Updated November 7, 2026 for the WoW Forever launch.

WoW Forever PvP ranks advance through Rank Points, while Honor pays for gear; the 14-rank track ends at Grand Marshal for Alliance or High Warlord for Horde and has a weekly progression limit. The launch-week restriction is purchasing: the Known Issues status updated November 5 listed PvP vendors in Stormwind, Orgrimmar and Dalaran as temporarily unavailable.

How to earn Honor and Rank Points

Honor comes from killing opposing players, finishing battlegrounds and completing relevant PvP quests; Rank Points come from activities including battlegrounds and PvP quests. The highlighted battleground during a holiday week provides extra Honor and a Rank Point boost.

ProgressionWhat it does
HonorPays for PvP equipment and other vendor rewards.
Rank PointsAdvances your rank and opens access to rank-gated purchases.

Blizzard adjusted Honor rewards across battlegrounds to reduce the incentive to farm Alterac Valley exclusively. An October 15 developer discussion described a small reduction for Alterac Valley and much larger gains for Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin and Darkspear Islands.

We'd start with the holiday battleground when your goal is progression, because its bonus helps both tracks. The WoW Forever Honor Boost takes Honor farming off your hands.

Weekly rank limits and your progress panel

Your rank ceiling rises week by week, preventing you from completing the entire climb immediately. WoW Forever PvP ranks therefore reward returning over multiple weeks rather than trying to finish the track in one session.

Open the Character Pane with C, then choose Player vs. Player on its right side to see your rank, accumulated Rank Points and rewards available at that rank. The panel also identifies the reward purchase location and previews the next unlock.

Rank Points do not decay during the season. One creator considered the revised system an improvement but worried that the climb might be too easy. Permanent titles or additional prestige rewards after a reset appeal to some players who want their previous climb to remain visible.

Rewards at every PvP rank

A rank unlocks the ability to buy its rewards; you still need to pay for the items. The titles below pair Alliance first with Horde second.

Rank and faction titlesPurchase unlocked
1 — Private / ScoutFaction tabard.
2 — Corporal / GruntPvP insignia trinket.
3 — Sergeant / SergeantFaction cloak.
4 — Master Sergeant / Senior SergeantFaction necklace.
5 — Sergeant Major / First SergeantCombat Healing Potion and Combat Mana Potion.
6 — Knight / Stone GuardKnight's Colors or Stone Guard's Herald tabard.
7 — Knight-Lieutenant / Blood GuardFaction Battle Standard.
8 — Knight-Captain / LegionnaireEpic wrist and belt upgrade seals.
9 — Knight-Champion / CenturionEpic feet upgrade seal.
10 — Lieutenant Commander / ChampionEpic hands upgrade seal.
11 — Commander / Lieutenant GeneralBlack War mounts.
12 — Marshal / GeneralEpic shoulder and leg upgrade seals.
13 — Field Marshal / WarlordEpic head and chest upgrade seals.
14 — Grand Marshal / High WarlordEpic weapons.

Battle Standards increase nearby allies' maximum health by 15% and have a 10-minute cooldown. One creator singled out the PvP trinket as worth attention even for players focused on PvE.

Buying gear and upgrading it to epic

Blue pieces and Emboldened Seals

Rare PvP armor can be bought and used without a PvP rank requirement, with level 55 required to wear the pieces. These purchases use Honor and battleground-specific Marks of Honor.

To make an epic armor piece, obtain the blue piece for that slot and the corresponding Emboldened Seal; buying the seal requires its designated rank. New and revised equipment fills specialization gaps, including separate Shaman sets for healing, melee and casting.

We'd prioritize blue wrists, belt, boots and gloves for a player building toward epic armor, because their upgrades unlock before those for the remaining armor slots. The WoW Forever BiS PvP Gear Boost handles the gear farming for you.

Seasonal equipment with unchanged stats but different set bonuses is a direction many players favor, hoping to preserve older gear's usefulness while giving another climb a purpose.

Honor cap and spending order

Honor has a holding limit, and the November 2 changes removed the Honor-gained display for kills made while already at that limit. Buying useful pieces as you progress leaves room for further earnings instead of treating the entire set as one final purchase.

Your early armor purchases remain ingredients for later epic upgrades. Saving all your Honor until the highest ranks therefore delays equipment you need for that upgrade path.

Where to spend Honor

The usual faction shops are the Champions' Hall in Stormwind's Old Town and the Hall of Legends in Orgrimmar; Alliance vendors also exist in the Dalaran Sewers. The November 5 Known Issues entry covered unavailable PvP vendors in all three cities, while Honor and Rank Point earning remained possible.

Darkspear Islands reputation purchases use the faction bases in the Barrens, with their locations and rewards covered below.

Battleground queues and level brackets

You can queue through a city's Battlemaster or a portal at a battleground's outdoor entrance. Premade groups are matched with other premades, while solo players and small groups are intended to face each other.

BattlegroundLevel brackets
Warsong Gulch10–19, 20–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, 60.
Arathi Basin20–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, 60.
Darkspear Islands30–39, 40–49, 50–59, 60.
Alterac Valley51–60.

Warsong Gulch has 10 players per side, Arathi Basin and Darkspear Islands have 15, and Alterac Valley has 40. Winning awards three Marks of Honor and bonus Honor; losing awards one mark. Marks can fund certain equipment purchases or be exchanged for experience and reputation, and they stack to 30 after the October 15 change.

Darkspear Islands objectives and reputation

Darkspear Islands is off Dustwallow Marsh and pits the Horde's Darkspear Raiders against the Alliance's Theramore Expeditionary Force. Its combination of capture points and a central flag is available from level 30 through 60.

Capture bases before running the flag

  1. Secure one of the four capture points to begin earning points over time.
  2. Take additional points to increase your team's scoring rate.
  3. Carry the central flag to a base your team controls for an extra score.
  4. Reach 2,000 points before the opposing team to win.

A flag run needs a friendly base to finish, so securing somewhere to deliver it comes first.

The November 2 changes stopped a player dropping the flag from receiving the Recently Dropped Flag debuff. The November 5 hotfixes prevented Plainsrunning from stacking and made carrying a battleground flag cancel its stacks.

Barrens entrances and vendors

The Horde entrance is at the Merchant Coast base; Alliance uses Northwatch, with a portal, battleground quests and reputation vendors at each base. You can also queue through a Battlemaster in a capital or the Barrens.

FactionReputation vendor
AllianceBryanna Embreeze at Northwatch Hold, 63.4, 58.6.

Build the appropriate faction reputation through its battleground activities and Mark turn-in quests to access equipment and consumables.

HonoredExpeditionary's Cape or Darkspear Raider's Cloak, plus rings and a necklace.
ReveredInsurgent's Manifesto or Tome of the Darkspear Prophecy off-hands, plus one-handed weapons and a two-handed weapon.
ExaltedGloves in cloth, leather, mail and plate; shoulder options for different armor types; a short questline for the faction's exclusive tabard.

Weekly tasks and PvP Legacy Points

Each season includes weekly journey tasks that grant Honor and Rank Points, with three tasks also awarding a Legacy Point apiece. Those Legacy-linked tasks remain completable in later seasons.

PvP Legacy objectivePoints available
Reach ranks 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14Five, one for each milestone.
Reach Exalted with the four battleground reputationsFour, one per reputation.
Complete Field of Honor journey quests for weeks 4, 7 and 10Three, one per quest.

The PvP category contributes 12 Legacy Points, and a character can spend up to 16 points at launch. The Legacy Challenges and Points guide covers the broader account progression system.

For Great Honor increases Honor earnings; High Alert improves stealth detection outside battlegrounds, and Field Medicine's shorter Recently Bandaged effect excludes battlegrounds, dungeons and raids. PvP Legacy Challenges cannot be completed in Hardcore.

Older seasonal rewards staying obtainable through continued play or a vendor matters to players concerned about permanently missing them.

World PvP, rulesets and playing with friends

WoW Forever uses rulesets in place of the traditional realm-selection list, with ordinary groups, dungeons and raids restricted to characters sharing a ruleset and faction. Battlegrounds can draw characters from different rulesets, with Hardcore kept separate.

RulesetWhat it means for PvP
NormalOpen-world PvP is optional.
PvPOpposing players can threaten you through most of the world.
RoleplayUses roleplay naming and behavior requirements; friendly and contested territory do not automatically flag you.
Roleplay PvPCombines roleplay requirements with the open-world risk of PvP.
HardcoreArrives after launch and maintains a separate ecosystem.

We'd choose Normal for friends who mainly want battlegrounds together without routine open-world attacks: it allows discretionary world PvP while battleground queues can still mix rulesets.

Faction choice and moving between rulesets

On the PvP ruleset, creating a character locks your characters there to that faction; Normal, Roleplaying and Hardcore allow characters of both factions. Faction-balancing systems may temporarily limit new character creation for one side.

Moving to another ruleset ordinarily means creating a new character there. When Hardcore becomes available, a character who dies there can transfer to another ruleset, including PvP.

Hardcore has its own one-way rule for Collections and Legacy Points, which are otherwise shared across all rulesets: whatever you earn in Hardcore may be unlocked in other modes, yet nothing gained in those other modes transfers into Hardcore.

Flagging and guards

On the PvP ruleset, entering contested or enemy territory automatically flags you; friendly territory leaves you unflagged unless you opt in, attack an enemy player or assist a flagged ally. On Normal and Roleplaying, friendly and contested territory leave you unflagged under those same conditions, while entering enemy territory flags you automatically.

Use /pvp to toggle participation; toggling it off starts a five-minute countdown, and removing a flag otherwise requires five minutes in friendly territory. Enemy-faction guards attack flagged characters who approach them, while neutral guards intervene when you fight nearby.

What players report

Time investment outweighing skill is a concern raised by five players on the official WoW: Forever forums, who want a competitive rating system. Seasonal repetition worries another group of five forum participants, with one writing:

Really would like them to confirm how gear transitions between seasons.

— one player

Seasonal rank resets requiring another climb are reported by three players on the official forums. Premades avoiding pickup groups is something two forum participants report working in their queues.
