What is Contest Mode in Destiny 2?
Contest Mode in Destiny 2 is a challenge that happens during the first two days of new raids or dungeons. It makes everything harder by setting a power level limit, so no one can overpower the enemies by leveling up before the activity starts. Contest Mode evens the playing field and offers special rewards for those who complete the activity while the mode is active.
Opening Encounter: Embarkation
In this first encounter, you need to clear enemies, use Scanner and Operator augments, and shoot the right White Panels to open the way forward. Communication is important because only the Scanner can see which panels to shoot, and if the wrong one is hit, the player with the Operator augment will die.
Here’s what happens:
- Start the encounter by moving through the area and clearing the enemies called Marauders. Watch out because they can turn invisible.
- After the Marauders are gone, a message will pop up: “A Viral Carrier Approaches!” This means more enemies will spawn.
- Kill the Viral Carriers. They will drop two buffs: the Scanner augment and the Operator augment.
- The player with the Scanner sees which White Panels need to be shot, and the Operator must shoot them.
- Be careful! If the wrong panel is shot, the Operator dies instantly.
- You need to shoot 4 panels in the correct order to unlock the airlock and move to the next area.
Once the airlock is open, go through the path, avoid Tripmine grenades, and reach the next room.
Step | What to Do |
Clear enemies | Kill the Marauders in the starting area. |
Look for Viral Carriers | A message says “A Viral Carrier Approaches!” Kill them. |
take Augments | Scanner and Operator augments will drop from the Viral Carriers. |
Use Scanner | The player with the Scanner augment checks which White Panels need to be shot. |
Use Operator | The player with the Operator augment shoots the correct panels called by the Scanner. |
Shoot 4 Panels | You need to shoot 4 correct panels to move forward. |
Unlock airlock | After shooting all the panels, the airlock will open. |
Avoid Tripmines | Move through the next area, avoiding or destroying Tripmine grenades. |
Activate the Security system Encounter
In this encounter, your goal is to deposit three nuclear cores to an AI unit. You will fight enemies, use buffs like Scanner and Operator, and carry nuclear cores while avoiding too many Radiation stacks.
Here’s how it works:
- Start the encounter by activating the AI orb in the middle of the room. This will spawn lots of enemies, including a Brig miniboss.
- Kill the Brig, then a Scanner Vandal will appear. Grab the Scanner buff.
- Go into one of the side rooms (any one will do). Kill all enemies inside to unlock the next area.
- Find the correct panels using the Scanner. An Operator will shoot the panels to spawn a nuclear core.
- Escort the nuclear core back to the main room, but be careful! Carrying the core gives you Radiation stacks. If your stacks reach 10, you’ll die. Drop the core if needed.
- Kill the next Brig, then deposit the core in the middle room.
- Repeat this process until all three cores are deposited to finish the encounter.
Step | What to Do |
Start encounter | Activate AI orb in the main room to begin. |
Kill Brig | Focus on destroying the Brig miniboss first. |
Grab Scanner buff | Kill the Scanner Vandal and take the buff. |
Enter side room | Go into any side room and kill enemies. |
Find correct panels | Use Scanner to read panels; use Operator to shoot them. |
Spawn nuclear core | Correct panel triggers a nuclear core. |
Escort nuclear core | Carry the core to the middle room, watch for Radiation stacks (don’t reach 10). |
Kill Brig again | Another Brig will spawn, kill it before depositing the core. |
Deposit the core | Put the core in the AI unit. |
Repeat | Repeat until three nuclear cores are deposited. |
This process repeats three times. Watch for Radiation stacks and manage your buffs to complete the encounter smoothly.
Escape The Maze encounter
In this encounter, you need to go through a maze while avoiding the boss, Raneiks Unified, and depositing nuclear cores. You’ll have a buff called Power Reserves that allows you to open rooms for safety or progress. To move forward, you must kill Fallen Captains, grab the nuclear cores, and deposit them in the correct stations.
Here’s how it works:
- The encounter begins after you dunk the third nuclear core.
- You’ll enter a maze where Raneiks Unified follows you. You must avoid it.
- Use the Power Reserves buff to unlock safe rooms.
- Kill Fallen Captains to get nuclear cores.
- Deposit the cores in the correct order by following the number on the deposit stations.
- Each successful deposit lets you go further in the maze.
- Once all deposits are done, you can reach the end of the maze and face Raneiks Unified.
Step | What to Do |
Start the encounter | Dunk the third nuclear core to enter the maze. |
Avoid Raneiks Unified | Run through the maze and avoid the boss following you. |
Use Power Reserves | Open rooms with the Power Reserves buff to stay safe. |
Kill Fallen Captains | Defeat the Captains to get nuclear cores. |
Deposit nuclear cores | Find the correct station with the number and deposit the core. |
Progress in maze | Each successful core deposit gives more energy to continue. |
Destiny 2 Vesper’s Host Dungeon | Raneix Unified Boss Strategy
Raneix Unified is a tough boss in the Vesper’s Host dungeon. To defeat him, your team must use special augment roles: suppressor, scanner, and operator. First, kill the Machine Priest to get teleported to the boss room. The suppressor stuns Raneix by using grenades under him.
The scanner identifies which nodes to shoot, and the operator must destroy those nodes. After the nodes are destroyed, you can damage Raneix. Repeat this process until he is defeated.
Feature | Description |

Location | Teleported after killing the Machine Priest |
Power Level Requirement | 1985 for Contest Mode |

Figuring Out Panel Numbers | Destiny 2 Vesper’s host dungeon guide
In this encounter, you need to figure out which Servitors have markings and use that information to shoot the correct panels. Then, start the DPS phase and attack Raneiks Unified. Here’s what you do:
- The encounter begins with Raneiks and some Shanks on the upper floor. Kill a Shank to get the Suppressor augment.
- Use the Suppressor to split Raneiks Unified into ten Servitors. Look for the two Servitors with markings.
- Record the Servitors’ names to know which panels to shoot on the lower floor (for example, shoot panels 3 and 9 if Servitors 3 and 9 are marked).
- Repeat this process to get four numbers and activate all four panels.
- Use the Operator augment to shoot the panels. This starts the DPS phase.
- During the DPS phase, use heavy weapons like grenade launchers to damage the boss when it splits into marked Servitors.
- After 15 seconds, the Servitors will reassemble, and the process will reset. Repeat until Raneiks is destroyed.
Step | What to Do |
Start the encounter | Kill Shanks to get the Suppressor augment. |
Split Raneiks Unified | Use the Suppressor to split the boss into 10 Servitors. |
Find marked Servitors | Look for 2 Servitors with markings and record their names. |
Shoot panels | Shoot the correct panels based on the Servitors’ markings. |
Get 4 numbers | Repeat the process to get all 4 panel numbers. |
Use Operator augment | Use the Operator augment to shoot the panels. |
DPS phase | Attack the marked Servitors with heavy weapons during DPS. |
Repeat the process | After DPS ends, repeat the process until Raneiks is destroyed. |
After finishing the encounter, continue to the next section by following the path outside the space station during a magnetic storm.
The Corrupted Puppeteer boss Guide | Destiny 2 Vesper’s host dungeon guide
In this encounter, you face the Corrupted Puppeteer, the final boss of the dungeon. You need to deal with Puppets, shoot the White Panels, and use the Operator, Scanner, and Suppressor augments to progress. The boss will spawn Puppets that are invincible unless you use the right abilities to remove their shields and weaken them.
Here’s what happens:
- Begin the encounter by shooting the purple ball.
- Atraks-1 (the boss) spawns with two Puppets that will chase and damage you. They cause Radiation debuff, so avoid them until you can deal with them.
- Kill the Suppressor Carrier to get the Suppressor augment. Use it to make the Puppets vulnerable by detonating blue decoys with your grenade.
- Kill the Puppets and wait for the next phase.
- Scanner and Operator Carriers will spawn. Use the Scanner augment to find the correct Blue Panels.
- The Operator must shoot the matching White Panels with the same number as the Blue Panels.
- Doors open and more Puppets spawn. Repeat the process of scanning, operating, and killing until you finish the boss.
Step | What to Do |
Start the encounter | Shoot the purple ball to summon Atraks and Puppets. |
Deal with Puppets | Use the Suppressor augment to remove the Puppet shields and kill them. |
Use Scanner and Operator | Find the correct Blue Panel with the Scanner and shoot the matching White Panels with the Operator. |
Doors open | Follow the alarms and go through the doors while avoiding enemies. |
Repeat the process | Keep scanning, shooting, and killing until the boss is defeated. |
List of Wipe Mechanics
- Radiation debuff — If the Puppets stay near you too long, you gain too many Radiation stacks and die.
- Wrong Puppet kill — Killing the wrong Puppet triggers a countdown to wipe the team.
- Panel mistake — If the Operator shoots the wrong White Panel, it can trigger a wipe.
- Timed alarm lights — Not following the correct path through the alarm lights fast enough may cause a wipe.
- Charge builds in the portal — At the start, if you stay in the room too long without jumping into the hole, you’ll wipe.
Communicate well and use the augments correctly to defeat the Corrupted Puppeteer!
Destiny 2 Vesper’s Host Dungeon | Ice breaker
Ice Breaker is a powerful exotic sniper rifle you can get in the Vesper’s Host dungeon. It was first in Destiny 1 and has returned in Destiny 2 with some changes. It can regenerate ammo on its own without reloading. Ice Breaker’s bullets make enemies explode, and if you get precision kills or shatter frozen enemies, it causes even more damage by burning other nearby enemies. You can try to get this gun by completing the dungeon, especially in Contest Mode.
Feature | Description |
Weapon Type | Exotic Solar sniper rifle |
Special Ability | Regenerates ammo without needing to reload |
Ammo Type | Special ammo |
Damage Effect | Causes enemies to explode on kill |
Bonus Effects | Precision kills and frozen enemies cause Solar Ignition and burn nearby foes |
How to Obtain | Random drop in the Vesper’s Host dungeon, better chances in Contest Mode |
Original Release | First appeared in Destiny 1 |
Ice Breaker is an exotic sniper rifle in Destiny 2, and it’s famous for one thing: you never have to reload! That’s right, this baby regenerates its own ammo.
It’s been a fan favorite since Destiny 1, now making its return with tweaks for Year 3. Its explosive shots make it perfect for both PvE and PvP, especially when you miss—don’t worry, it might just give you the bullet back. Ice Breaker is the ideal weapon for people who want to chill and watch enemies explode.
Perk | Description |
Solar Damage | This weapon deals Solar damage—perfect for making enemies too hot to handle. |
No Backpack | No reloading! Ammo regenerates over time. So sit back, relax, and let the bullets come to you. |
Infuse | Feed this weapon your more powerful gear to make it stronger. It’s like Ice Breaker on protein shakes. |
Accurized Ballistics | More range and impact, but hold on tight—this thing kicks like a solar-powered mule. |
Field Choke | Increased range and impact. Your shots hit hard, but so does the recoil—good luck controlling that! |
Linear Compensator | Predictable recoil! (Not boring, just predictable.) Slight boosts to range and impact for smooth shooting. |
Mulligan | Miss a shot? No worries, the bullet might just come back! Perfect for those “Oops, I missed” moments. |
Quickdraw | Draw this weapon faster than a cowboy in a space-western showdown. |
Lightweight | Makes you feel lighter when holding it. It’s like a gym workout, but with bullets. |
Snapshot | Aim faster than your Guardian can say “Headshot!” Because who has time to aim slowly? |
Ice Breaker | Enemies explode when you kill them. Chain reaction! Now with extra fireballs for free. |
Ornament: Dunemaker | Adds a stylish ornament to your gun. Because who says destruction can’t be fashionable? |
Ornament: Nanohance | Another ornament, this time for a more “techy” vibe. Looks cool, shoots cooler. |

Ice Breaker god roll
- PvP God Roll
Perks: Quickdraw, Snapshot
Why: You want speed in PvP. Quickdraw lets you pull out Ice Breaker faster than your opponent can react, and Snapshot makes aiming quicker, so you can hit those precision shots and make enemies explode. - PvE God Roll
Perks: Mulligan, Ice Breaker
Why: In PvE, Mulligan helps you keep firing when you miss a shot, and Ice Breaker’s explosion perk will spread the damage to nearby enemies, turning a simple kill into a fiery chain reaction.
Destiny 2 Vesper’s Host Dungeon | Lore
The Vesper’s Host dungeon is about exploring a place called the Braytech building. Robots called Exos were made there, but in a bad way. They did experiments on people, and they used dangerous things from the Vex and the Darkness. This made a lot of problems. Guardians need to go inside and find out what went wrong.
Atraks is a boss from a different raid. She was the first Eliksni (Fallen) robot, made with human minds and Vex stuff. Guardians beat her before, but now she’s back, and they need to fight her again.
The Braytech building is linked to a place called the Deep Stone Crypt. This is where they did bad experiments to make Exos.
The experiments used the Darkness and Vex things, which caused big problems. Guardians will fight enemies and solve puzzles to learn the truth.
The goal is to find out why strange signals are coming from this old building. Guardians need to discover the truth about the bad things Clovis Bray did. The deeper they go, the more they will learn about the Vex, Exos, and Braytech’s bad past.

Conclusion
The Vesper’s Host Dungeon in Destiny 2 is a fun, but hard place where players fight bosses, solve puzzles, and get cool rewards. You need a team of three, and during the first 48 hours, Contest Mode makes it harder but gives better prizes, like the Ice Breaker sniper rifle.
To win, teams use special buffs like the yellow scanner augment, red operator augment, and blue suppressor. You must shoot the correct puppet and deal as much damage as possible during the damage phase. Boss fights, like against Raneix Unified and the Corrupted Puppeteer, require careful planning and teamwork.
The dungeon has many steps. In the first encounter, you need to kill fallen enemies and grab augments. Later, you must carry nuclear cores while avoiding the radiation debuff. You will also need to open four doors and solve puzzles. Be careful of the wipe mechanics, like when the timer expires or when the wrong puppet is killed.
Players can get powerful weapons like hand cannons and rocket launchers, and armor pieces from reward chests. If you follow the steps, stay calm, and work as a team, you’ll win and unlock great prizes in this dungeon!
