Updated November 2, 2026 for the run-up to the WoW Forever launch on November 4, 2026. Written from the beta; details can change at launch.
WoW Forever server status before launch means the beta is closed and the game worlds are unavailable for play until the November 4 opening. You select a ruleset rather than a traditional realm, so a missing realm list is part of the game's design. The troubleshooting examples below concern the beta and pre-launch reservation period.
Launch time and pre-launch access
The servers will open worldwide at the same instant on November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST, or 23:00 UTC; in central Europe, that is midnight CET on November 5.
Early Name Reservation began October 27 and runs through November 3, allowing eligible accounts to reserve names for three characters in total across rulesets. Creating two characters under one ruleset leaves room for only one under another during this window; this limit applies specifically to early reservation.
Access is tied to a World of Warcraft: Forever Digital Upgrade or Collector's Edition purchase, or to pre-purchase of the Skyborne Heroic Pack, Skyborne Epic Pack or limited-time Warcraft Forever Collection, and the benefit belongs to the particular WoW account for which it was purchased. Eligible pre-purchases include the Skyborne Heroic Pack, Skyborne Epic Pack and limited-time Warcraft Forever Collection. Names go to whoever claims them first, so a purchase does not guarantee your preferred choice.
To prepare the client and reserve your characters:
- Bring your graphics drivers up to date.
- Install the Battle.net desktop app if needed, then open it and finish any app updates.
- Select World of Warcraft and choose World of Warcraft: Forever in the Game Version menu above Play.
- Install that version, then press Play and choose your ruleset.
- Create your characters with the names you want to reserve.
Where to check maintenance and outages
For WoW Forever server status, check service notices before treating a successful login-server check as permission to enter the world: Blizzard's login endpoints serve multiple games.
| Channel | What to look for |
| @BlizzardCS on X | Americas outages and maintenance notices. |
| @BlizzardCSEU_EN on X | European outages and maintenance notices. |
| Official WoW forums | Beta downtime threads and known-issue updates. |
| Blizzard's Weekly Maintenance Schedule | Planned downtime, with Americas and Europe shown separately. |
Match the notice to your region and the time of your attempt. Follow the newest relevant update before deciding to retry.
A server answering a connection check does not prove that it can deliver your characters or admit you to the world. On the night of October 1, beta login servers responded even while testers could not retrieve their character lists. A remote status check can also miss trouble along your own connection, including your provider, wireless network or VPN.

Rulesets and character creation problems
The pre-launch ruleset lineup includes Normal, PvP, Roleplay and Roleplay PvP, with Hardcore coming after launch.
| Ruleset | What your choice means |
| Normal | Adventuring and monster combat, with player combat at your discretion. |
| PvP | Frequent exposure to attacks from the opposing faction. |
| Roleplay | Naming and conduct requirements built around inhabiting a fantasy character. |
| Roleplay PvP | Roleplay naming and conduct requirements combined with the danger of opposing-faction attacks. |
| Hardcore | A later option with lasting consequences for death. |
Choosing with your friends
Choose the same ruleset and faction as the people you intend to group with: parties, dungeons and raids require a shared ruleset, and Horde and Alliance cannot group together. Battlegrounds can include characters from different rulesets, while Hardcore will remain separate.
Changing your ruleset normally means starting another character there; after Hardcore becomes available, a dead Hardcore character will be able to transfer out, including to PvP. Collections and Legacy Points are shared account-wide across the other rulesets. Hardcore accomplishments can carry outward, but progress from outside Hardcore cannot be brought into it.
Faction limits and roleplay
On the PvP ruleset, creating a character commits your characters there to that faction; Normal, Roleplaying and the future Hardcore option allow characters from both sides. Faction-balance controls can temporarily restrict new character creation for one side on PvP rulesets. Check those restrictions when investigating WoW Forever character creation problems.
Roleplay's appeal includes a kinder community and less pressure to optimize every choice, in the expectations of many players choosing it. Treat that as a preference when choosing your home.
RP-PvP combines the community atmosphere of roleplay with open-world fighting in the hopes of players who wanted that option.
Crowding in the shared PvP world worried one player.
I don't think people are ready for how insane the one big, mega PvP server is going to be.

Respect other people's roleplay even if you do not participate: avoid mocking their scenes or interrupting events with spam.
Language preference
Set Preferred Online Language through Escape → Options → System → Languages and Social to help you encounter others with the same preference. The setting affects every character on the account and has a 24-hour cooldown between changes.
Battle.net queues: what the beta demonstrated
During the September beta opening, queues grew into the tens of thousands, and reaching the front sometimes led to a disconnect and another wait. Testers who reached the world also encountered lag and further disconnects.
Treat those experiences as test history when planning your launch session.
The October 27 name-reservation opening also experienced queues, disconnects and character-creation timeouts. An EU fix was followed by advice to log out and back in, and by 5:29 p.m. ET that day the reservation system appeared to be operating fully. Do not treat the earlier delay as a continuing outage.
Login errors and when to retry
Start with any matching maintenance or incident notice; when one applies, wait for it to finish before working through connection fixes.
Retrieving character list
A login that stalls on “Retrieving character list” usually indicates that maintenance is still underway. Check the service notices, then retry after maintenance ends. A responding login endpoint alone cannot rule out this failure.
BLZ51901016
BLZ51901016 can accompany a disconnect or a stalled realm-list retrieval and is associated with connection problems or a computer that does not meet the system requirements. After any reported service interruption has ended, work through these checks:
- Verify that your computer meets the game's requirements.
- Update your operating system and drivers.
- Reset the game's user interface.
- Restart your modem and router.
- Improve your wireless connection if you use Wi-Fi, and close other applications.
Continuing connection trouble
If the service notices do not explain your problem, further checks include DNS, firewall settings and proxies, alongside router and driver troubleshooting. Blizzard's technical support forums provide another place to seek help.
Keep the exact error and the point where login stops handy when asking for assistance.
Beta closure and the stress-test client
The beta had finished before the current pre-launch reservation window. Repeatedly retrying beta access will not reopen it.
The October 21 stress test used a separate Stress Test entry in Battle.net's Game Version selector, with the cited regional session beginning at 2:00 p.m. PDT. The WoW Forever Server Slam: How to Pre-Download walkthrough concerns that test setup.
