Now: Benefits from all raid speed-ups, especially the Spine encounter.

Wow: 20+ Mount Farms

Blazing Drake

Source: Also drops from Madness of Deathwing (Any difficulty, rarer than Handmaiden), the raid’s last encounter.

Why Easier Now: Benefits from raid speed-ups. (Note: Deathwing, the final encounter, can drop these two mounts randomly).

Twilight Harbinger

Source: Received for the World of Warcraft meta-achievement “Glory of the Dragon Soul Raider”.

Why Easier Now: While the achievement tactics remain, the overall raid clear is much faster, making attempts less time-consuming. Still requires a minimum of 4 weeks due to the “Holding Hands” achievement component needing specific boss rotations.

Farming Strategy & Key Changes

Quick Wins: 20+ Wow Mounts

Overall Speed: The entire raid is faster on 25H.

Ultraxion: Spawns after killing only 5 drakes (was 15).

Warmaster Blackhorn (Warship): Assault Drakes appear much faster, shortening the wait time.

Spine of Deathwing (Biggest Time Saver): Previously required killing 9 Corrupted Bloods near a Nuclear Tendon to lift each armor plate (repeated 3 times). Now, you only need ONE Corrupted Blood explosion per plate. This turns a lengthy, tedious fight into a quick process that might only take five minutes once you get the hang of it. (Context: The old method involved managing rolls to avoid falling off during the three plate removals, often called the ‘three falls’ phase by players, which is now trivialized).

Effortless Mount Collecting

RP Skip Tip: After killing Hagara the Stormbinder, take the central drake up to Wyrmrest Summit. Immediately click the portal back down to the main floor, then head up again using your own mount. This skips RP dialogue and gets you to the Eye of Eternity portal (leading to Ultraxion) about 1.5 minutes faster along the intended path.

Method: Run Dragon Soul weekly on 25 Heroic on multiple characters. The main bottleneck is now just the limited weekly lockout and RNG for the drops.

Legion PvP World Quests: Warband Efficiency

Prestigious War Steed (Alliance) / Prestigious War Wolf (Horde):

Wow Tww Mount Guide

Source: Received for the World of Warcraft meta-achievement “Free For All, More For Me”.

Requirement: Complete 4 specific Legion PvP World Quests 20 times each, totaling 80 completions.

Operation Murloc Freedom Azsuna
Bareback Brawl Stormheim
Darkbrul Arena Highmountain
Black Rook Rumble Val’sharah
The Warbands Effect

Why Easier Now: Warbands! Achievement progress is now account-wide. Previously, you needed 80 completions on one character, waiting potentially months for the quests to cycle. Now, if a required WQ is active, you can complete it on multiple characters, and each completion counts towards the single account-wide achievement tracker. This makes this previously lengthy older mount grind relatively easy to get.

Farming Strategy: Park multiple alts (level 45+ required for Legion WQs) in the Broken Isles. When one of the four required PvP WQs appears, log through as many characters as you have (up to the 20 needed per specific quest) and complete it on each. With enough characters (e.g., 20), you can complete each sub-achievement the very first time its corresponding World Quest appears.

PvP Note: You will be flagged for PvP, but you generally don’t need to fight other players. Completing the objective (usually killing NPCs) is sufficient.

Legion & BFA Currencies: Account-Wide Pooling

Arcadian War Turtle

Wow Mount Guide: 20+ Collectibles

Source: Purchased from Xur’ios in Legion Dalaran (Broken Isles). Vendor location rotates within Dalaran; you’ll need to visit him when he’s offering the mount.

Why Easier Now: Warbands! Curious Coins are now effectively account-bound (transferable between characters on the same account via the Warbands Bank or mail). You can farm Emissaries on many alts and pool the coins onto one character for the purchase. This makes this previously lengthy mount grind relatively easy to get with some consistent effort. These could be considered some of the easiest mounts to get via Warbands if you have tons of alts.

Cost: 150 Curious Coins (The price is paid in this specific currency, not standard gold).

Coin Sources: Legion Emissary caches, Paragon reputation caches (Legion factions), small chance from Legion dungeon/raid bosses.

Farming Strategy: Check daily for Legion Emissaries. Complete them on as many alts as possible. Check Xur’ios daily, as his rare stock (including the mount) rotates. Pool coins via Warband Bank/mail when needed.

Snapback Scuttler

20+ Wow Mounts

Source: Received from the Nazjatar meta-achievement “Undersea Usurper”.

Why Easier Now: Part of the BFA “A Farewell to Arms” meta-achievement update, several sub-achievements were made easier.

Warbands: Achievement progress is account-wide.

Rare Rares: Requires killing 35 specific rares (down from 40, with 5 notoriously difficult ones removed).

How 20+ Wow Mount Farms Got Easier

Periodic Destruction (Significant Change): Used to require killing all 13 specific mobs in Mardivas’s Laboratory over ~3 months (weekly lockout). Now, thanks to account-wide progress, you can kill any of the 13 required mobs on different alts each week. With 13+ alts completing the weekly quest (“The Laboratory of Mardivas”), you can finish this achievement in one week instead of three months. (Requires unlocking the weekly quest via the initial Nazjatar quests first). Basically, you just need to kill the required mobs across any characters each week.

Farming Strategy: Utilize Warbands progress. Focus on chipping away at requirements across multiple characters, especially for “Periodic Destruction”.

Your Checklist: 20+ Wow Mounts

Source: Reward from the Mechagon meta-achievement “Mecha-Done”.

Why Easier Now: Also part of the “A Farewell to Arms” update, reducing requirements for grindy sub-achievements.

Warbands: Achievement progress is account-wide (especially helpful for blueprints).

Available in Eight Colors: Requires completing only 15 visitor daily quests (down from 32).

Junkyard Architect: Requires obtaining only 30 blueprints (down from all 38).

Farming Strategy: Leverage Warbands for shared progress. Focus on the reduced visitor quest and blueprint requirements.

Sandy Nightsaber (Alliance) / Captured Dune Scavenger (Horde)

20+ Wow Farms Made Less Painful

Source: Purchased from Provisioner Stoutforge (Alliance, Boralus) / Provisioner Mukra (Horde, Dazar’alor).

Cost: 350 Service Medals.

Prerequisite: Complete one Darkshore Warfront on Heroic difficulty.

Why Easier Now: Warbands Currency Pooling. Service Medals are account-bound (but NOT cross-faction).

Azure Crolusk (Alliance) / Ruby Crolusk (Horde)

Source: Same vendors as above.

Cost: 200 Service Medals.

Why Easier Now: Warbands Currency Pooling.

Save Time Farming

Priestess’s Moonsaber (Alliance) / Bloodthirsty Dreadwing (Horde)

Source: Same vendors as above. (Many consider these particularly cool mounts).

Cost: 750 Service Medals.

Why Easier Now: Warbands Currency Pooling.

Service Medal Farming Strategy (Mounts 9-11):

Sources:

  • World Quests in Darkshore / Arathi Highlands (when faction controls): 1 Medal each.
  • BFA Zone Assaults: 5 Medals each.
  • 7th Legion / Honorbound Paragon Caches: 20 Medals each.
  • Warfront Completions (Normal/Heroic): Variable, decent amount.

Method: Complete these activities on multiple characters of the same faction. Pool the Service Medals using the Warband Bank or mail system onto one character to make purchases. Remember, medals cannot be transferred between Alliance and Horde characters.

Shadowlands Dungeons & Scenarios: Scaling & Daily Resets

This expansion added some unique farms.

Cartel Master’s Gearglider

Dominate Your Mount Journal

Source: Rare drop from So’leah, the last encounter of Tazavesh, the Veiled Market (Shadowlands Megadungeon).

Location: Entrance in Oribos.

Why Easier Now: Scaling & Monk Exploit. Soloing So’leah used to take 45+ minutes in Dragonflight due to mechanics. Now, with increased player power/scaling, the fight is significantly faster (a few minutes). Additionally, Monks can use Touch of Death shortly after Phase 2 begins for an instant kill. Farmable daily per character on Heroic or Mythic difficulty.

Farming Strategy: Run Tazavesh daily on Heroic and/or Mythic difficulty on multiple characters. If you have a Monk, use Touch of Death on So’leah after she splits in Phase 2 for the fastest kill.

20+ Wow Mounts You Can Get Faster

Tazavesh Gearglider (Achievement Mount)

Source: Guaranteed reward for completing the “Fake It ‘Til You Make It” achievement (completing Tazavesh on Mythic difficulty with Hard Mode active). This dungeon offers these two mounts in total.

Why Easier Now: While the complex Hard Mode activation steps remain unchanged… This makes the achievement itself one of the easiest mounts of its type to get now, provided you follow the steps.

Farm These 20+ More Easily

Hard Mode Activation Strategy:

  1. Get Quest: Pick up “The Alley-Cat of Oribos” from Host Ta’lora in Oribos (Idol of the Queen). Complete the short intro quest chain to unlock Tazavesh. Pick up “The Alley-Cat of Oribos” from Host Ta’lora in Oribos (Idol of the Queen). Complete the short intro chain to unlock Tazavesh.
  2. Heroic Start: Set dungeon difficulty to Heroic and enter. Kill Zo’phex.
  3. Get Necklace: Go outside the portal area (but still in the instance zone) near the flight master. Buy the Fraudulent Credentials necklace from the Questionable Trader NPC that spawns after the first boss kill.
  4. Password Puzzle: Proceed to Myza’s Oasis. Interact with the door guard. Buy one random trade good item from the vendor nearby (it appears on the ground). Find the NPC trader logically interested in that item within the Oasis, talk to them, and trade it. Repeat this process two more times with different items (3 total trades). The final trader gives you the password.
  5. Upgrade Necklace: Enter the Oasis back rooms, go downstairs. Equip the Fraudulent Credentials necklace. Speak to Au’manal to upgrade it to Passably-Forged Credentials.
  6. Accept Quest: Equip the new necklace (it goes into your bags). Accept the quest Au’manal offers.
  7. Mythic Activation: Exit the instance. Change difficulty to Mythic. Re-enter.
  8. Enable HM: Click (use) your Passably-Forged Credentials necklace (gives you a Broker disguise buff). Speak to the Fezzed Security guard near the entrance. He will let you bypass the first trash pack, confirming Hard Mode is active.
  9. Clear Dungeon: Clear all the remaining bosses. The second is from this dungeon drops from So’leah upon completion of Hard Mode.

Hulking Deathroc

The Wow Mount Collector'S Opportunity List

Source: Rare drop from the Violet Mistake, a rare spawn mob in Maldraxxus, Shadowlands.

Location: Spawned from the Pool of Mixed Monstrosities (House of Constructs area). Triggering this specific rare spawn requires mixing reagents.

Why Easier Now: Skyriding (Dragonriding)! Spawning the rare involves collecting colored slimes from nearby mobs and depositing them into the pool. Carrying these slimes used to heavily slow your run/mount speed. The speed debuff does not apply to Skyriding mounts.

Spawning: Collect Red, Blue, and Yellow slimes. Deposit them in the pool until the bar reaches 30/30. To spawn the Violet Mistake, the final mix in the pool needs to be predominantly Purple (mix of Red and Blue).

Farming Strategy: Use Skyriding. Swoop in, grab a colored slime, fly at full speed to the pool. You can drop the color while hovering just above the pool surface to avoid landing/wasting Vigor. Use Aerial Halt right before landing to grab the next slime for an extra Vigor point. This is significantly faster than ground travel. Still a daily lockout per character.

Desire’s Battle Gargon

Desire'S Battle Gargon

Source: Reward from the Ember Court scenario (Venthyr Covenant Feature, Shadowlands).

Requirement: Reach “Best Friend” reputation status with The Countess guest.

Why Easier Now: Daily Reset! The Ember Court scenario used to be weekly, meaning reaching Best Friend took a minimum of 9 weeks. It is now daily.

Farming Strategy:

  1. Unlock the Ember Court via your Venthyr Sanctum Upgrades. Upgrade it to Tier 4 to be able to invite The Countess.
  2. Check daily with Temel or Lord Garridan which guests are available. If The Countess isn’t listed, use the dialogue option to “Revoke an Invitation” (costs a few Infused Rubies) until she appears as an option.
  3. Complete her short RSVP quest (like a mini daily quest chain) out in the world (usually Revendreth).
  4. Invite her to your Ember Court. Run the scenario focusing on activities that increase DecadentRelaxing, and Formal moods (her preferences).
  5. Successfully satisfy her for 8 Ember Court runs to reach Best Friend status.
  6. On the 9th successful run where she attends after reaching Best Friend, the mount is a guaranteed drop in her loot chest. Takes a minimum of 9 days instead of 9 weeks!

16-18. Other Mounts, Necroray Mounts (Infested, Bulbous, Pestilent):

The Wow Mount Collector'S Opportunity List

Source: Chance to hatch from a Preserved Necroray Egg.

Egg Source: Necrolord Calling gives chests (Cache of the Necropolis) from Maldraxxus Callings.

Why Easier Now: Drastically Increased Drop Rate! The chance of obtaining a Preserved Necroray Egg from these caches was significantly buffed post-Shadowlands, making these three much more easy to get mounts than before. Collecting these gives you more mounts for your Shadowlands tally.

Farming Strategy: Do Callings that drop a Cache of the Necropolis (typically those taking place in Maldraxxus). You do not need to be Necrolord covenant to get these caches from Maldraxxus world quests, but being Necrolord gives slightly more chances via covenant-specific calling chests (like Torghast or specific resource turn-ins). The eggs contain one of the three different mounts you don’t already have (no duplicates). You just need to obtain three eggs total. Much less RNG-dependent than before!

Dragonflight Dungeons & Raids: Solo Power

Looking for some new mounts from the Dragon Isles? These are now easier to solo, making them a good target even for relatively new players with decent gear.

20+ Collectibles Easier

Ivory Trader’s Ottuk:

Source: Purchased from Tattukiaka in Iskaara, Azure Span (Dragonflight).

Cost: Requires trading 3 specific, different items (rings) from Dragonflight dungeons.

Iskaara Trader’s Ottuk:

Source: Same vendor, Tattukiaka.

Cost: Requires trading 2 specific necklaces from the Vault of the Incarnates raid.

Why Easier Now: Scaling & Soloability. When Dragonflight was current, obtaining these specific BoP items often required group content (Mythic+, Raiding). Now, the relevant Normal dungeons and LFR/Normal Vault of the Incarnates bosses are easily soloable due to level and gear scaling advantages.

Epiccarry: best wow boost and coaching services

What makes these specific mounts “easier” to get now compared to before?

They’ve become easier due to several factors mentioned in the guide: significant scaling changes making old content trivial, the introduction of Warbands allowing account-wide achievement/currency progress, direct reductions in achievement requirements (like BFA metas), faster instance/scenario resets (daily vs. weekly), specific encounter speed-ups (like Dragon Soul), or drastically increased drop rates (like Necroray Eggs).

Do I absolutely need Warbands active to benefit from these easier farms?

While not all mounts listed rely solely on Warbands, it’s a major factor for several key ones. Specifically, Warbands significantly speeds up the Legion PvP mount, the BFA achievement mounts (Undersea Usurper, Mecha-Done), and makes accumulating currencies like Curious Coins and Service Medals much faster. So, while you can do some farms without focusing on Warband features, utilizing them is highly recommended for maximum efficiency on many mounts listed.

Does “easier” mean these mounts are guaranteed or instant?

Not necessarily. “Easier” primarily means the time investment, difficulty, or RNG frustration has been significantly reduced. Many mounts listed still rely on random drops (like Experiment 12-B or Cartel Master’s Gearglider), but the attempts are much faster or more frequent. Some mounts are guaranteed once requirements are met (like the Tazavesh Hard Mode glider or Desire’s Battle Gargon after reaching Best Friend).

How much faster is Dragon Soul now?

The guide states clear times on 25 Heroic have been roughly halved, from around 20 minutes down to 10 minutes or less, primarily due to the changes to Ultraxion’s spawn requirement and the massive simplification of the Spine of Deathwing encounter.

For the Legion PvP Mount (Prestigious War Steed/Wolf), do I actually have to fight other players?

The guide explicitly mentions that while you will be flagged for PvP, you generally don’t need to engage in player-vs-player combat. Completing the World Quest objectives, which often involve killing NPCs, is usually sufficient to get credit.

Can I really solo the Dragonflight dungeons and raid bosses needed for the Ottuk mounts?

Yes, the guide highlights that due to player power increases and scaling advantages after the Dragonflight expansion ended, the specific Normal difficulty dungeons (Nokhud, Azure Vault, Algeth’ar) and the LFR/Normal Vault of the Incarnates bosses (Terros, Dathea) mentioned are now considered easily soloable by appropriately leveled characters.

Is the Tazavesh Hard Mode Gearglider a guaranteed drop?

Yes. The guide confirms that if you successfully activate Hard Mode (following the specific steps involving the necklace, password, etc.) and defeat the final boss So’leah on Mythic difficulty while Hard Mode is active, the Tazavesh Gearglider mount is a guaranteed reward from the achievement.

How much faster is getting Desire’s Battle Gargon now?

The biggest change is the Ember Court scenario becoming daily instead of weekly. This reduces the minimum time to reach “Best Friend” with The Countess from 9 weeks down to just 9 days (assuming you run it successfully each day she’s available).

Are the Necroray Egg drop rates really that much better?

Yes, the guide emphasizes that the drop chance for Preserved Necroray Eggs from Necrolord Calling Caches was “drastically increased” post-Shadowlands, making obtaining the three Necroray mounts much less dependent on extreme RNG than it was during the expansion.

Do I need multiple characters (alts) for these farms?

While not strictly required for every mount, having alts is highly beneficial or almost necessary for maximum efficiency on many listed farms. They allow for:

  • More daily/weekly attempts on lockouts (Dragon Soul, Tazavesh, Hulking Deathroc).
  • Faster Warband achievement progress (Legion PvP, BFA Metas).
  • Faster Warband currency pooling (Curious Coins, Service Medals).

Can I pool currencies like Service Medals between my Horde and Alliance characters?

No. The guide specifically notes that while Service Medals can be pooled via Warbands between characters of the same faction, they cannot be transferred between Alliance and Horde characters.

Do I need Skyriding (Dragonriding) to farm the Hulking Deathroc?

While technically possible without it, Skyriding makes the process significantly faster and easier. The guide highlights that the speed debuff from carrying slimes does not apply to Skyriding mounts, allowing you to transport the reagents much more quickly than running or using a standard mount.

What level character do I generally need for these farms?

The guide doesn’t specify exact levels, but generally:

  • For Cataclysm/Legion/BFA content, a max-level character (currently 70, soon 80 in TWW) will trivialize the content due to scaling. Legion WQs require level 45+.
  • For Shadowlands content (Tazavesh, Ember Court, Necrorays, Deathroc), a max-level character is strongly recommended for ease and speed, especially for soloing Tazavesh.
  • For Dragonflight soloing (Ottuk items), you’ll need a well-geared max-level character from after Dragonflight (i.e., from TWW) for comfortable soloing of Normal dungeons/LFR/Normal raid bosses.

Where exactly is the vendor for the Ottuk mounts?

The guide states the vendor is Tattukiaka, located in Iskaara within the Azure Span zone in the Dragon Isles.

Are there other mounts made easier that aren’t listed here?

This guide focuses on 20+ specific examples where the ease of acquisition has notably changed due to recent updates (Warbands, scaling, resets, etc.). There are likely other older mounts that are simply easy due to age/scaling (like many basic reputation mounts or very old raid drops), but this list specifically targets those impacted by recent quality-of-life improvements or system changes.
